thinking about Aang and ATLA today AS USUAL and how there continue to be people that just //hate// his character, think he was weak and selfish, think the lion turtle was deus ex machina and that Aang should’ve been forced to make the hard choice and kill Ozai

and I just realized, the show isn’t called Avatar: the Defeat of the Fire Nation its called Avatar: the last Airbender. meaning Aang'e entire arc is not just about being the avatar and saving the world, it’s about embodying what it means to be, literally, the last and only Airbender in a world torn apart by war

Yes imo I didn’t think gender was that central to Pidge’s character though Im sure others will disagree. and thats fine, people relate to & understand characters differently. What I like about her is how freely she goes about doing her own thing without thinking much about her gender… like that its okay and normal to not have your gender fully figured out. And like this is one way of looking at it, and def not a conclusive interpretation so antis put your pitchforks down lol..

I’m sure Shiro is alive… I dont think Dreamworks would go that dark 😣  if that astral plane theory is real I hope it’s like… he’s just safe asleep in a dream state.. Boy needs to catch a break after all the shit he’s been through, he really needs a moment of peace lol. though that would definitely provide perfect opportunity for flashbacks—both the Black Lion’s memories (History of Voltron, Betrayal of Zarkon, Rise of the Galran Empire!) and Shiro’s memories (maybe how he met Keith? They’re undeniably good friends and it’d be nice to know their background… also, maybe he’ll be able finally remember and confront the things he’s forgotten during this time as Champion… that’s gonna be hard for him :-( there’s so many possibilities tbh!

It’s good you’re not the type to act on common prejudices! i don’t wanna go in too deep but yeah, its unfortunate that S2 had to perpetuate some Bad Tropes but I trust that the staff will be better in treating the characters of color better.

Haha, was this during the episode when they were trying to take down Zarkon’s ship? Mmm yeah, I really hope they explore Allura & Coran more in the future seasons and give their past that respect. Like I think Coran will always be a source for comic relief, I don’t think thats gonna change any time soon, but that doesn’t mean the staff won’t flesh him out more.  Like I want them to explore the impact of how they feel being the only Alteans left, how extremely heavy that grief can weigh on someone but at the same time how empty it feels having nothing left.… I think they will though, since they are the same people that did ATLA, and there was Aang who was also a survivor of genocide and they handled that heavy subject matter well. That Haggar reveal really changes things though and for Allura & Coran’s sake, I hope that the Altean culture isn’t completely lost. I haven’t seen any of the old series so idk where this is going, but! I don’t mind whatever path they go, so as long as they flesh it out well and treat the character’s and their traumas with due respect.

I don’t think we can stop nasty people from entering fandoms 😭  I think its just.. part of the fandom experience. In any fandom. To have that group of nasty fans.. though in this one its more pronounced lol. Again, sorry for the late reply & I hope this sates your curiosity to hear more lol!! Ok so people seem to be talking about how Lance doesn’t speak Spanish/Spanglish in canon, but listen to this.

Lance only speaking Spanglish with Hunk because he feels comfortable speaking Spanglish around him.

Hunk eventually mirroring/mimicking Lance’s mannerisms and ends up speaking Spanglish himself without really meaning to.

Part 2 (bc I talk too much): I LOVED THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! It was beautiful (Lance lacked in that department tho but I feel like they’re building him up for S3) I wish they would regard Coran as more of a caring character than a comic relief one (so much potential flashbacks w/Altean past!). The Keith arc tho. My soul cannot take it anymore. Hunk and Keith bonding! (It’s precious)! ~Z

I agree abt Coran. tbh he is the True Space Mom, like I really enjoyed his moments with Lance in S1 like when he consoled him on his homesickness & then when they were both cleaning the cryo-pods. and like.. how he cares about Allura so much!?! ok and also, Im sure you’ve heard this already bc i dont think anybody was impressed lmao but I wasn’t a big fan of how they shoehorned Hunk into a comic relief role either, like the food jokes were just.. poor taste. I don’t think the creators meant to demean him in any way, but with the more serious & weighty tone of the main arc focusing on Keith and his heritage, they needed to have that comic relief to balance it out. Not justifying Hunk’s treatment he rly did deserve better but I can see why they did that. I dont like it though.

