I’m sympathetic to the point that heat is harder to deal with in places that aren’t used to it and don’t have the infrastructure but Brits complaining about heat always sound like they think all Americans have air conditioning. Air conditioning is more common in the US but until recently a lot of people didn’t have it. Some people still don’t, especially if they’re poor. Yes it’s fairly easy to at least find an air conditioned store to duck into in the US now but within my parents’ lifetime that was not true outside the south, and the British are complaining about normal Midwest summer weather. I did have air conditioning at home and options to escape but I went to school in a building with no air conditioning and windows that didn’t open very far in hotter weather than the British heat wave. Cold winters are also normal in the Midwest. The only way “British houses are different because they’re built to keep heat IN” makes sense to me is if differences in availability and cost of heating fuel made Americans in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries less concerned about fuel efficiency so they weren’t built to keep as much heat in. Also worth noting there are a lot of older homes elsewhere in the UK but a lot of London is post-war buildings because a lot of the old ones got bombed.

Being overstimulated is such a weird thing to explain to people. Like "hey sorry, I'm not mad at you and this is nobody's fault and I'm not blaming anyone for it happening, I am aware this is a part of regular everyday life but I am mentally crumbling because There Have Been Things Happening nonstop for 5 hours straight back to back with no breaks, and I really need to sit down in complete silence for like 15-25 minutes, after which I will be completely fine and can proceed as normal. But if I'm not allowed to have that, I will resort to violence."
