How many times did it need to be reiterated that the Sasuke everyone knew was a gross distortion of his true character due to having the culmination of the entire Uchiha clan’s hatred placed on his shoulders?

It can sometimes get annoying to see people thinking back to this:

And claiming that that was the “real” Sasuke.

Because it wasn’t. That was a Sasuke heavily influenced by a curse that had plagued his clan for generations; one that affected him the most severely out of everyone in his clan before him.

Obito reiterated it after Sasuke’s confrontation with Killer Bee, where he subtly shadowed the pattern followed by the curse of hatred; where when one loves and suffers loss, it risks turning into an even greater hatred:

Kakashi reiterated it during their reunion in The Land of Iron, where he stated that the Uchiha clan’s history of hatred was what turned Sasuke into what he currently was. It obviously wasn’t his true self:

Itachi reiterated it during their reunion after he was reanimated, where he indicated that the only thing he accomplished by carrying out the Uchiha massacre and attempting to use Sasuke’s resulting hatred in which he gave him, was turning Sasuke into an international criminal:

Tobirama explicitly reiterated it when he and the other Hokages were reanimated by Orochimaru, where he indicated that Sasuke became consumed by his hatred; his current self wasn’t an accurate depiction:

And Hagoromo explicitly reiterated it while Sasuke and Naruto were making their way to The Valley of the End, where he states that the current Sasuke was moulded and shaped by the loss of the love he had in his past:

All these people keep on reiterating how the present Sasuke most definitely wasn’t his true self. But was rather a dark distortion of the real thing due to the hatred that was plaguing his mind.

Yet, so many people still believe that throughout all the so-called “negative development” of SS, Sasuke was being true to himself and thinking clearly. They constantly claim that Sasuke made it clear he didn’t care about her at all, and that he hated her, when all of that can easily be disproven even without taking the curse of hatred into consideration. Even for the scene where Sasuke claims he has no reason to love Sakura; a scene that so many extremists cling to as being the “Ultimate SS Killer”, they say that as if that’s the real Sasuke talking, and not a mere shell of his former self who refuses to allow love in his life due to a curse that had plagued his clan for centuries. How could he have genuinely loved anyone at that point when his feelings of love had transformed into “an indomitable hatred that consumed [him]”? 

The fact of the matter is that Kishi had repeatedly forced it into the readers’ heads that this Sasuke:

Was “consumed by a depraved path” due to “the loss of the love that he once had”. Any negative action he took towards anyone was being heavily dictated by his hatred. However, Hagoromo predicted that should Sasuke be saved, the reverse would occur, and his hatred would instead transform into love:

And that’s exactly what happened:

SS isn’t a story of a guy hating a girl for years, and then randomly having a “forced” change of heart. It’s a story of a girl trying to restore a guy to his former, true self, and the guy being regretful of his actions, and eternally grateful once her endeavour came to fruition. 

Some people really need to realize that Sasuke’s heinous words and actions towards Sakura and everyone else (because some extremists inexplicably seem to believe that he only acted this way towards her), cannot be taken as an accurate reflection of his true sentiments. Only his pre-massacre and post-698 self can serve to fulfil that purpose.