Lmao the fandom is SO harsh Im sorry you were made 2 feel that way. I think both she & they pronouns are fair game. though its canon that Pidge identifies as a girl—whether trans or cis is all headcanon territory—thanks to that one scene where she was told to ‘man up’. To add though, I see her as sort of on the spectrum... like a demigirl. i don’t think she feels strongly about gender.. as in.. she doesnt seem to hinge a lot of her identity on it? not saying that gender unimportant to her, but compared to the grand scheme of things: the whereabouts of her brother, being a paladin of voltron etc, I doubt she puts a lot of weight into it. but when she is confronted with it lmao like that little scene in the space mall and how confused she was.. Pidge is still young and like, gender is fluid, like you said. she’s probably trying to get a grip on her own gender identity herself .. and thats very much an ongoing process. I think its really open to interpretation, so either one is all right. I think he/him pronouns would be misgendering though since she did express discomfort*

Pidge was really endearing throughout the season THOUGH! I have a little. bit of criticism. but its not about her, but how her intelligence was framed? it was poor taste how the show needed to make Lance & Hunk look dumb to make Pidge look smart. considering race and all, it’s really REALLY! poor taste having to discredit two brown boys’ intelligence in order to elevate a white person’s? Like i know the creators probably didn’t mean to do that, but thats what happened when they made both Hunk & Lance the comic reliefs! I’m sure there is a way to frame Pidge as her genius self without degrading H&L, like u could have them nodding along & extending upon her ideas. HUNK at the very least who’s supposed to be the engineer of the team should have been 😕. I read somewhere on a twitter that they could both be like translators lmao, and like explain Pidge’s rambles in layman’s terms to Shiro and Keith (who prob know nothing abt engineering and all that, being solely pilots and all) and Allura and whoever else is lost lmao. Like i don’t think making them look dumb was necessary at all 😔

Im super concerned about Shiro as well 😭 Other fans are guessing he’s stuck on that astral plane which makes sense of his really really abrupt disappearance. im really curious abt whether his stay in the astral plane will involve more black lion flashbacks + more fleshing out on the history of Voltron? That would be really interesting.

Let me make my stance clear… Anti fans of any kind aren’t welcome on my blog… ok i’m specifically talking about anti sheiths lol, the main perpetrators of harassment in fandom and dont even deny it! I’m not gonna get too deep into this but it’s disgusting how awful people have been on ships of characters whose ages have not been confirmed and don’t send me that video tht doesn’t even STATE the actual ages, that’s weak evidence considering the other official descriptions/sources out there that directly contradict that. The fact that yall use that vid + a personal! subjective! headcanon! on what ur interpretation of paladins ages are as the basis for attacking people is so… beyond me. I dont get you.

And like.. the amount of anti asian racism and ableism in arguments trying to disprove certain ships is astounding. Just Please see reason and realise your crusade is just…. ineffectual lmao?.. like what is the end goal. What do you want to achieve.. At the end of the day, what are you contributing. Is it constructive,… And if you think being aggressive and imposing your perspective (which you think is The Only Right One) on others who disagree with you is being constructive then.. idk.. go take a walk outside or something.. rediscover yourself,.. The utter lack of education on Asian directed hostility that has been a continued issue in the united states ever since we first started coming here.

People treating all race issues as just Black vs White

The assumption that since Asians have the  stereotypes of being smart, docile, and nonthreatening, that we lack a struggle other minorities have

The hypersexualization of Asian women and the complete desexualization of Asian men

How almost all asian representation in media is accompanied with an accent, and rarely breaks from the stereotypes
