Week 15 Final Thoughts
I see the future of design almost everywhere. Whether that be new inventions or state of the art technology or even new buildings. Design will be everywhere you look. As mention previously tesla will be a potential future because of their futuristic design. I canât really think of anything else!

Week 14 - Your Choice
Honestly iâve had so much important and crazy stuff go on in my life in the past few weeks that I donât really have any ideas or thoughts related to design that I want to rant about. Plus ranting is never good if its not gonna matter a year from now why waste a minute on it? I really do not want to start any discussion in particular unless it has to do with me sleeping. I do not have any questions regarding design or art. One cool product I can think of is a water bottle that I have that opens when u press a button making it super easy to drink. It also has a nice clip on it so that you can clip it onto stuff.

Week 13 - New Media
Digital Aesthetic is sensual properties and responses to artwork. Aesthetic is important becomes it can make some one feel a type of way. Lets say because the tesla logo is so cool and futuristic that more people who like star wars will buy teslaâs over other electric car brands. This can even be subconscious too you may enjoy a more old retro aesthetic because you grew up back in the day when computers where first becoming popular.

week 12 - new media
Well first interactive design is the design of products that are meant to be interacted with. Interactive design is kind of like citizen design in a way because they both are meant to please the consumer. But an interactive designer goes a little farther than the citizen designers which only does it for visual pleasure. A field that is using interactive design is virtual reality. Sometime in the near future you might be able to feel pain from getting shot in call of duty, smell farts coming from cartman in southpark or even taste a krabby patty from spongebob. Soon enough virtual reality might even take over reality because the world is well, going to crap. Many people might rather be in some sort of simulation outside of the pain and suffering and just find themselves lost in there.

Week 11Â - Graphic Design
In the reading this week the book references someone known as a citizen designer. In my journal post this week I was tasked with explaining what citizen designer means as well as explaining how it is relevant. First I will describe and explain what I think citizen designer means. In reference to the book I think they were explaining a citizen designer as a person who creates new designs which end up benefiting society in the long run. If a new toothbrush design is created that makes brushing teeth more efficient than who ever designed said object should be considered a citizen designer. Another example is if an inventor makes something completely useless to them but it works for a whole different industry. For example blue chew can kind of be considered a citizen design. The relevance of this today is that everyday we use or create designs in order to make our lives easier. That being said a citizen designer helps make our lives easier by designing something meant to appeal to a certain mass of people.

Week 10 Graphic Design
After go over this weeks readings I found myself not that surprised at what was stated. This is because my Graphic Design teacher in highschool loved talking about the history and impact of graphic design. Anytime we would point something out to him he would some how relate it to graphic design. The name Gutenberg sprawled out of that mans mouth it was basically his new form of breathing. Like when we were looking at the tickets for the super bowl the year the rams played the patriots and he was just going on and on about how none of this would be happening if it wasnât for Johannes Gutenberg.

Week 9 â Industrial Design
After reading about Brooks Stevens I think that Milwaukee fits into industrial design because of the influence the Brook gave out. I mean this by he created many different designs for national and world renown companies. This means that anyone who saw that saw Milwaukee's influence. Milwaukee at the time was a bombing industrial city. He had work basically around any corner.

Week 7
This week I was tasked with writing out two key principles of universal design and then to give examples of bath in objects and environments that surround you. So that being said for my first principle I will choose the size and space principle. This principle is based on whether or not it is the right size or space for desired user. One example that I can think of that is actually right in front of me is my mouse. My mouse is a Razer Death Adder and personally it fits my hand really well. I know it is one of the most popular mice that ever came out so that says a lot about its size considering its the same for each one unless you specially get the mini. My next principle that I am going to touch on will be the tolerance for error. One example I can think of for that is adobe illustrator. In my opinion it is a lot easier for me to go back and fix something if needed in illustrator over photoshop. That being said this allows users to go back to fix or change anything needed to help progress.

Week 6
This week I was tasked with posting observations, photographs and sketches of architectural elements around Milwaukee. So I decided to try my best and found some buildings that I know or have seen around the city. Unfortunately I was not able to picture them myself so I used google in order to help complete the rest of the task. One of the first observations that I notice is the wild looking âpelicanâ building that is that art museum. This is definitely one of the more famous buildings in the city due to its crazy looks and âwingsâ that move. The next building posted is the Fed building downtown. It reminds me of a mix between maybe modern and gothic? The other super famous crazy looking building we have here in Milwaukee is the Fiserv forum which is home to the Bucks. This took a post modernist approach in my opinion. The last building is the UWM Architecture building which due to the the blockiness it has I would say it is modern.

