New Blog
Hiya.
It’s been 6 months and I’m finally getting to the core problem of my “problem”. If you suffer from depression &/or anxiety, you’ll know what I mean.
I have a new blog (darkcivet is still abandoned, btw). I realised my reasons for wanting nothing to do with tumblr were only about THIS blog (darkcivet). So my new blog will be very particular. No more shit posting (no plans to anyway). And focused on my fandoms - writing, mostly. It’ll grow soon.
If you follow me because of my Naruto and ATLA ships (mostly the former; not sure about the latter yet), please follow me over at my new blog, here: https://fallen-in-dreams.tumblr.com/
THIS IS NOW THE LAST TIME I’LL SIGN INTO THIS BLOG.  Sorry to the people who’ve followed me over the years (for disappearing like that), especially my mutuals. And thank-you so much. :)

Probably one of my favorite random things about LotR is the fact that
a) Pippin did a Gollum impression in the books
b) Pippin had never MET Gollum before that point and never would
c) yet it was an ACCURATE impression, as it startled and was recognized by the orc he was speaking to
d) the only possible explanation for Pippin Took’s accurate Gollum impression is this: Bilbo, while telling stories to the eager children, must have imitated Gollum perfectly

straight boys are weak and pathetic, queer girls walk into the ladies changing room and see ten women naked, do they stare? do they say something inappropriate? do they make them uncomfortable? no because they have the common fucking sense to recognise when a situation is sexual and that people deserve the most basic level of respect to not be harassed, yet here we are banning shorts and low cut tops in school because straight boys are weak and pathetic

Like R*ylos are like “Why do you spend so much time hating a ship” yet they dedicate so much time and energy to slandering Finn who has done literally nothing to warrant any slander.

I have a tricky question: how does one write a character who is canonically smarter than them? Like, this character is canonically a clever genius in politics and warfare and I... am Not. I don’t want to pull the whole BBC Sherlock thing where I dumb everything else down to make this guy look smart but I just cannot come up with any tactical plans or schemes for the plot that would seem even remotely like something he would do in canon; I KNOW he’d come up with something better and I’m stumped
Before I answer the question, just a request? Please don’t slag off other fandoms in your questions. There are fans of that show who read this blog and they might not appreciate your words.
As for how to write a great tactician? Steal from great tacticians. A lot of writing is actually research and when our characters are experts at something we don’t know, we need to put in the work to make that seem real.
For a genius in warfare, I’d recommend books like Sun Tzu’s The Art of War or (for a more modern and possibly easier read) Modern Military Strategy: An introduction by Elinor C. Sloan.
A classic for political strategy is Niccolo Machiavelli’s The Prince.
If you want to write someone smarter than everyone else in the room, you’re probably going to have to do some homework first. On the up side? You’ll be more prepared to uh… try to take over the world?

a teleporting cat. It’s just a regular housecat, but it appears in random places when you could have sworn you just saw it somewhere else
