She’s caught him out of the corner of her eye a couple of times, noticing him glancing her way and playing the old game of gaze tag amongst each other. He’s not sitting in her section, so she figures it doesn’t have much to do with needing anything. Still, when she finds a free minute, white sneakers walk across the diner to check in on him. “Hi there,” she greets with a warm grin and her buttery Southern accent. “How’s the food treatin’ ya? Can I get ya anything?”

   he felt like an idiot. it wasn’t that nicky went into the diner just to see if lindy was working -- it wasn’t like that, he wasn’t fucking stalking her -- but if his mind wandered to getting something to eat, and the diner was open, the male was more apt to go there instead of anywhere else. and, more times than not, he prayed not to get put into the blonde’s section. he knew he wouldn’t be able to handle looking like a fucking idiot trying to talk to her.      it had been a long time since somebody else had made him feel this hopeless. not since - ...well, that was a long time ago. echoes ago. the diner wasn’t too busy this time of night, and nicky was lucky enough to get a small booth to himself, trying his best not to watch the blonde waitress all that much -- while simultaneously having a hard time taking his eyes off of her. it was a struggle, seeing someone that beautiful, that charismatic, that kind.       someone far out of nicky’s league.       he’d finally managed to keep his attention on his food, the pile of papers to the right of it ( goddamn french tests to grade ), and the strawberry milkshake he’d ordered with his meal. it felt like it had only been a few minutes of focus before he heard that all-too-familiar southern accent catch his ears, and he glanced up, suddenly met with lindy herself right at his booth. face immediately going pale, nicky’s eyes widened, lips parting as his hand instinctively reached out -- promptly tipping the milkshake over onto the booth’s table.          “shit. fuck -- ” he let out, heart pounding in his chest, reaching to bring the glass back upright and grab some napkins to start cleaning it up. “i’m sorry, i got it.” the teacher apologizes, wiping up strawberry milkshake with white napkins, creating a light pink disaster right in front of lindy. “things were, uh... it was good until... i turned into a total fucking klutz.” nicky lets out a wry smile, avoiding looking at lindy, unable to believe that he actually did it. he looked like an actual idiot in front of her. what a great impression.
