Karla!
The outline of your website seems to be going great, you’re off of a good start! I like that you described the principles of design that you will incorporate in your site and how they will fit the rhetorical appeals. I really enjoyed the structure of your site because it is easy to navigate and straightforward. Keep up with the good work and don’t forget to go over the basic principles of design to make sure your website is successful!
Week 16: Ethos, Pathos, & Logos

Section B: 
As a writer, Ethos, Pathos, and Logos are very important factors that need to be considered when making a website like the one we are all doing for our final project.  Each of these appeals can be put together and guarantee you great outcomes for your website
Ethos is mainly about providing credibility, and as a writer I would follow this appeal by first creating my home page and provide enough details about me. Writing about my experience with writing and reading and even mentioning the name of the school I am attending to provides the details that will give credibility to my website. On the RWS e-book we have some questions that can help me think about stuff to write about myself and what details are necessary to mention. There is a minimum and a maximum number of words that we should follow so there is no extra words or it does not look like we didn’t provide enough information.

Another appeal that I would be considering as I write my website is Pathos. Pathos is more about adding emotion to our writing. I would be following this appeal by writing about everything that this RWS course has taught me about writing skills and development of myself in big assignments. The more I write about what I learned in the making of this major assignments and how it would help me in my future the more emotion I think I will add to my writing. I will provide enough details so the audience can relate and even learn something new from my experience throughout this course. I would also make it professionally enough for future references.

Last but not least, the appeal Logos is also very important because it would help me to emphasize my writing in a specific tone and fluency and not make it overwhelming and boring. I would follow this appeal by revising my grammar throughout my website and add consistency to each of the paragraphs that I will be adding. The logic added to my writing is important because I want to make sure everything I’m writing makes sense and it is not out of context. Make it as clear as water…..

Section C: As a designer!
3. Using these appeals will not only be important in my writing portion of my website, but also in how it is designed. The five principles of design will help be a lot on how to follow these appeals correctly.
I will be using the credibility of ethos in the design of my website by adding a picture of myself and adding a contact tab with my email. These details will add credibility to my website by actually putting a face to the creator of this reflexions. If they are any concerns the audience could easily contact me via email.

I will be using pathos by following the principle of designs,for example the balance principle consists of putting images and text in a way that does not seem overwhelmed. The more organized the design of my website the audience will have a better understanding of its consistency. As you noticed, I love pink and I tried to use it in a way that it attracts the emotions of the audience and have an idea of who I am. I started my website already and this is how it’s starting to look with all the tabs and a picture of me.

The alignment and grouping principles would fit very well with the Logos appeal. These principles will help me to have the design of my paragraphs in order. Also, the use of contrast in my website will add clarity to identify titles, subtitles and paragraphs. These details will be very important for me to consider in order to add logic to my website along with the writing. I haven’t done much of this portion, but I will be working on it until the submission day.

Section B: As a writer!
 Ethos:
Homepage: I will also talk about my experience in this course by being completely honest to create more credibility. When talking about me, I will explain that I am a student from the University of Texas at El Paso and clearly state the purpose of the website.
Reflections: For this section, I will strive to have no grammatical/punctuation errors when writing the reflection for each assignment.
Logos:
Homepage: The content and structure of the homepage will represent the logo appeal. I will make sure all of my writing is clear and understandable.
Reflections: For this section, I will use graphics as examples/reflections of my writing to show how my assignment looked.
Pathos: 
Homepage: I will talk about me some of my interests and expectations for the class. I will talk about what that I enjoyed about the class assignments and some of the times that I struggled with the material. 
Reflections: Since reflections are talking about my feelings towards the class and assignments, I will use emotional language when writing them. I will implement the emotions I felt throughout the class: proud, joyful, overwhelmed, confused, etc.
Section C: As a designer!

I will set ethos by adding some of my contact information, social media, and a picture of myself. I am also, thinking about adding some screenshots, or quotes from the RWS e-book to have more credibility. 
Logos: 
 I will also make sure that my website is easy to navigate and proportional by creating several tabs and divisions to separate each section. I will focus on the structure of my website to make It look organized.
Pathos:  
To appeal by emotion, I will use a professional style to design my website. I will include visuals both academic and personal to make it more personalized and to help the audience know me a little better. Of course, I will use emotional language when writing each section.

