Which news TV programs do you enjoy and which ones do you avoid?  Explain why. 

I don’t have television cable so I don’t know much about programs, but we can say I like Disney Channel because it sometimes entertains me when we are in another place.  

Do you consider news TV programs to still be relevant today?  

-Yes, if they give me the choice to see or read news, I would choose to see.

Who is the typical audience for news TV programs?  What age group?  Which gender?

-Older people of all gender.

COMPARISON ESSAY: Culture in Mexico and United Kingdom

Culture, best defined as characteristic features of everyday life shared by people in a certain place or time, is vital for human existence. As simple as it may seem, culture dictates how people live and is a very important part of someone’s identity. Even though, in hindsight, Mexico and the United Kingdom seem like complete opposites, they have quite the list of similarities. Mexico and the UK have different cultures but in this essay we will talk about 3 in specific, which are: festivals and traditions, music and taboos.

In Mexico we have some festivals which represent our culture as Mexicans. The International Balloon Festival is a festival that takes place in Guanajuato, it is an event where people can observe the shapes and colors of the balloons and spend time with their family or friends. On the other hand in the United Kingdom we have the Glastonbury festival, one of the most visited music festivals since it stands out for the shape of the stage and its size. This festival is attended by singers of different genres such as: pop, rock, blues, among others. In both festivals  music is present since musical artists attend; also in the two events you can enjoy the company of your family or friends.

Music is an essential part of culture, you could even say it’s its expressive language. For Mexico and the UK, music is heavily intertwined with civilization. In Mexico’s case, its music is as diverse as its country.

Some of the most popular genres include banda, mariachi, norteño, and ranchera. Notwithstanding, British music takes inspiration from contemporary genres such as opera and even creates folk songs. Britain has produced some of the world’s most prominent artists, for example: The Beatles, Queen, and The Rolling Stones.

Taboo is usually considered to be everything that is prohibited from a moral point of view, every country has taboos, and one example of taboos in Mexico is to be disrespectful to older people. These taboos are in the same way with the United Kingdom. One taboo that is very common in the United Kingdom is to use people’s first name, also in Mexico it is very usual to do it. Similarly, things that we find offensive in Mexico can be completely ordinary for the UK and vice versa. An example of this is how when asking for the bill in Britain, it’s rude to speak with your hand. On the contrary, a taboo both countries can agree on is to never ask someone how much money they make.

As we’ve established previously, culture is a crucial aspect of human life. Mexico and the United Kingdom are both examples of how different aspects can influence culture, some being festivals and traditions, music, and taboos. Findings about culture can give the community an opportunity to understand their roots, which most importantly, helped us realize the importance of our rich, colorful and vibrant heritage.

Name: Daniela Medellín (a01286690)

Hello friends! My name is Daniela, I have 14 years and I will start with my own blog! I need first to say my expectations for this year and the only thing I can say is I hope it will be fun to learn.

I want to start first introducing myself with my pleasures and preferences for everything!

Well, my favorite food is pizza, I prefer fall than another seasons of the year, my perfect day would be me listening music with my headphones in the car, raining outside. My favorite animal is the dog (I have one, is just so precious), if I had the opportunity to choose some superpower y would choose the ability to enter in any book or anime that exists (very cool, right?). And since we are talking about superpowers, my favorite hero is Iron Man. Why? I just love sarcastic people and his personality. One of my favorite series that is not anime is A Series of Unfortunate Events, is in Netflix and I recommended, is so interesting.

I born in October, I want to become a film director or film scriptwriter. I prefer inside than outside and I started to like reading since I was nine years old with Harry Potter and since then I become obsessed with fantasy books, although I have already read another types of books like The Book Thief (and I liked), I don’t really interesting of read more books like that, but we’ll see. 

I really don’t remember what was my first anime, but since then I can’t stop. It’s not just fantasy, I like romantic animes and books too (most of the animes and books we will talk have some romance). But clearly, including fantasy.

And I think is all I need to introduce myself, so we can talk later! I’m sorry if there is any mistakes, I promise I will get better, Good bye!
