Sometimes in old Scooby-Doo episodes there really *was* a horrifying monster or ancient curse or shambling undead creature and I feel like we just don't talk about that

explaining old praetorium to people who never experienced it makes me feel like a crazy person. like yeah there were 8 players there. the tanks pulled every single add so that the rest of the party could hit a button, then they pulled two full hallways of enemies so the party could skip ahead, and sure they usually died but it was prae so that didn't matter.
then after the first boss you had to get on the elevator. all 8 of you. at the same time. yeah if we forgot someone we have to go back. then every single person has to pick up a key to turn on the magitek armor and get on another elevator. hope you didn't miss that one.
nero was whatever but gaius barely did any mechanics, he really just fell over. then you'd have the whole ultima weapon fight, which was two phases and one of them you barely did any damage. oh and at the end you fought lahabrea. if you were lucky he was Lahabread and if he lived more than ten seconds it was a miracle. congrats for spending 45 minutes of your life in prae, have some exp.
#FFXIV#and it was a great run if you had a lovely bunch who talked in the chat#and boring as hell if no one did

Cancer, Bureaucracy, and the Fight to Just Be Heard
They say battling cancer is about hope, science, and resilience. What they don’t say is that it’s also about paperwork, hold music, medical bills, denials, and loneliness.
I’ve learned that treatment isn’t just chemotherapy and radiation. It’s waking up in pain and still needing to call insurance, fill out forms, explain yourself, and plead for recognition. It’s trying to find a job while your body is shutting down. It’s being told, in a formal letter, that you’re not sick enough — not yet. That you can still work. That you should try harder.
I am doing this alone now. My partner — the one who used to care for me in every illness — is gone. And in his absence, no system has stepped up to say: "We see you. We will help you carry this."
Cancer isn’t linear. It doesn’t follow a six-month arc with a happy ending. It stretches across years, changing your body, your mind, your income, your energy. Everything goes on pause — except the bills and the demands.
What hurts the most is not just the treatment or the fatigue — it's the disrespect. The refusal to listen. The implication that we are exaggerating, that we are less than, that our lives can be measured by productivity instead of pain.
How are we expected to "navigate the system" when just getting out of bed is a win? When we’re told to appeal, to wait, to explain again, and again, and again — alone?
What can we do? We can speak. Loudly. Clearly. Without shame. We can write for those who cannot. We can demand change, because we are not statistics. We are people whose lives are made harder by broken systems, not by illness alone.
And when one of us receives a letter — not of denial, but of help — we know how rare that is. How healing it is to be believed.
If you know someone going through this: don't ask how you can help. Just help. Call. Show up. Send groceries. Write the letter for them. Be the hand that the system never offered.
Because cancer is already too much. Let’s not let bureaucracy finish the job.
Source: Cancer, Bureaucracy, and the Fight to Just Be Heard
#chronic illness is not just the illness#it's the fight against the system#the fight to be heard and believed and to prove you aren't lying and to make someone do something dammit#it's the fight to make your body work AND make food AND make money AND fight insurance AND do all the other daily tasks of being human#it's the fight against the despair that it's so much easier for the medical establishment to just let you die#and the only thing stopping that is your persistence#medical#political

I really love exploring the push and pull of the WoL in Garlemald - everything is in flux, the power dynamics and layers of truth and fiction are all garbled, and nobody is quite comfortable. It's a very interesting playground.
It asks questions - who created the poster and how? Maybe a holdout group of resistance that didn't agree with the ceasefire? Why was she surprised by it? What stories were told of her and what portions are true or partially true? How did/does she attempt to show they're wrong?
I think your original point of how easy it is to reframe via propoganda definitely makes it through with more explanation! The timing makes a difference, and each WoL's relationship with Garlemald is different. My boy would probably shrug (he's a big glowing-eye au ra, he can't really blame people for finding a storied boogeyman inposing) or draw a moustache on himself as a way of showing he's not so intimidating.
Needless to say, finding a poster like this while walking through the ruins of Garlemald produced quite the negative mix of feelings. It's no wonder they were so scared when she first showed up. Ironic that they would burn it all down themselves, in the end. Even then, they refused to believe she was there to help.

Other bonus tips:
Keep your fresh ginger in the freezer. It will last pretty much forever and it's easier to grate frozen without getting those little fibers. If you're not about that life or don't want to wash a grater, 1 inch of fresh ginger is about 1-2 tsp grated fresh ginger, which is about 1/4-1/2 tsp of ground dried ginger, though the flavor will be less bright with dried.
One minced garlic clove is about 1/2 tsp minced garlic, which is about 1/8 tsp garlic powder. Again, less bright flavor, etc.
If you're eating from the rice cooker bowl, I recommend using a plastic or wooden spoon to avoid scratching the nonstick coating.

Guys, it got so much freaking worse. KOSA is bad, but SCREEN is even worse, somehow.
"Sen. Mike Lee has introduced the SCREEN ACT, a bill that applies the "harmful to minors" standard used to ban LGBTQ+ books and resources in schools and libraries and apply it nationally to the internet.
Any site that has any amount of material "harmful to minors" would be forced to employ surveillance tech (biometric scans, ID uploads, background checks) to prevent minors from accessing "pornography."
You will not be surprised to learn that this is backed by the Heritage Foundation.
Unlike some of the state age-verification laws, many of which are being challenged in court, SC will be enforced by the FTC, which has the ability to levy fines, raid business and freeze bank accounts. Yes, meaning that even non-for-profits like Ao3 will suffer.
This is something for all US users to keep on their radar. Call your reps, call your senators, and spread the word to protect our archive!"
- When talking with Republicans play up the fact that this would force Elon to implement age verification systems on X (yes do call it X during the call). Elon's been threatening to primary Republicans who stand in his way so there's fear of him. Also play up concerns about "Liberals" doxxing people or Chinese hackers.
- When talking with Democrats, play up the connections to Project 2025 and suggest voters will not be happy to see Democrats siding with it.

"In the beginning the live-action remakes were releasing 60 years after the originals. Then 30 years. Then 15 years. Netflix just announced that they're considering a Kpop Demon Hunters remake a month after that movie released. Marshal, within this decade we may be looking at a simultaneous release between an animated movie and its live-action remake."
