I've probably said this before but the fact that Drinian is just fed up with Edmunds (a semi mythical man of legend) fear of sea serpents (mythical beings) instead if being incredibly worried about it is hilarious to me, because personally if a literal living legend popped up and told me he was afraid of another legend I would probably be inclined to think that that legend was also real

okay so like Lucy is automatically everyone's favorite little sibling but Lucy and Edmund are best friends and Susan is Edmunds favorite older sibling and Edmund is Susan's favorite younger sibling and Edmund is Peters Right Hand Man and his greatest annoyance and his sworn brother and Susan is Peters closest advisor and Peter needs to be Lucy's favorite older brother sooo bad which he is because best friend and older brother are seperate relationships to her and Susan and Lucy don't get each other at all and would die for each other and always wish they were closer and Caspian is also there. all the pevensies will tell you Caspian is like a sibling to them but what they won't say is they DO think of Caspian as their baby brother

Chapters: 10/10 Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, Chronicles of Narnia - All Media Types Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Edmund Pevensie & Lucy Pevensie & Peter Pevensie & Susan Pevensie, Peter Pevensie & Susan Pevensie, Edmund Pevensie & Susan Pevensie, Lucy Pevensie & Susan Pevensie Characters: Susan Pevensie, Peter Pevensie, Edmund Pevensie, Lucy Pevensie, Aslan (Narnia) Additional Tags: The Problem of Susan, Book: The Last Battle (Narnia), Post-Book: The Last Battle (Narnia) Summary:
Surely everyone knows the tale by now: Susan Pevensie used to be a queen, until one day she forgot. Oh, she swore she wouldn’t, but she did. Susan knows who she is: the second eldest of the Pevensie children; a younger sister and an older one; “the beauty” of the family. She knows this. But what of the Gentle Queen? Is she lost forever? Or is what Aslan once said still true? “Once a King or Queen, ALWAYS a King or Queen.”
Standing at 10 chapters, this is the condensed version of what I believe her story should be. Someday, I may expand on this, and make it a full novel. For now, it is more general than that. This is a story of faith, and loss, and grief, and joy, and I sincerely hope you enjoy it. It is, quite possibly, the most important thing I’ll ever write. <3

okay honestly i know a lot of people hate the night raid addition to the prince caspian movie and think it's super ooc for many characters, and/or that peter is being really reckless and stupid, but like. the more you think about it, the more sense it makes?
like i'm NOT saying mistakes weren't made (they were) and i'm not saying it was a foolproof plan (it wasn't; it was very risky and peter could and SHOULD have called it off when things started to go wrong) but i mean, think about it. if caspian had stuck the plan (which would have been much smarter than trying to break someone out of prison right away, like you're planning to take the castle anyway, do that and THEN break him out, and he won't be caught in the crossfire??) and/or if cornelius hadn't dropped the "miraz killed your father" bomb on caspian at the WORST possible time (thanks cornelius) they would have maintained the element of surprise, gotten the troops in position and gotten the gate open much quicker, and no one would have been prepared for the attack. i'm not saying they 100% could have won, but it was a very sound plan, and seeing as they went up against the witch in a fairly hopeless battle numbers-wise in the first movie it seems dumb to say it's like ooc or bad planning or whatever. it's a solid plan. it wasn't doomed; things just went wrong.
on top of that he and edmund are right that trying to dig in at the how might work in the short term, but it would never last. (the whole point after all is striking a balance between him and caspian, caution and recklessness, new and old.) and it's shitty that he's just dismissing lucy, but as much as i love lucy, it's not like she's offering any helpful suggestions past "trust aslan" at this point. because, like—this has happened before. this is not peter being like oh well aslan abandoned us and i don't want to rely on him. this is peter taking his experiences from the past, wherein aslan has left them to do battle before, and trusted them to handle it, where aslan was consistently absent from narnia, where they were good and wise kings and queens who could and DID handle this type of situation, and doing his best based on what he knows. yeah, his desire to prove himself due to everyone in england and in narnia belittling, dismissing, and doubting him due to his appearance is playing a part. it's pushing him to be more reckless than usual, more desperate to show he's still capable. but that's not to say he ISN'T capable, or that he never was. last time, they didn't wait on aslan. they went to war, and aslan appeared when they needed him. if he didn't, then they could do this on their own. it's not unreasonable of peter to assume it's up to them in the greater context of the movie.
idk man like i just think he gets knocked a lot for...being a complex character who makes mistakes?? for operating on the only knowledge and experience he has at his disposal? for not having lucy's level of faith, which absolutely no other character ever is shown to possess anyway??? like yeah he's being a bit of a bitch about it but i love him, bitchiness and all, and if i got back from spending the shittiest year of my life being stuck as a seventeen year old in the middle of a war i can't even fight after spending fifteen years as a capable, respected king, only to get back home to discover everything i love is in ruins and everyone i know is dead and my country has been invaded, destroyed, and colonized to the extent where i no longer recognize it, but even the people who are asking me to save it don't believe i can—i mean. i'd be a bitch about it too. you know.
tl;dr the night raid wasn't even that bad a plan cornelius just has awful timing and caspian tho i love him has no experience and his own issues to deal with. just like peter. u know.

