So over a month ago I dropped off tumblr without a notice but it only just occurred to me now that I should make a post notifying my mutuals where/how they can contact me off this site
My username on discord is erketu
I don't really have any intention of returning to tumblr, I've gone completely off the grid and it's worked wonders for me. I'd love it to stay that way
Don't be shy to reach out to me to chat, especially if you enjoyed my more elaborate attempts at analysis. Trust when I say that I have a lot more I'd love to share more but I've lost interest in tumblr and have for a while now amidst its plethora of issues, and thus can't justify a continued presence here. Adios!

In the absence of a clear and obvious angle to attack Bushnell’s protest, most likely due to his status as a serviceman that would make outright insulting him or suppressing the news itself scandalous, discussions on Western shores have now taken on the familiar framing of mental illness. In Time Magazine’s write-up of Bushnell’s death, the article finishes with a link to the suicide hotline, and asks readers to contact mental health providers if they are experiencing a “crisis.” Mark Joseph Stern, a writer at Slate, seemingly unasked, also wrote on Twitter/X:
“I strongly oppose valorizing any form of suicide as a noble, principled, or legitimate form of political protest. People suffering mental illness deserve empathy and respect, but it is wildly irresponsible to praise them for using a political justification to take their own life.”
Conviction does not exist to the American. To be willing to die in a selfless act for what they believe in only exists for those outside America's sphere of influence. Many will recall reporting on those who self-immolated in protest in Iran and in Russia for instance where this sort of approach, unwilling to engage with the root of its cause, would not even be entertained, let alone written and published with sincerity. The Arab Spring began with a self-immolation. The self-immolation of Buddhist monks in protest of South Vietnam’s persecution became defining images of the war and its corruption. Within America’s walls however, there is a belief, unspoken and ingrained from birth, that democracy allows for everyone’s voices to be heard and that its representatives are inherently inclined to respond to the people and their widespread wishes.
Desperation at inaction or complicity in terror and atrocity need not apply. Everyone incensed by their government to such an extent must simply have something wrong with them. To be able to go about one’s day knowing that children are screaming from the hunger that is eating their insides and that pregnant women are eating bread made from animal feed, and that the United States is supporting Israel’s creation of this famine, is apparently the real sign of well-adjustment.
Seamus Malekafzali, “The Words Burned Through His Throat: The Sacrifice of Aaron Bushnell,” February 26, 2024.

It's possible that someone before me has addressed this but I just wanted to point out that the conflict towards the end of chapter 539 wherein Kimcom turns the full stop of the subway door into a comma. This scene is obviously meant to be an on-the-nose representation for being unwilling to let a story end but the imagery as is its most literal meaning (with how readily ORV likens a story to being a life) harkens to the idea of a semicolon; the tattoo, or more specifically, its symbolism, in relation to movements regarding suicide prevention and awareness

hi, i don't know if you've seen the statistics for the arab.org clicks but in the last quarter of 2023, they generated $380 for unrwa - not a huge amount in context of palestinians who need much more than that to leave gaza, but nobody had to donate those dollars. those were generated. and generally, they raise ~$100 per quarter, with most of it coming from their own bridging the gap of donations to make it worth it. i got curious and looked at the stats yesterday and just thought i'd point it out because i feel like people don't see the results of the "daily click" and maybe this would prove that it is actually well worth it. wishing you well <3
thank you anon, that’s a really amazing point!! here’s a reminder to do your daily clicks.

sorry to say this but not every act of protest is meant to be palatable. actually scratch that, to protest is to disrupt, it's to inconvenience, it's to make you unable to ignore the protesters message, it's priority should never be its palability.

prev post lost traction, donos have stopped
i'm multiply disabled and struggling deeply with the shame of not being able to work. my body cannot take any stress of any kind. this is further exacerbated into a vicious cycle by how my emotional regulation and executive function are nonexistent thanks to years of abuse and neglect.
obviously, not having an income has ALSO been a major source of stress. i am constantly in an impasse with my own body and mind to survive.
goal for the rest of this month and March is still $1500. i have been stuck at $70 since February 18th and rent ($600) is due in 9 days.
i'm willing to sell 18+ content of myself and/or draw something in return. my friend is also offering art as a thank you.
ppal: ghostvoids
wishlist (any of the high priority items as well as food / drink would be IMMENSELY helpful)
literally any amount means a lot, thank you for all the support 💗
