Non-homophobibc, valid criticisms of Tommy AS HE IS NOW that bds could easily use so they stop looking fucking awful everytime they open their mouths:

- He, like others have, made a choice for Buck without giving Buck a chance to push back or fight for himself and his feelings (the break up)

- He runs when he's scared or hurt, resulting in him hurting others

- He makes assumptions and jumps to conclusions too often, especially when it comes to what Buck says vs. what he means

- He is written EXTREMELY surface-level, which you could reasonably say that he chooses to keep distant in relationships in order to keep himself unhurt

- He was pretty judgemental toward Abby post-breakup considering he called her next boyfriend a "himbo" (and maybe a tad hypocritical, we don't actually know Tommy's exact age)

- He can come across bitchy, sarcastic, and petty (this isn't some people's cup of tea, and that's okay!)

The next time you want to criticize Tommy, really think about genuine criticisms instead of insinuating that he's dirty, gross, or unhygienic when it comes to sexual practices OR implying that he's predatory. And while you're at it, maybe watch actual queer media about queer men--not just the ones you wish were queer--or better yet, get offline, get into the world, and actually meet people that are queer. Just don't subject them to the shit you subject Tommy and Tommy fans to.

no because looking back at it like this is insane. tommy left the 118 and became a pilot. he worked with hen and chim for years, and was there when bobby first became captain. for at least a year.

then years later, when it’s canon he and chim aren’t even in that much contact, he responds straight away to a call from chim to fly a plane and put out a huge fire. that saves eddie, and in turn, helps to let eddie save that little kid.

then years after that, he responds to another call out of nowhere to steal and fly a helicopter through a hurricane, makes fake mouth static to lie to the chief, and lands on the belly of a capsized cruise ship. he saves bobby and athena and a whole bunch of other people in the process.

THEN, even after he gets into a fight with his ex, where he leaves thinking buck didn’t have feelings for him. HE STILL ANSWERS HIS CALL. he runs from the army and the fbi all to save chim. and for buck.

and then the next episode, we find out that years ago when bobby was actively suicidal, he saves his life by grabbing him and stopping from falling into a collapsing floor. if that action didn’t happen, if tommy didn’t stop him that day, bobby literally wouldn’t be there. the whole show couldn’t have happened.

i’m sure there were many other moments like this during the og 118’s time, but they made a point to show that on screen (in bobby’s funeral episode!)

they’ve established tommy as a guy who always shows up even when he’s not on good terms with people, because he genuinely cares, because he’s genuinely a good friend and will even risk the wrath of the army and the FBI and the fire chief. he’ll risk his life and job with no question. not only that, they’ve established him as central to the plot by saving not only eddie, but bobby twice, athena AND chim.

and there’s the whole he kickstarted buck’s bisexual realisation by kissing him and was his first and most transformative relationship thing.

it’s just.. so very. interesting. they didn’t need to keep bringing him back and making him integral to the plot! but they do!

noticed without even really knowing buck tommy noticed buck was feeling some type of way about his friendship with eddie.

tommy noticing buck wasn’t ready to be be open with his sexuality in public, ended the date and their situation till buck was ready.

was buck’s outlet when bobby was in the hospital and uplifted buck’s mood. (his kinky ass)

was there for buck’s shenanigans even if he didn’t believe them himself.

informed hen and karen he didn’t want to push buck into anything and letting him take the lead

stayed and cooked for buck when he wasn’t obligated. (the first night buck was able to actually sleep mind you)

was willing to open himself up more to buck until his insecurity set in

showed up for buck despite how he was feeling where they left off

even broken up, tommy could feel the pain buck was experiencing when bobby died

you can get mad or whatever, but if there was anyone who could actually see buck for what he was without being told he was selfish or he can’t think for himself and was there for him that wasn’t bobby, it was tommy.
