because LIFE is uncomfortable. Death and suicide and sex and pain are straight up going to happen. not having words for the way it discomforts you doesn't make it more comfortable, it just makes you less able to reach out about it.

even more vital, you gotta be able to say words like "rape", "abuse", "queer" or "racist". cause we fought fucking hard to name those experiences. to identify "rape" as distinct from "sex" and "racism" as distinct from "acceptable behaviour" and "queer" as distinct from "invert"

like the function of communication is not to minimise immediate discomfort. we gotta be able to talk about stuff that's hard or sucks or causes difficult conversations.

Ok I was just going to leave this as a reply but apparently I have more thoughts than the character limit will allow

I think we also need to keep in mind that many survivors of SA don't necessarily realise/accept what exactly happened to them. It's a lot easier to say you were "seduced" because you feel like you could have done more to prevent your assault, and that it was slightly your fault that it happened. You might have felt like you somehow retroactively consented because it felt good in the moment. There's an unfortunate stigma around being groomed and raped, especially if you're male.

I'm probably getting repetitive, but some people will feel like it's easier to say they were "seduced" and "had an affair" rather than "groomed" and "raped".

Listen I get why people don't like the way Otacon talked about getting groomed by his stepmom but IMO it makes sense for him to describe it like that. Yeah, a man in the 2000's who has presumably never been to therapy or even counseling is not going to talk about getting sexually assaulted by his step-parent in the same way someone from 2024 who has researched trauma would, he is going to use ""bad"" language sorry.
