thinking alot about how kurt is the one in charge of the laws, morals and norms in gambämark too.. like he decides what would be normal for his and josuas father & son relationship ...

Kurt has no wife because he's grooming his son to be his prince-bride. He keeps Josua in an infantile position for his age (as @imsorryimlate says in the tags of this post, 15 is too old for lollipops outta dad's pocket) and isolated not only from the influences of the outside world but from other children who might give him ideas about what is normal.

Josua follows a pattern he's grown to know in his relationships and that's why the one person he truly befriends is an older man; he needs the step of hopping from one father figure to another (who's, luckily, vehemently anti-authoritarian) before growing into himself.

I should establish that I do think Kurt genuinely loves Josua and is not a terror of a father but I also do think it’s telling that when Josua sees Gunnar with the berry-picker his first reaction isn’t “they were banned, so they’re wrong now”, it’s “they’re banned and we’re in danger if anyone sees us with them”

I will be brave when I say that Kurt Byman has a praise kink, they even made a song about it!!

I like to think that Kurt made the song För Gambämark just so he could hear that he did a good job. And of course to hear what the villagers are up to. But the main part is when they sing "ede jåor do bra", you did your job well, you make everything work every day, oh my god Kurt is beaming and blushing I hate him!!!

I bet he was giggling and kicking his feet when he wrote that line.

And the dance for me part, oh so demanding and he can say that because he makes it all work and is this mighty leader who is above all and everyone.

But Kurt, darling, that is just your own little bubble you are living in