Joy,
I agree with you that the website by trendiness is very messy! You can’t even know where to begin reading. There is no contrast between the fonts and color scheme. The website by Aron Marques, however, is completely the opposite. It is balanced and it is very professional. It makes me want to red the entire thing. I admire how he used his own style and made it very aesthetic.
Week 15: Website Analysis
A.)Trendlines Research
1.) The web page is not well distributed with the content of the text but it looks too busy and viewers might get disturbed and have a hard time looking for the content.
2.) There is no contrast in this webpage, there is no difference in the fonts and everything looks the same.
3.) There is too much consistency in the webpage, there is no balance with the fonts and the content.
4.) There is some grouping of the same content. it is aligned horizontally.
5.) This website had no effectiveness at all. It is too busy and the use of color is somewhat unattractive. The font is too small and has almost no balance. This is a webpage nobody would like to access.

1.) This webpage is profesional and has balanced, the content is well organized and it is easy to navigate.
2.) There is enough contrast in the webpage. The fonts differ from the title.
3.) There is consistency throughout the page, the content Is about the same throughout it.
4.) Vertical distribution.
5.) This webpage is extremely effective, the usage of images in the background and the simplicity of the text has great balance. All this together makes it easier to navigate in the webpage and it is interesting to look at.
- My Website
1. I will make sure I distribute my information throughout my webpage and make sure the colors and font go together and that go well with my topic. I will use horizontal and vertical alignment to make it easier to navigate. I will work well with the content so there is enough consistency. My webpage will be effective If I include all the basics of design.

WEEK 15:  THINKING ABOUT MY WEBSITE
 Part A.

1.     The balance for this website is not very good. Some sections occupy a very large section of the site and some are very reduced. The space was not used effectively. It seems like the creator of the site wanted to fit everything in only one page to avoid scrolling.
2.     The contrast of the website is poor. I think the color scheme chosen was not the best. It is very difficult to know which section to read first. There are no highlighted sections/bolt letters to let the readers know the important sections.
3.     The consistency of this site is very vague. In some parts there is a lot of text and in some parts the text is so small is not even legible. The audience cannot tell where to begin reading. 
4.     The alignment and grouping of the site are not adequately done. The sections seemed to be placed just randomly instead of being carefully organized. Although the sections are in close proximity, the items are messy and instead of creating a relationship between items, it confuses the reader.
5.     I believe the website is not very effective. The color scheme, the lack of a well-structured website, and the misuse of size of fonts makes the site seem almost as if wasn’t a trustworthy site. The website is also missing an introductory section.

 1.     The balance of this website is much better. The information is well spread out and the words balance with the images provided by the creator.
2.     The contrast of this site is very good. The contrast used emphasized key elements, titles, and sections that the creator wanted to highlight. The good contrast was achieved by the use of a classic font and some lines as design.
3.     This site is very consistent. The size of the elements (images/fonts) are balances and used throughout the website. 
4.     Alignment and grouping for this site is more effective.  The sections are carefully divided into sections that do not overlap that creates a very ordered design.
5.     The design used for this website is very aesthetic. The creator put a lot of his personal style when he created the site. It is very professional and makes the reader want to continue reading. All the images added go with the theme used. You can tell the creator for this site a younger person that’s is using his personal style to attract certain audiences.
Part B
1.     I am striving to have a very stable and well-structured design but in order to do that, I will balance my website by placing carefully all the elements. For example, I will place large images in one side and several small one on the other. I will not use more text than images and vice versa. Also, I plan to make my website symmetrical to make it more professional and easy to follow.
2.     In order to use contrast, I will emphasize some key elements by having bold titles and different font sizes. I will carefully choose the color scheme of the website to make sure the colors go together.
3.     To employ consistency, I will stick to one color scheme, theme, and texture.
4.     To have achieve a successful website, I will use alignment and grouping effectively. I will delicately use elements that will connect to each other. I will not place things randomly to avoid a messy effect and in order to get my message across.
5.     I will use white and Black with some navy blue because I feel it makes the website look more professional and the tones are not aggressive. I want to avoid aggressive colors because I don’t want to transmit the wrong message.
6.     Other factors I’ll use to have an effective website are that I will apply my own style. I will make it very appealing but also very professional. I will make it easy to navigate .