i have this vague headcanon that peter as high king, grown into an adult, looks an awful lot like their father did before the war. they don’t remember that, not in any detail save for a few moments where they feel like they’re looking at a dream-like memory.
but then they’re back in england and their father returns from the front and it’s strange, to look at a slightly distorted mirror image of the peter they had grown to know in narnia. there’s plenty of frozen silences when the wrong name slips from an absent-minded mouth, tension they can’t quite figure out how to explain to their parents.
there’s been plenty of bits about mrs and mr pevensie looking at their children a little like ghosts, or in similar ways. but the concept of it being the other way around, of susan, edmund and lucy glancing up and freezing because for a second they’re back in cair paravel enjoying some time together near a fireplace, only to blink and realise that they’ve been staring at the father they had forgotten they even had.
not to mention how weird this must be for peter, as well. not only not seeing the version he remembers of himself in his own reflection, but seeing it sit at the kitchen table reading the newspaper instead, removed from him entirely.

To the glistening eastern sea, I give you Queen Lucy the Valiant. To the great western wood, King Edmund the Just. To the radiant southern sun, Queen Susan the Gentle. And to the clear northern sky, I give you King Peter the Magnificent.

okay anyway i'm always posting minor details zero people care about in the narnia movies but in honor of prince caspian (2008)'s 17th birthday i am here to subject you all to More Things i have noticed and adore about this particular film, because i have gone mad with power.
literally i've never seen anyone talk about this but the filmmakers were SO funny for deciding caspian should leave his room through a secret passage in the back of his wardrobe. of ALL things. that's hilarious and i love it.
literally the shot for shot parallel of him looking out the cracked door + lucy and peter doing that in the first movie. give whoever did that an oscar. i don't care if that's not something they give oscars for. they should.
all the telmarine weaponry and heraldry features nautical imagery (compasses mostly) and sea eagles, which everyone tends to notice on the crossbows and whatnot, but also it's all over the place in really minor details, like the feathers carved into caspian's wardrobe
the pevensies all standing where their individual thrones were on the dais and their chests being arranged in the same way in the treasure house
the doorknob on the door to the treasure room has aslan's face on it
this is kind of an obvious one but it just makes me so happy for continuity's sake: you can see the pevensies' clothes they put on for the rest of the movie in their chests in the treasure house before they change into them—edmund's boots, peter's satchel and tunic, and susan's dress, namely. i love you thoughtful set dressing i love you attention to detail i love you preserved continuity
susan's dress having the daffodil motif on the bodice to match her crown and christmas gifts
peter's tunic literally has a sword stamped over his heart and i know, i KNOW i am reading way too into this but it has shields on the shoulders too and i think so often of that. peter the guy who carries the weight of protection. you know.
lucy's satchel strap having the same embossed pattern as her belt from father christmas
edmund's shield strap having the ivy pattern from his armor
reepicheep's sword with the barley and mouse motifs...the tiny mouse on the pommel....GAH
a reprised version of "the wardrobe" from when lucy first discovered narnia in the og film playing during her dream of seeing aslan
sometimes i wonder if peter didn't put edmund all the way up on a tower in the raid where he was supposed to stay and be out of the action because of edmund's tendency in the last movie and in this one to throw himself headlong into danger to help peter (as with the witch) which then backfired spectacularly given edmund literally hurled himself down a roof to kick a guy for trying to shoot his brother and nearly became a pincushion himself. but i sure think about this. choices that haunt me.
the detail of the magic circle when the witch is summoned and how it enchants you and the breath of the person inside it clouds like it's winter. shut UP.
oh yeah and did you know susan's leather breastplace/bodice piece she wears during the raid and the battle ALSO has daffodils stamped onto it + metal ones attached? now you do. (they're on her arm guard as well, you're welcome.)
peter's rallying cry for the raid being "for narnia" -> his rallying cry in the final battle being "for aslan". yes i'm still talking about this.
and while we're at it, the final battle soundtrack shifting from being the same score from "prince caspian flees" at the beginning of the movie to a reprise of the classic narnian theme. the fusion of caspian's music and narnia's. the shift from flight to fight. harry gregson-williams when i catch you.
i am not the first person to point this out but lucy's necklace in the farewell scene (which was given to her actress as a gift afterwards by the costume designer) actually looks vaguely reminiscent of a faun's horns, which may be a subtle nod to her friendship with mr. tumnus from before
anyway happy birthday gay people (caspeter) and incredibly minor details no one but me cares about. this movie ruined my life and i hope it continues to do so for many a year.
