I see a few people have a slight misunderstanding what the Ban Conversion Therapy campaign is about. It is NOT an initiative calling for a ban on gender-affirming surgery (I would never!!!)

Conversion ‘therapy’ is a horrible practice where you are forced to ‘get rid of the gay’ inside of you. It involves exorcisms, electroshock therapy, being forced to kneel in front of a statue of Jesus and ask for forgiveness and other horrible torturing practices that often lead to lifelong mental scars!

One of my many fav things in the aubrey-maturin series is when the point of view switches from the main two guys to some side characters... Who then usually perceive Aubrey as Really Big, Really Loud, and Not Very Sharp.....And Maturin as sick looking creepy little freak of a creature... Keeps us in check... What if we started thinking they are actually cool.

Its also great way to remind us that alot of the things they do arent particularly normal by even that time period standards....

Tired of stories where the author worldbuilds a whole religion only to chicken out at the last moment by making the main character a skeptic. You mean to tell me that there’s all this richness in lore and culture, but you’ve trapped me with the one person in this society who doesn’t care about it? So bland. I could meet an agnostic easily enough by walking down the street, but your story is my one chance to hear the perspective of someone who follows whatever religion you’ve contrived. You made this whole world; convince me that your character really is from there.