week 5
I was tasked this week with pulling at least three different examples from my readings and then correlating those examples with other examples of design i see in my everyday life on a daily basis. So for my first example I decided to choose an image that reminded me of my everyday life. Back when I lived in Milwaukee I would take the Hoan Bridge a lot and this image from the book reminded me of coming into the historic third ward. This image was taken from a chapter in the book which discusses âthe Bauhausâ. According to the book and its text it states that images like these were in there prime after world war one in order to use artists to help inspire others to rebuild Germany in a new image.
Now I understand this may be a bit of a stretch but hear me out. This image was taken from the Bauhaus chapter of the book. This picture is a self portait of Johannes Itten. In the book his expressionist ways were described as almost monk like. He had breathing techniques and his head shaved like a Buddhist man. Immediately after seeing this image this reminded me of the rage against the machine album which used a previously well known image of a Vietnamese monk protesting his against the Vietnamese government.
This image of the front of a Bauhaus building reminded me of a building I used to drive by a lot while traveling from my home town to Milwaukee. I can see why it could be designed like that because there is a lot of german heritage the area.

Week 4
I was tasked this week with the objective of finding objects outside of my phone and my house that have elements of design. Let me just say that it was a little too cold to be going outside for a walk looking for design elements. With that being said I decided my best bet was to be looking for elements of design at work. The first element of design that I noticed at my work was Powder Coating Racks, where we hang up the already coated parts in order to prepare them to go into the oven. This rack is a large rectangle on wheels, made of metal not sure what kind, it also has shelves in order to hang different objects from it. The wheels were put into this design in order to help the user of the cart go from point a to point b ie the powder coating booth and then into the oven. The racks were designed on it in order to help fit more objects on it and put more objects in the oven. IT was made metal obviously to be strong, not bend from the eight, and not get disformed because of the heat. This is sort of comparable to a baking tray in the sense that it allows you to place multiple objects on it in order to be cured. It also allows for easy transportation freedom one place to the next. The next object that I observed was a front lower control arm. The front lower control arm is made out of metal, it is a few different pieces welded up together. It has a bunch of different holes going through it all over the object in order to make sure the customer can fit it on their build no matter what size or model they are using. This design also comes with a moving hymm joint which allows the users to move it freely to fit their own needs.

This item is a Coleman Multi Tool Lighter. This device was most likely designed in order to appease campers, hikers and survivalists. I say this because not only is this a multi tool (meaning it features a handful of tools to help the user out in most situations) but it is also extremely compact. Paired with a windproof protected by a cap, this is one of my favorite everyday designs. The next is a ULine Tuff wipes container that I use when I get oil or grease on myself while working. The lid is designed to be super easy to open because you can either pop it off with your hand squeezing the sides or open it using a lip designed to have your finger other, another great example of design. The next design I chose was a screen cleaner bottle, it is slim, fits great on a desk and has a spray mechanic on the top in order to make it easier for the user to get on a surface. My next everyday design is a ice mountain water bottle which was made in order to have easy access to water. I say this because instead of it having a twist off cap you can simply pop it open with your hand or mouth. The plastic is designed to be thin in order to make the bottle easier to squeeze allowing more water in your mouth. The next item is a lighting remote designed to be easy to lose. I say this because it is very small and I feel like the companies just want you to buy a replacement. This screw was designed using metal in order to help hold something together. My hat is designed in order to keep the sunlight out of my eyes using the brim well also staying on my head using the rim. The shaker bottle was designed to have a shaker in it in order to help mix things being shuck easily. The charger cord was designed to be sleek and not get in the way. On the other hand the port was made huge in order to get more power.

week 2
To begin with this weeks journal post I would like to point out the obvious in order to seem more intelligent than âharvard business reviewâ. I would like to state that Thomas Edison was not the first inventor of the light bulb, he was the first person to patent it yes but I do not believe he deserves that credit. After reading this Harvard business review document I would have to say what my definition of design would be. My definition of design would have to be either a characteristic or asset attributed to anything physically viewable. For example a water bottle has its own design just like phone this design allows us to tell said physical things apart from one another. One example that I can think of design thinking in a product that I use would be the neck pillow on my chair, it is curved and placed in a good position on their chair, ultimately good design. Another example that I can think of design thinking in a product that I use would be the safety toe in the shoes that I wear. These safety toes were meant to keep the users toes protected while still fitting them comfortably. Well what I have gathered from this here document is that design is constantly changing and improving in order to get to as close to perfection as possible.

about me week 1
Hi my name is Dane I am a Junior at UWM. I do not know what I want to do or what I am really doing at all. I am only in college because my dad wants me to be. My academic advisor recommended me this class due to my schedule since I work full time I often get caught up in real life. Over time I have lost inspiration due to the current situation of the world around me its wild. Iâd say I get inspiration from working out but that's really it. I have really no experience whatsoever in design. I bought some shoes on black Friday cause they had a weird looking face on them.
