cyranoism.
cyrano smiled softly, shaking his head. âi justâŠcanât imagine this conversation is ever fun for you to have. youâve probably had it a thousand times by now.â he imagined that at some point, it was more a reflex than anything else. âsoâyou knowâiâm sorry about that.â knowing there was not much else to say about it, he moved on, eyes growing wide at the red-headâs statement. âi canât be the only one who wants you to be prom queenâŠâ she smiled, âbut even if I was, Iâd rig the election for you. Iâll vote a hundred times.â as a template? cyrano blinked. âare you saying I lookâŠprincely?â thatâd be a first. âuhâyouâuhââ he flushed. âyou look lovely as well. youâd put cinderella to shame. uhâis cinderella the beautiful one? i donât think iâve ever really watched any of those disney movies.â
âplease, itâs alright.â although he was right -- she had certainly had this conversation several times before, and though she didnât mind so much ( because at least he was polite ), it would be nice to not have to have it. laughing at the idea of their figurative prom, anja shook her head. she wouldnât have been such a thing anyway, considering how nervous and anxious she was in high school. sheâd had about two friends, neither of them particularly cool. but he didnât need to know that. âthatâs sweet, thank you.â she told him. as he began to compliment her, the redhead felt colour heat her cheeks. âi mean, i wasnât-- wasnât looking for a compliment in return, i just-- i-- th-thank you.â

tutors can be such a dreadful thing ... -- xoxo red queen
anja didnât really get a lot of texts, and as a result, she certainly hadnât been expecting a message. though she always had her phone on her for accessibility purposes, she didnât often use it -- so to get messages from unknown numbers?
well, excuse the pun, but that was unheard of.
the words stood out on the screen, glaring at her. shouting. laughing. TUTORS CAN BE SUCH A DREADFUL THING. was it him? was it him coming back to humiliate her? did he want more things? it couldnât be anybody else, because nobody else could possibly know. right? sheâd kept it so quiet that if anybody did know, theyâd have to know through him.
deleting the message with nervous fingers, the princess scrambled to find any reason somebody might know, and when she came up with nothing, all the redhead could do was hope to god it would never come up again.

âare you sure you will be? itâs okay Anja. itâs fine if you are not someone who loves chatting up to strangers. and forcing yourself to do just that is very unhealthy. if itâs our father youâre worried about, i will convince him. i will, i promise. just say the word.â how exactly he would do that, he conveniently failed to explain, mostly because he had zero ideas but he was sure he could wing it.Â
âitâs not hiding if being out is detrimental to your mental and emotional peace.â he stated. he sighed, he knew Anja wouldnât want to go back even if she didnât like being at buckingham. she wasnât dubbed the âdarling of denmarkâ for nothing. âfine, if you want to stay i wonât push you to go. but i want you to promise me that if things ACTUALLY get a little too much, you will come to me and tell me, let me find a solution after that. do you promise?â
doing what was right and what was expected of her was, truly, all the redhead knew how to do. it was what she was good at -- call her a goody-two-shoes, but anja only knew how to do the right thing. there just simply wasnât another option. and perhaps that made her boring or innocent, but she didnât mind so much, because it paid off in the end... most of the time, anyway. but she didnât like to take about that.
âi promise,â she wasnât a good liar, and she did mean it -- she would tell her brother if something was wrong. there wasnât anybody else anja trusted to help fix her problems. even as much as she loved daniella, she didnât like to burden the younger of the three. heck, she didnât even like to bother felix. âi just thought maybe this is something i can use to better myself. i donât think iâll ever be the most social person, but... i can try. you know?â

âAnja from Denmark. Got it,â He said, making a note of it in his head. Having grown up in the palace, the routes were essentially second nature to Oliver, though he understood how anyone else could get easily lost, especially when so many of the hallways looked similar, or how a left instead of a right could lead you somewhere completely different. âIf you ever do get lost again, you could also always find one of the staff. Iâm sure they know this place better than even me,â He informed. âOh, and Iâm Oliver, by the way. Suppose I forgot to mention that. Of England. But donât worry, sometimes I still get lost here if Iâm not paying attention to where Iâm going.â
anja didnât want to admit sheâd tried, but the softly spoken staff member had been useless to her -- as much as her father had wished it, hearing aids didnât make her hearing. nodding politely and offering a genuine little smile, the redhead replied, âi suppose asking for directions isnât too bad. i know itâs their job, but i do hate to bother them.â if anja was queen of one thing, it was self-sufficiency. ânice to meet you, oliver of england.â she grinned, before laughing a little. âwell, if you get lost, thereâs no hope for the rest of us.â