Hello,
I think that most of us started this project very confused but now we are slowly understanding more what is expected from our poster. I agree with you that the structure can be hard to design especially if there are three people trying to put their own style into the project. Which is great! You just have to come to an agreement by combining everyone’s ideas. You said you feel confident about most of the content and personally I think that was the hardest part of this project so now you just have to work on the design. I am excited to see your poster!

Documentary
Since we have already worked as a group, hopefully it won’t be hard to determine the meeting days. Following a similar format for the poster project, I plan to meet with my group especially on Monday after 10:30 am. However, I believe the load for this task is heavier so we will probably have to meet during the week, maybe Wednesday at noon, and even Friday at any time possible.

As mentioned, the load for this project might take a bit of extra effort so it will be necessary to work alone. I am planning to do that on Tuesday and Thursday.

One of the most important parts of the meetings is to discuss what and how each of the group members will do. We are going to address aspects as the introduction, the claim, our style, good research, advocating, the use of Ethos, Pathos and Logos, and the Conclusion.

In order to properly address these aspects, we will use the e-book to check what is required from each one of them and the internet to complement the information.

The aspects I am most concerned about are the claim and the style. 
Claim: Not because I do not now my position towards the matter or because I do no not know what I want my audience to think, but because I am not sure on how to structure it. 
Style: I am a die-hard fan of the seventh art, so I am very picky about every single detail related to it. Therefore, defining our style for this project might be a bit difficult. 
However, the guidelines from the e-book seem helpful and with some time meditating by myself I might be able to create a mental picture of what we want to do for the project.

I feel more confident about the Introduction, the Conclusion, and the Copyright because once the main part of the documentary is done, these aspects are merely technical and easier to work with.

Week 14: WRAPPING UP THE POSTER: CREATING A PLAN OF ACTION
For this project I will commit at least 3 days a week to work on it. I will work on the research poster both collaboratively and individually. This poster will require a lot of time in order to do it correctly. Mondays, wednesdays, and Fridays, I will work with my group and I will work on it individually on sundays.

 My group and I have agreed to work together two days a week. Mondays and Fridays will be dedicated to work collaboratively and on my Sundays I will work on it by myself. Also, I will try to use my free time between work and school work individually on the sections I am responsible for.

On Mondays we will focus on the actual content of the poster: introduction, results, sources, etc. On Fridays, we’ll work on the visual appealing and design of the poster. On Mondays the group will meet at noon and on Friday we’ll meet around 3:00 pm. Of course if there is class time available, we will definately dedicate the time to work on our poster.

 In order to achieve the goals for our project, we will do a ton of research to make sure the information is accurate. The research information will be gathered from scholarly sources to be 100% sure that they are credible. We will follow the guidelines provided by Miss Audrey to complete the poster. Most importantly, we will be open minded and listen to each other’s ideas to design the structure of our poster.

 The aspects of the assignment that concern me are the results section because we need to come up with a solution to the problem stated. We came up with some ideas but we still need to do more research. I am also concerned with the structure of the poster, we have a lot of information and a limited space. I am worried on how we are going to condense all the information. I am also concerned with how we will address some of the rhetoric appeals.

We really did not know where to begin or which structure to follow until we looked at these examples (well speaking for my self only of course). Week 13: Analyzing Research Poster and Implications for my own design
It is now time to analyze and figure out how to make my own research poster……

Section A: Analyzing a Research Poster
1. Effects of Electrical stimulation on Schwann cell migration on polypyrrole substrate

