With a slight grunt, Darcy rolled over onto her stomach with excitement, “I think that’s the best idea you’ve ever had, honest. You’re getting better at this,” she smiled, joking with him was something she excelled at. “So, any movie ideas? You do have popcorn, right?”

“That’s a good question,” he replied, a very slight smile on his face. “We could stay here, we could be lazy and have a movie day. Or – I don’t know, what do you want to do? You choose.”

“I 100% agree with you. That’s just -- that’s just insanity. One regular cone, you got it. So, any plans today? Or, are you just going to enjoy the sunshine?”

“Finally someone that agrees with me. Regular cone please.”

“Always. Don’t you forget it.” Darcy looked at him with a mischief sparkle, in the one eye she had opened and started to speak up, “So - what do we do now? We have all the time in the world today!” 

Jace stared for a moment, the beginnings of a smile creeping over his features, and then collapsed beside her. “Fine… you win,” he laughed lightly. “Somehow you always win.”

“Unlike cats, you only live once, so why not, right? I am always right. But I guess you’re just going to have to trust me.”

“Both of them together? Why not go a little crazy, right? I hope you’re right about how they taste, because I’ll take them both now.”

“All us girls are, unfortunately,” Darcy confessed, wiping her hands on the pink apron around her waist. “Well good news for her, I like her, too. She’s as adorable as adorable can get, that’s for sure. Aaron, likewise. I can promise you that you and your little girl there have been the best customer’s I’ve had all day. But, I’m Darcy.”

“Yes, she’s a very demanding little lady.” He laughed lightly and looked at Ellie who was too busy studying the young woman in front of them, to look back at Aaron. “She seems to like you. Although, I would be worried if she didn’t like the girl who brought her ice cream. I’m Aaron by the way, it’s nice to meet you.”

“Sounds like a solid plan - very thought out. Me? Well unfortunately for me, I still have a few more hours to kill here. And then I’m not too sure what’s next for me after that. It’s usually consists of reality tv, Cheetos Puffs and a beer. Nothing too fancy-schmancy for me.”

“You’re welcome. Thanks, I think I’ll come here everyday now to hear you say how friendly I am and of course get more free samples. Not really, my plan is walk my dog in the park and then watch a movie or something. You?”

“Well, I’ll just give you the samples for fun then, while I get your Coffee Coconut ready, how’s that sound? Good choice, by the way. Like I said, my own personal favorite, I promise you’ll love it. Would you like that in a cone, or a waffle bowl?”

“Sure, a sample would be great. Although, I think I’m going to pick the Coffee Coconut.”

“That’s slightly embarrassing, considering my books are a little -- well, all over the place, genre wise,” blushing, Darcy remembered one of the books she had checked out, and immediately felt like he knew her downfall, just from a book - ‘Single Is Not A Curse’. At 24, she just considered herself to be in a stable relationship, a real relationship. Not one that relied on a couple of drinks and appetizers to get her through the night. She thought maybe it wasn’t the men, but perhaps it could be her. That wasn’t the only single self-help book either, she had another and a cheesy romantic novel that she regrets checking out. “Well, I’m sure the books really tell you a lot about a person, don’t they?”

Dimitrie smiled at the girl, having recognized her face. In such a small town, working at such a small library, it was difficult not to remember faces, especially one belonging to a girl who had taken so many books. Lucas giggled, charmed by her wink. “T’ank you,” Lucas said as she held the door open for them. He nodded at her question. “I do, yes. It’s only been a week or so, but I really like it here. It’s cozy, and people are honestly more invested in the library here than anywhere I’ve worked before.” He smiled. “I remember you – well, I remember your books. I’m Dimitrie.”

“Come on! Can’t you just play hooky for like one day? One day isn’t going to hurt anyone.”

“I swear I’m not trying to get rid of you or anything, but I’m kinda –”

“You’re very welcome. Well, sounds like Ellie knows exactly what she wants, when she wants it. Ice cream and a day at the beach sounds perfect on a day like today.”

“Thank you,” Aaron said with a kind smile. “Uh, Ellie here has insisted we get ice cream and eat it down by the water so we can collect shells.”