âNo, I mean is he emotional fitâof course I mean physically!â Cecelia threw up her hands as she teased her friend. The heat rising to Anjaâs cheeks let the brunette know she was on the right path, asking the right questions. She fancied herself some sort of investigative journalist in that moment, a journalist for attractive royalty. âDifficult to handle?â Cecelia titled her head, considering the words. âOh, wow, heâs that hot, huh? Well, arenât you lucky?â She let out a small laugh. âNow what exactly is difficult about it? He doesnât walk around shirtless now does he? Though, Cecelia tip number one: feel up those abs.â
âiâm just not good with attractive people,â really, it had even taken a moment for anja to be entirely comfortable with cecelia for that very reason. she was hopeless. additionally, she was completely sure that if she hadnât embarrassed herself already, she would any time soon. âyou know what iâm like -- donât bully me.â the redhead replied, cringing as she signed. âheâs just... very handsome. nice build, i-- donât make me talk about this.â she laughed, covering her face before peeking through her fingers. âwhat about your betrothed, huh?â

â i know ⊠and i thought some talent shouldnât go to waste. â   she said as a proud grin appeared on her face, eyes on her older sister.    â i pulled a bit of you and suggested if she would like to actually be a jewelry designer once she grows up ⊠she was absolutely thrilled. so i called some contacts and all, now sheâs secured a scholarship for later. â   daniella explained before giving a shrug of her shoulders.   â guess i could help someone for once. â
ââpulled a meâ?â anja repeated, before laughing. she supposed that was something she would try and do, had it been her. it was nice to know daniella was reaching out to help others. whilst it was certainly the older redheadâs forte, she loved that the littlest holstein was branching out into helping others too -- if anja were any less modest, she might think she was a good role model. âoh! thatâs so lovely! how good of you. i assume she was quite pleased with that?â

âI donât know three hundred different languages.â He said plainly, eyeing the red-head and missing her teasing completely. âI was trying toâI wasââ he picked at the end of his shirt, nervously trying to summon the words. âCould you teach her? I know sheâs picked up a few words but sheâd love it if you could teach her.â He knew it was asking for a lot, he already felt incredibly guilty wasting Anjaâs time by asking her to watch over Kit when he could not. âI think you might be the only one who thinks Iâm a good father,â he tried to laugh, the sound coming out more like a cough than anything else. âIâm an okay father. I could be better. Which is why I need to know your secrets,â at that, he did laugh.
chuckling, anja ignored the way he missed her joke, instead turning to watch the little girl play a little bit ahead of them. turning back to make sure sheâd heard him right, the redhead blinked. âyou want her to know danish sign language?â she asked. âi only know that and a little bit of asl.â although norwegian sign language belonged in the same linguistic family as danish sign language, she wasnât sure if that was specifically what her friend wanted. âiâd be more than happy to teach her, if thatâs what youâd both like.â the princess grinned, before looping her arm through his. âshe only likes me so much because i donât make her do things she doesnât like. youâre her dad. she loves you.â

infantacarlotaâ.
Carlota was genuinely thankful that Anja had understood what she had meant to say. She trusted herself to speak freely around the redhead ( they had known each other for long enough ) but these days she felt like she couldnât do a single thing right - although she kept it to herself, the truth is her confidence and morale were two steps bellow the gutter. But she shook her head just slightly, dismissing her own thoughts - this, right here, was no time nor place for such negativity ( which she hated so much and yet seemed to possess more of each day ). The sound of Anjaâs giggles prompted a grin to spread across her lips ( a genuine one, she wasnât just mimicking the other like she so often subconscious found herself lately ). âWell, youâll certainly be surrounded by people here.â She linked an arm with Anjaâs, her shoulders feeling a little lighter. âYou would think that for such a grand palace we wouldnât be bumping into each other all the time butâŠâ Her shoulders rose and fell in a quick motion. âAre all of your betrothals already arranged?ââ
she had missed carlota terribly, but it seemed that everything in the world was right again. having her best friend back seemed to make all this business a lot easier on her, and it gave her somebody outside of her family to spend time with. arms looped through her friendâs, the redhead gave a shy little nod -- that was the other thing. she didnât know how on earth that meeting with her betrothed was going to go when she was terrible with strangers. âheâs the prince of the philippines.â anja told her, eyebrows raising. âitâs... heâs very handsome from what i can tell in pictures, which means itâs going to be absolutely painful for me.â she groaned, before eyeing the spanish infanta. âtell me youâve got better news than my âiâm not going to be able to talk to my betrothedâ thing.â

