Love you! It's the "I love you" we use every time we finish up a call with our mom, every time we want to offer our friends a bit of encouragement, the welcome home kiss on the cheek we give our lover every day. It's sending them pictures you know they'll laugh at, buying them strange little nothings that you know they'll like. It's having their bagel order memorized and setting their birthday as your password. Somehow, their name weaves its way into almost every funny story you share with others.

It's brief, casual, it's a habit. We aren't even aware we do it. It says that love is cradled lightly in your heart, generously given, spilling out into the world unbeknownst to you, making up the web of delicate threads that hold us all together.

if I can get sentimental for a moment, it's just really been such a pleasure to have @jocundcompany's OC be such a major part of leon's story. daniella is a phenomenal character, someone both leon and I have loved learning more about and seeing grow, and I truly do mean it when I say I have no idea where my leon would be, story-wise, without her influence

He wanted to talk. He wanted to know.

Did Rose ever even care about his strength? Was anything he achieved impressive, or was he just a convenient tool to be manipulated and used?

Has the Chairman considered the consequences of having him, the great, unbeatable, human Leon, go up against Eternatus? If he had died, would it have been just another necessary sacrifice on the path to solving Galar’s energy crisis?

How can he sleep at night, knowing all he’s done to hurt Leon? To hurt all of Galar?

How time flies, indeed. It felt as though no time as passed at all, while somehow also feeling as though their last meeting had happened several lifetimes ago, an eternity stretching out between then and now. Some small, ugly part of him was tempted to seize this chance to reopen all of his old wounds, letting the pent-up rage and frustration and hurt spill out of him until it stained the very ground they ststood and on.

What was stopping him? No one would have blamed him, surely. No one that mattered, anyway.

The seconds ticked by as Leon deliberated, warring with himself before slowly, deliberately stepping closer. Still at a professional distance, but... Closer. He didn't try to force eye contact, but nor did he shy away from it.

❝ I got lost. I'm meant to be somewhere in Hulbury right about now. ❞

Oh well. In for a penny, in for a pound. His plans for Hulbury were shot anyway, his schedule very much thrown off-kilter by his impromptu detour all the way down here, and besides... He was tired of picking at old scars. Time has healed all it was going to, and the rest had to come down to him. It's not even about being the bigger person: Rather selfishly, Leon wanted to move on, to truly close out this chapter of his life, and he couldn't do that by spending the rest of his life evading someone who was, for better or for worse, such a huge part of it.

This chance meeting could very well be the conversational opportunity he'd—consciously or not—been wanting, and he couldn't afford to squander it! Not when it was so unlikely their paths would coincidentally cross again anytime soon.

The smile he plasters on was as practiced and picture-perfect as the ones from his Champion days, and yet, a sliver of genuine interest flickered beneath it's polished surface. (He'd always enjoyed the topic of Pokémon.)
