15 years ago youtube videos were like two or three freshly graduated guys making mildly homophobic but also somewhat homoerotic comedy skits filmed in 480p on a digital camera gifted to them by god and now its all like 25 minute long videos that are like "THE DARK SIDE OF TINY TOONS"

I kind of love when one of these things tries to tempt you with a story that has been sensationalist clickbait fodder for almost two centuries already

Group chat spontaneously decided we're reading Infinite Jest this year, pretty psyched. I've enjoyed all the DFW I've read (basically) but have bounced off IJ repeatedly for the dumbest imaginable reason, which is that I bought a 90s hardcover because I liked it as an object and it is simply too huge to read.
Going to treat myself to the 90s paperback if I can catch one at the used bookstore here.

If Hallmark ever makes one of these movies where it seems like the guy might know (for any reason) what happened on January 6 they will have permanently lost the plot and some other company is going to have to start making them

I need to know more about the people who are on Tumblr live or, even crazier, just watching people on there. It's like a parallel universe, but a very small, struggling one that has—sorry the simile is breaking down—that has a bunch of well-funded competitors who do the same (get it together man) universe stuff but with a much bigger audience.

That's a fun way of thinking about it—like if our world was somebody's fantasy novel and on the subreddit for it people were constantly inventing all the famous perpetual motion machines. "Splitting the atom is ridiculous when they could just tape buttered toast to a cat and drop it off the counter, I hate how little the author thinks of this stuff."
the real honest answer to "why didnt they just [insert solution that would end the story in five minutes]" is because that would end the story in five minutes and if we lived in a world where every story ended in five minutes what would be the point

3. Staten Island (no man is an island)
4. The Bronx (has an x, gender neutral)

I'm on this same streak. It's a really cool achievement but I'm not going to be able to set the all-time record myself, since I'm never going to die
thinking about how in my entire life everything i’ve ever done has been normal. an incredible run