2. This poster is similar from the requirements for our own research poster in how the information is structured. For example it includes introduction, title, author, results, and conclusion. This poster provides short but precise paragraphs that are understandable which are also a requirement for our own research poster. Other requirement similarities are that in this poster they include images, colors, different fonts for titles and subtitles, which are helpful for the audience to read and have a better understanding of the poster. The requirement differences between this poster and our own is that the Intro is more of a background and a question-based information. Also, this poster provides the methods used and ours only requires the results because the topics for the poster are different. The information from this poster is more of science-method and our info would be more of a persuasive information.
3. The purpose of the poster is to show the effects of an electrical stimulation to cure nerve injuries and actually show how and why is it done like this and under what circumstances. The purpose of actually informing the audience is well done because they provide images showing the treatments and the methods of how can this nerve injury can be repaired. What they missed to include in this poster is the why does this nerve injury occur, and how to prevent it.
4. The intended audience for this poster is people with knowledge in biology because they include images that only people that know about biology would understand. Also, other intended audience for this poster would be people who are interested in knowing more about nerve injuries and how can it be repaired, because the poster also includes information that is understandable for someone not knowledgeable in science. The intended audience would also have to be young adults/adults because of the elevated level of information this poster includes, which a child would not understand.
5. This poster display ethos by including the schools in which this poster got the information from. These schools seem to be biology-related so they are really effective when it comes to providing credibility to the information. Also, it includes the names of the people who created these posters (Authors). This type of information provides trustworthiness because people can easily look for the schools and the authors to see if they are knowledgeable people.
6. This poster displays pathos by providing trustworthiness by the authors, and intellectual information which is not very effective. It is not effective because after providing all this information they ended with a conclusion of “hoping to” which displays confusion about the possibilities of this methods actually working.
7. This poster displays logos by providing a well structured and understandable poster, and this is effective because the audience could easily follow through. The sentences provided in this poster are also very straightforward, which helps the audience to understand the purpose of this poster. The only thing that this poster seemed to fail according to logos is the font size, which is not very clear and hard to understand the sentences.
Section B: Implications for your own research poster
1. I will use the sample and my own analysis towards guiding my own group research poster by following the structure and all the things that this poster seem to have in common with mine. Also, I really liked how the information was structured, in a way that it is not overwhelming. It also provides the sufficient images with its short but understandable text. My group and I may not do the same structure used in this poster, but I think it does gives us and idea of what a good poster can look like.
2. Our research poster outline was changed in a way that it gives us an idea of how an effective research poster should be done. At first, we were confused on how to structure the information but analyzing this poster gave us an idea of what should and should not be done according to ethos, pathos, and logos. Using the Rhetorical appeals to analyze this poster also helped me to follow the same analysis when it comes to my research poster.

Internet Inequality: The impact of home internet access on school success 
This poster is similar to the one we need to create. Like ours, this poster is divided into sections for example: background, results, and conclusion to discuss the topic. This poster, however, is missing the sources/references section and ours is not required from an abstract nor a methodology sections. This poster and ours are similar in that they must include  images and/or data graphs that are representative of our research.
The purpose of the poster is to inform about the effects on academic performance of students who have and those who lack from internet access at home. The research poster also focuses on the comparison between Hispanic/non-white and White students’ academic performance due to mostly economic reasons. This causes the poster to be very straightforward and clear in it’s purpose.
The intended audience for this poster are families that lack internet usage at home, Hispanic parents, Hispanics in general, non-white parents, non-white students, teachers, school districts, and English speaking communities. The topic seems to fit these audiences because it uses the words to refer to specific societies such as “Hispanics” and “non-white” to referred to the students being affected.  
The ethos of this poster is established by the mentioning of the University of Texas at Austin. This provides credibility because it makes the reader believe that the information is, in fact, not fraudulent or made up. It is effective because UT Austin is a very recognized university that it would be hard not to believe what they are saying.  
This poster displayed pathos by using an image. In this image, we can see several students using at a computer lab, however, there is a boy, that seems Hispanic, struggling in front of a computer and he is the only one being assisted. The image can be interpreted as how students could be struggling in school due to the lack of internet use at home. This creates an emotional response from the readers. 
The Logos of the poster were presented by the graphs and facts provided by the authors. The authors used data to create statistics to persuade the readers by logic.
Section B: Implications for my own research poster
I will use the poster as a guide towards designing my own. This research poster is very easy to read and it is visually appealing. I will definitely use this poster as inspiration to design my own. I want my poster to be as clear and as appealing as this one. I like the colors they used because it grabs the attention and at the same time it looks profesional. My group and I will each work hard to make sure this is achieved and that our purpose is understood.
Now that I have evaluated this poster my group’s outline has changed because now I have a clearer idea of what it is expected from our poster. I now  have a better perspective of how to arrange the sections to avoid making it too heavy on words. This will also change the outline since I have realized how the author used all three rhetorical appeals to get their message across and its effectiveness. This poster has also changed my group’s outline because it has given us an idea of how the final project will have to look.