    Anja of Denmark â€
The staff around here were nice to her but she isnât a fool, she knows it is just because they are paid to be nice to her. She knows that half of them would get tired of her the moment they are out of her eyesight and whisper in the halls about her for she was the girl that asks what a thousand times. She is already tired of having to ask them a thousand times over and over again to repeat themselves and to look at her when they speak and decided maybe talking was pointless. She heads to an open area and sits on the hard ground with her dog in her lap and the book in front of both of them. When a redhead decides to plant themselves on the ground, she doesnât even hesitate to wave. Her long blonde hair normally flowing for once settled into some messy updo that her sister had done the night before for her, exposing her ears, something she hated for the life of her but she wanted to keep the tiny bit of comfort it gave for as long as she can. Jane turns slowly to face the other. The book goes to her lap and she reaches out to shake hands with the other. âIâm Jane.â @daneanja
getting away from the palace was anjaâs number one goal for today. whilst she was starting to get better when socialising with individuals, dealing with people in large groups was well out of the redheadâs comfort zone. though she was getting better, the idea of socialising for too long was particularly exhausting. at least outdoors there were fewer people.
sitting outside near a blonde with a little dog, the danish princess smiled politely. âanja,â she said, shaking the otherâs hand when she extended it. âit just gets so busy in there. itâs lovely, but i canât believe how hectic a castle full of royals can get.â

â aw â you know you could always call me. â   smile vanishing for a moment, the danish princess tilted her head to the side, suddenly worried.   â something wasnât bothering you, was it ? â   mind immediately racing back to the palace, how she basically fled their fatherâs grasp. even though she knew the king had only business with her and her older siblings were mostly safe, she couldnât help but worry still.   â it was actually a gift. so i was on this island, spending time with the native people and got along with this little girl very well. i told her all about you and felix and she gave all three of us parting gifts â see, thatâs handmade. can you believe a seven years old could make such a pretty thing ? â
anja brushed off her sisterâs concern, waving her hand lightly. things always worried anja -- she was more anxiety than she was girl at this stage, but it wasnât something she wanted her family to worry about. instead, she focused on the bracelet, slipping it onto her wrist and smiling. âimagine being so talented,â she said, wondering vaguely where the girl had learned to make it, and hoped it was from some childish passion and not out of necessity. âthis is gorgeous. thank you! i love it.â

âi know.â he softly said. âbut i promise iâll call you all the time and come visit you and send you gifts from my travelsâŠand you know what? iâll just move in with you after you get married.â he joked. he couldnât talk about separating from his sister seriously, not yet anyways. it would hurt too much. âiâm sure your husband wouldnât mind you bringing along a little extra luggage.â
he knew instantly that the thought of interacting with someone new was giving his sister anxiety already. âno pressure, you know that. you have your entire life to get to know her.â coming to London, adjusting with the new environment, with so many strangersâŠhe should have known Anja would be struggling. âyou know that if all this becomes a little much at ANY point, i can fly you back to Copenhagen in a second right? iâll talk to Dad, i will manage him. i donât want you to stress yourself out too much.â he said, concern in every word.
it was bad that anja considered it for a moment. whilst she knew logically that her brother couldnât go with her -- felix had his own country to run, after all -- the idea of bringing him along to wherever she might end up living was a dream. socialising was not her strong suit, and moving to a country where she didnât speak the language and didnât really have the chance to learn it was frightening.
scoffing, the redhead turned to look at him. she didnât trust her father to let her come home, even if she wanted to. sighing a little, anja shook her head. there was no point in him trying. âthanks, felix.â she said softly. âiâll be okay. you donât have to worry about me.â the redhead insisted, hoping that he might take that on board, but knowing he likely wouldnât. she couldnât even blame him, anyway -- anja had no clue really on how to socialise, especially with other royals. âi canât keep hiding forever.â

âNot at all,â He assured her. Heâd been giving out directions and helpful tips to avoid getting lost in the palace lately more often than he had ever before. Then again, this had to be the longest time theyâd had so many guests residing at Buckingham for so long. âItâs just back this way,â He said, pointing down the hallway from which he had just come from. âOh, and I donât think I caught your name earlier, either.â
following him through the halls, anja tried her best to commit the route to memory. if she could remember where not to turn, she would remember which was the correct hallway to turn. hopefully. maybe. turning back to him and taking a moment to decipher what heâd said, the redhead repeated, âmy name?â in an attempt to make sure sheâd heard him correctly. âanja. iâm visiting from denmark.â

