Thank you notes 22nd January

I’m thankful for the roasted sweet potato I had for lunch. I’m thankful for the caramelised edges and that the skin gets crunchy when its roasted for long enough. I’m thankful for the Horse Girl trailer. I’m thankful that my nails are growing.

I’m thankful that my friends husband and I somehow have the exact same car in the same colour. I’m thankful for a quiet house.

Thank you notes 20th January

I’m thankful that my first appointment with a new therapist was today. I’m thankful that I found the place easily and was surprised to find that it was a straight up house, so I was confused and thought for a moment that I had the wrong address. I’m thankful that I didn’t. I’m thankful for the whiteboard in the room that she used to draw a diagram that I think I’ll find useful. I’m thankful for green tea buns filled with red bean paste.

Thank you notes 19th January

I’m thankful that I went to the lunar new year festival today. I’m thankful that I wasn’t there for long but still managed to find and eat a big crispy banana fritter, go on the Ferris wheel and watch the dragon dance down the street. I’m thankful that I woke up feeling terrible but it’s stabled out, now. I’m thankful for rain. I’m thankful that The Power of Now still seems very condescending to me but that I’m trying to power through it.

Thank you notes 18th January

I’m thankful for April and the Extraordinary World which I watched today, a movie I never would have watched if it wasn’t recommended by a friend. I’m thankful for Darwin the cat and the ridiculous/great robot suits the komodo dragons wore. I’m thankful for the twists at the end and the background art. I’m thankful for the short nap I took during it because I was extremely comfortable, not because I thought it was boring. I’m thankful it had a happy ending.

I’m thankful that tomorrow I’m seeing my friend that I haven’t seen in ages, who I had honestly nearly given up on ever seeing again (I’m thankful that I won’t give up now). I’m thankful for red bean buns.

I’m thankful for kettle chips. I’m thankful for the rare times I watch Hilda in Arabic, because the English voice acting doesn’t cut it for me and just changing the voices makes it watchable. I’m thankful for the medicated creams I got, which have helped tremendously.

I’m thankful for the ankle length black dress I own that has a slit up each side. I’m thankful for nail strengthener. I’m thankful for thunder.

I’m thankful to hope that the prescribed cream I paid an insane amount of money for helps. I’m thankful for the unexpected rain this afternoon and that it happened as soon as I got inside.

I’m thankful to have paid my car registration and that I don’t have to think about it for another year.

Thank you notes 4th January

I’m thankful for the powdered hot chocolate I just had and the creaminess of the milk the hotel puts in the mini fridges in their rooms. I’m thankful that even if it doesn’t do anything it feels like making a paste with the cold milk and the hot chocolate before pouring boiling water over the top makes it taste better.

I’m thankful for the hot jam doughnuts I had for breakfast from the truck at the market. I’m thankful for the bready fluffy inside and the crispy outside, the crystals of sugar and the hot dollop jam you eventually always reach. I’m thankful that lots of other people were also having food truck doughnuts for breakfast.

I’m thankful that when I realised I’d forgotten to pack my toothbrush I went downstairs to see if they had travel brushes behind the counter which they did and was a relief. I’m thankful for the man working the desk who was bright and nice; a thing I can appreciate can be tiring to put on while working customer facing positions as someone who’s worked in a similar role before.

I’m thankful that R came to spend the night and I waited for him at the cafe downstairs. I’m thankful that when he sat down next to me to say hello I at first didn’t recognise him because he’d shaved off his wild mop of curls, which we both found funny. (I’m thankful we both found it funny)

I’m thankful that we watched a little of Song of the Sea before I dozed off. I’m thankful to hope to watch the whole thing at some point because what I saw of it was beautiful. I’m thankful that while I was asleep R went out and bought me both Dishonoured 2 as a belated Christmas gift and, he told me, dinner for a homeless man.

I’m thankful for long hugs. I’m thankful for big fluffy hotel beds.

Thank you notes 3rd January

I’m thankful for the spicy veggie ramen I had for dinner, the pleasantly chewy noodles. I’m thankful for the little cup of yogurt (!) they gave me with the ramen which I’d never heard of and didn’t realise was a thing but was a nice thing to have after the the heat of the soup.

I’m thankful for the hotel room I’m spending the weekend in. I’m thankful to hope to wake up with enough time tomorrow to wash my hair and go for a walk when it’s still quiet.

I’m thankful for the sudden storm that broke the heat in the evening, the relieving sound of rain. I’m thankful for the way my young niece laughs.

I’m thankful for the talk about abortion I had with my GP today (I don’t need one, I’m just curious). I’m thankful for how chatty she was while she printed out my thing and how I didn’t have to wait long at all. I’m thankful for the coriander pesto pasta I made yesterday, that it tastes better when microwaves possibly because microwaving it takes a bit of punch out of the large amount of garlic I put it in. I’m thankful that it’s vegan, because I’m always trying to improve my vegan cooking repertoire. I’m thankful that it didn’t rain when I hung my bedding outside.

I’m thankful for raw mangoes with the texture of apples. I’m thankful for hot sev. I’m thankful for how a kid in the class I was with today was sweet and helpful. I’m thankful for brain breaks.

Thank you notes 10th December

I’m thankful for the weather today, not as suffocating as yesterday. I’m thankful for the paper lantern making activity the class did near the end of the day, which is incredibly simple but becomes fraught with depth and difficulty when attempted by a 7 year old. I’m thankful for how young children are fascinated by mundane things, like the texture of my wool dress and the fact that 7+7 is 14, but 8+8 is 16 even though 8 is only one more than 7. I’m thankful for roasted asparagus. I’m thankful for cashew cream.