Hello Morgan,
I actually like that your topic does not affect you directly because you are in fact a majority in in your field because it’s like responding to my topic from another perspective. I find interesting how you addressed the topic and it makes me very happy to know that you want become more diversified and more open minded towards the growing minority populations. I am sure you will succeed in your field and I am glad all this work was not in vain and you feel confident and prepared for future research.

Before this class I honestly would have fallen flat on my face trying to conduct a research paper on my own!

But now I feel pretty confident. If i had to write another one outside of this class, i have so many tools and tricks that Audrey has given us to use! That’s why taking everything she gives us seriously is very important for future classes. She has given us a good basis for future papers.
At the beginning of the semester I didn’t really understand the whole point of picking a semester topic, but taking a step back now it has really opened my eyes. Everything that Audrey has had us do in class in only going to help us later including the scholarly research and making contacts in our own fields through primary research. Overall Audrey has better prepared me for future papers as an undergrad and grad student!

Making us do the primary research, has opened the door for us to make contacts with people that are currently working our fields of interest. The people we interviewed may be our future professors, advisors, or peers once in our fields.

Even though I’m not directly affected by the topic I chose for research, I can still help make a difference. Being the racial majority in the nursing field doesn’t necessarily put me ahead however. Through the research i found, I still have to keep up my motivation and determination to be the best nurse I can be. Recruiters look for several things outside of race and cultural competence. With the growing racial minority population, it would be in my best interest to diversify the way I think and learn. This could help me have better patient interaction in the future when I become an RN.

Week 12: Reflecting about research skills
In this course I got to do my first research paper ever. I learned much more than what I was expecting in the process. One thing I learned about my field is that it really lacks from racial diversity especially from African Americans and Hispanics. Hispanics are the fastest growing minority but the number of Hispanic doctors are in fact declining. Creating a literature review enabled me to conduct research the right way and it actually made me more interested in my field and in my semester topic. I believe it’s great that this assignment made us interact with people that cares about diversity in the U.S.’ workforce.

This research paper was not as hard as I was expecting because we started doing research from the first week of school when we selected our semester topics. I am really bad at elaborating on my essays that I have to be honest: I was very afraid of this assignment. I never thought I would be able to write so many words. But now I feel more confident about doing research and documenting the findings.

 This course has taught me to read, write, analyze, and communicate in a more academic level. The information I have gathered from my topic has encouraged me to continue my studies and to contribute to diversity in my field to work for underserved communities. The skills I am developing from this course will help me become a better researcher. My field is all about research and I am confident these skills will help me succeed in my field.

I enjoyed reading your post because it is very clear, short, and simple. I like that you drew arrow pointing towards the right folders when looking for the method instructions in blackboard since it can get a little confusing. You also highlighted the sections on the RWS e-book which makes it even more helpful because you can just read it off right away! If I had to write the method section for my essay, I would definitely use your instructions as a guide.

Methods
 1. Purpose of your primary research:
 Make sure to title your research
Have a statement explaining what you hoped to learn
 2. Methods used to conduct your primary research 
The who, what, when, how, and what.
3. Results of your primary research:
How the interview results tie in with the rest of material.
Detailed statement telling your audience how the responses will be discussed throughout the paper.
4. Implications of your primary research
How interview results relate to your other sources.
Relate the results to the community or a to bigger scale.
Interview Material 
1. Begins with requesting an interview from your list of picked scholars.
2. Once you receive a response, make sure to follow up with an “Interview Confirmation”

3. Remember to have your interview materials for recording

If no author, cite the source by its title in the signal phrase or use the first word or two in the parentheses
A work by two or three author should name all authors and use the word “and” between the authors name in the signal phrase or parenthesis
Six or more authors should use the first authors name followed by “et al” in the signal phrase or parenthesis
If source does not have a page number, reference the source by its paragraph number
For interviews cite the communicators name (Initial and Last name), a comma and then the fact that it was “personal communication”, and the date of the communication (Month Day , Year)
For Direct quotes: cite author in the signal phrase or after quotation citation, but author and date should always be together
For paraphrasing: even if it’s not in quotation, it is needed to cite the source of your information

After reading your questions I feel like you have a good understanding of the assignment. Your interview questions are well developed and the concept is there. I actually used your post as an example to begin with mine! One thing I did notice from your post is the APA format. Be sure to use the correct APA format for citation since it is missing several elements. Overall your work is off to a good start, keep it up!