âYouâre lucky youâre cute,â Cecelia leaned back into her seat, arms crossed over her chest. âIâll let it go this one time but if you get another arranged marriage I demand to know about it.â And then some. âOoh, mysterious,â Cece leaned forward, suddenly very interested. âThatâs interesting. Is he also tall, dark-haired and brooding? You might just be marrying Batman then.â She leaned back, brow quirked up. âBut I mean is heâŠâ she trailed off, lifting up her hands. âFit,â she signed, âis he fit?â
âoh -- oh! you mean physically.â the redhead exclaimed, sitting upright in her seat. considering gabriel, she felt a pink heat rise to her cheeks, and she knew cecelia wouldnât let this slide. her easily flustered nature made her incredibly easy to read. clearing her throat in an attempt to stall for time, anja tried to find the right words. it would be typical for her to call him lovely, as she did most handsome men, but that wasnât quite what cecelia was asking. âheâs quite fit, yes.â she managed to admit. âitâs very-- difficult to handle.â

âdeaf?â he asked out of reflex, âohâI didnâtâsorryââ he raised his hands up, apologetic. what was he to say? that he didnât realize? that she didnât sound deaf? he cringed at the idea alone. he was sure she must have dealt with this often and the last thing he wanted was to add to what must have been an unpleasant experience. âI only know Italian sign language so please let me know if you want to speak clearer or anything like thatââ he added finally and then shook his head. âI would have voted for you.â maybe he was complimenting her too much for a first meeting, but he couldnât help this feeling that she was similar to him in a way no one heâd met was before. âI have looked in a mirrorâŠ? why? do I look scary or something?â she wasnât calling him attractive, was she?Â
âiâm not offended or anything, donât worry,â the redhead reassured, waving off his concern with a small smile. âa few people have thought it was an accent. donât stress too much.â anja was used to it, anyway -- but even so, he seemed nice enough and genuinely inoffensive, so she didnât want him to feel too bad about it. plus, with the added compliments, the danish princess could feel herself flushing. it would have been meant entirely innocently, but she couldnât help it. she wasnât used to them. âyou would have been the only one. but thank you,â anja smiled, before raising her eyebrows. âyou look the opposite of scary. every book about princes saving princesses use you as a template.â she laughed.

anja had no idea how to handle any sort of romance in any capacity.
sure, this was a marriage based on politics, but it didnât mean this would be any easier for her. hands wringing as she anticipated their meeting, the redhead tried to take a few calming breaths. nerves tended to get the better of the danish princess, and she would hate to embarrass herself in front of her one-day husband. plus -- she had no idea how to speak to handsome men, and sheâd seen pictures of gabriel. he was absolutely lovely. Felix chuckled as he let his sister hug him. âDenmark is going to be so lonely without my two redheads. what am i going to do all by myself? iâll go crazy, helt vildt ! one of you has to take me with you. or you can both have joint custody. six months in Romania and six months in Austria.â he joked.Â
âwhatâs ridiculous about me playing a little James Bond and getting you some valuable information? iâm just offering my services as your kĂŠrlig ĂŠldre bror.â he offered, but not pushing her. as an optimist, Felix was fairly certain Caiden wasnât a bad guy, but the elder, protective brother in him would hold on to a slight sense of paranoia about anyone getting close to his sister. a smile reaching his eyes came across his face at her question. ânot the biggest fan of flying, it turns out.â he replied with a chuckle âsheâs lovely. a little shy, but i think she might be opening up to me. iâm glad itâs not a complete stranger, but at the same time, sheâs the little sister of my childhood best friend, which comes with itâs own problems. you should maybe go introduce yourself. i think you and her would get along like a house on fire.â
âi already hate it,â she admitted, hands speaking in almost shy movements. she didnât want to quite admit that she was as devastated as she was over losing her siblings like this -- whilst it had to be done, anja couldnât help but be entirely heartbroken by it. at least when felix and daniella went away on trips, they came home. soon enough, home would be somewhere else.
as somebody who had been painstakingly shy her whole life, who had a surprising naivete about her despite her age, anja could recognise that his little espionage offer was probably not a bad thing. was it a little excessive to call himself james bond? entirely, but his heart was in the right place, and that was one thing the redhead could never fault him for. plus, if he could work caiden out, he could most certainly piece together his future wife, so at least he would be alright without her and daniella. âyou think?â she asked, acutely aware that this meant socialising with a stranger. âi donât... she sounds lovely, at least. but i donât know. maybe jump one hurdle at a time.â
