One thing you might not know about me: In addition to being an unpaid social media intern for the world’s best coffee company, I am also a writer of non-social media, including books.
My newest book, The Anthropocene Reviewed, is a memoir masquerading as a book of essays, and today it comes out in paperback. It was the strangest and most joyful writing experience I’ve ever had–my first time trying to write as myself, and trying to understand the way I look at the world rather than imagining how someone else might look at it. I hope you like it.

hbd dick grayson
[id copied from alt text: a redraw of a meme styled like a twitter post from dick grayson. the caption reads: turning 23 tonight. let's get this fuckin party started! underneath it, dick grayson is sitting hunched over in the middle of a dirty apartment, miserable, with his head in hand. /end id]

Read the full comic here!
(I've given myself the quota of two new pages every bi-week, it might fluctuate depending on my schedule. But i'll try to maintain that pace!)

So, I've started a comic!
It's an adaptation of the song The First Symphony by Dave Malloy. I'll be hosting it externally, because posting longer form comics on tumblr is an Absolute Nightmare, but I will make sure to post a notice on my blog whenever it updates.

I put up your boyfriend for peer review and... yeah he's published in a journal now. You can purchase 1 month of access for $32.99, or you can log in through your institution for access. Sorry.

My favorite thing about fanfic authors is they can identify any gap in a canon timeline where characters are offscreen and exploit the ever living fuck out of it
They see a time skip of any length and go

hello! i’ve read a lot of your works on ao3 (the batfam ones) and i have to say, your writing is brilliant! i am also a writer and i want to improve, so i wanted to ask if you have any tips when it comes to writing? are there any books you’ve read that have helped you when it comes to writing? do you take any classes?
thank you!! 🤍
i don't take any classes! i actually haven't graduated from college, i go part time because full time school and full time (plus the puppies i train at home lol) job would kill me lol. when i was thirteen i applied for a scholarship to a summer camp for creative writing and then actually managed to get it, and that's the only formal education on writing i ever had, but i was thirteen, so most of what we did was If You Can Dream It You Can Do It :))
my tips are: read. read a lot. read things that are weird to you and read genres you don't like. like, yes, people can read whatever they want and that's fine, but also if you're trying to improve as a writer it will not help to stay in the same place embroiled in the same information. go read nonfiction. go read poetry. read novels hundreds of years old. read shit that's good and read shit that's bad. read shit that was written serially and then read shit that wasn't. if you're reading actively, everything you read will change how you write after. that's it. every other online list about What Makes A Good Novel and What Makes Good Prose is totally wrong because every "rule" of writing has a time and place to be broken with incredible success, so the only way to know how to break rules in ways that will serve your story is to get familiar, again and again, with how other people tried it.

I saw a poll about how many works you've published on Ao3 and so then I got curious. So let's try this.
How many WORDS have you published on Ao3???
i'm talking total word count that you can see if you look in your statistics.
