Enter Kordell *I DO NOT CONDONE KIDNAPPING*
*In which, I fix their ages and everything makes less sense but, it's all actually canon!* Echo was sitting on her couch watching t.v. when she heard the slight click of the door unlocking. She didn't react thinking it was Amp returning from running errands. She stood and went to check it out as he hadn't moved or said anything. To her surprise, standing just inside her doorway was a scrawny copper haired kid. He couldn't have been more than early teens. He was also pointing a slightly shaking gun at her. She raised an eyebrow at him, inquisitive. "Who the fuck are you?" She asked bluntly. He glared at her. "Who the fuck are you?" He responded sharply. Echo couldn't help rolling her eyes. "The fuck are you doing here?" She asked alternatively. "Oh yeah," he replied. "I'm robbing you." He raised the gun and tried to will his hands to stop shaking. "Do you see where you are?" She asked mildly curious. "Kid, I've got $5 in nickels and dimes, a gift card for froyo with 50¢ on it and a fucking paperclip. The fuck did you expect?" She retorted. He frowned. "A paperclip?" He asked in confusion. She sighed. "Is that really what you should be concerned about?" With a quick leg sweep, she sent him to the ground, grabbed the gun and caught his flailing arms. She put the gun in her waistband and pulled him to his feet keeping a hold of both wrists. "Now what, kid?" He squirmed around trying to break loose but realised the futility a moment later. She led the kid to her and Amp's room. He struggled again but a sharp shake stopped him. Echo looked through the closet for a scarf. When she found one, she made a mild sound of success. Using the newly acquired scarf, she securely tied his arms behind his back. Now that her hands were no longer occupied, she closely scrutinized him. The first thing she noticed was how dirty he was.The kid was covered in dirt from head to toe, his clothes were wrinkled and probably perpetually stained. He had probably been in them for a while. His hair was greasy and dull, it looked like a dirty penny. The second thing she noticed was that he looked really tired. After that she noticed that his eyes were a bright spring green. She kept her observations to herself. The kid had remained silent while she inspected him. He figured that she'd call the cops, they'd come get him and he'd lose all freedom first in JDC then in an orphanage. He'd never see her again and be fine with it. She'd forget all about him in a week. Echo suddenly picked him up. He tried to throw his arms out for balance but because they were bound behind him couldn't. "What are you doing?" He screamed trying to thrash around. She ignored him for the time being and adjusted him over her shoulder. "We're going for a walk." She replied a moment later when they got back to the front door. She put one hand on his back for balance while her other one was texting Mattias, Frost and Rosalyn to meet her at the safe house because she found 'something cool.' They agreed making her grin. Unsurprisingly, on this shitty side of the city, no one mentioned the tied up kid on her shoulder. She arrived last as she was walking. When she walked into the house, she instantly had everyone else's attention. They were all greatly surprised to see that she was hauling a young teenager with her, said kid started thrashing and fighting again. "What the fuck is that?" Mattias asked in mild disbelief. Echo's wide grin did nothing to calm him. "He broke into my house, threatened me with a gun and tried to rob me." She stated nonchalantly. "So I kept him. Say hi to my new mascot." She paused realizing she didn't know his name. "What's your name, kid?" "Kordell," he responded pouting. "Say hi to my new mascot, Kordell." She restated grinning. She set him down gently on his feet. "Why'd you keep him?" Rosalyn snapped. "I had a bunch of change and a gift card for froyo with practically no money on it." She responded like it cleared every thing up. "You're aware that he's human right?" Frost asked honestly unsure. "You can't just keep him." Rosalyn stated. Echo pouted and wrapped her arms around his shoulders from behind. "I can too." She responded. "What about the kid's family? They're probably worried sick about him." Frost countered. Echo pouted more showing clearly that she hadn't thought about that. "My parents are dead. I don't have any family." Kordell stated bluntly. Echo slightly flinched and released him. The kid pretty much just sealed his fate. "Ha, see I can keep him." Echo stated triumphantly. "You can not keep him." Rosalyn responded again. By this time, Mattias knew that Echo wasn't going to lose this argument. He instead bent down a bit to look at Kordell. He was in the younger's personal space. Kordell backed up a bit so he was closer to Echo. Said woman was still saying that he was her mascot. It didn't make a lot of sense to him but the other two were groaning in exasperation. Kordell looked at the man in front of him. "She isn't going to hurt me?" He asked softly making sure that the others couldn't hear him. Matthias smile gently at him. "No, she isn't going to hurt you." He responded. Somehow, Kordell could tell that he was being honest. "She's not going to lose this argument either." He warned. Kordell surprised himself and the man he was talking to by smiling. "Do you want to stay with her?" Mattias asked the kid. If the kid really didn't want to stay, Echo wouldn't make him. Although they all knew that she wasn't above blackmail. Kordell looked at Mattias closely. "I don't know." Kordell responded quietly. Echo had won her argument seconds earlier and no one else had heard him over her victory cheer. Mattias stood up pulling gently on the scarf still binding Kordell. He grumbled multiple threats at it before giving up. "Echo, come untie your mascot. Your knots are a pain in the ass to undo." Mattie ordered. Echo rolled her eyes at his inability. It took her less than 5 seconds to unknot it. The kid rubbed his slightly sore wrists. "Thanks," he mumbled. Echo frowned a little. "You're welcome." She stated slightly concerned. "I'm going to borrow him for a little while." Mattias stated already leading him away by the shoulders. He made a slight motion to the kid's hair and clothes earning a nod from Echo. "Oh and have fun explaining him to Amp." He taunted while tossing something to her. She caught it reflexively. It was Mattie's cellphone and it was calling Amp. Echo yelped and hung it up. Mattias meanwhile had taken the kid to the bathroom. He tossed a towel and washcloth over his head. He gave the kid permission to use whatever he wanted in the shower and left to find him clothes. He dug through every dresser and closet in the house. He quickly realized that the only thing that'd fit him was what they still had of Echo's post rescue clothes. "Frostie," he called. "Only thing that'll fit him are Echo's clothes from right after we saved her and before she was a healthy weight again." He stated. Frost rolled his eyes. "I'll see if my little brother has something we can use. Put them on him until then." Frost responded. "Kay, but he's not gonna like it. We'll have to get him his own soon." "We? He's Echo's mascot. Let her figure it out." She was still annoyed that she hadn't stood a chance against Echo's logic. "Did you already forget? She flat out told us that she's got almost no money. Amp might have some but our favorite psychopath is flat broke." He didn't mention that she was their only psychopath. The shower suddenly stopped. Mattias quickly grabbed the clothes and approached the bathroom door. He knocked to warn Kordell who granted his entry. Mattie put the clothes on the toilet seat and left. Kordell stepped out of the shower having heard the door open and close again. He dried himself off before looking at the clothes. The boxers looked new and were way too big and the pants were rather feminine. The shirt was about four sizes too big. He pulled them on annoyed. He walked out of the bathroom still sulking. "Before you get mad, those pants were the only ones that looked like they would fit. The shirt is mine and at least the boxers aren't used. Frost's going to see if he can get something from his brother you're about the same age." Mattias defended himself. "Also your drowning in that shirt and look rather ridiculous, it'd probably look better without it." Kordell took his advice and removed the very oversized shirt. He did look better despite being a bit thin. A few seconds later, "holy shit. Your hair is really fucking shiny. We gotta show Echo." Mattias grabbed his arm dragging him to the living room where Echo was searching through their considerable collection of books with Frost. She looked up first as she had heard them first. "Jesus fuck, that's my mascot? The fuck happened to his hair?" She asked getting up. She was careful to step around the books littering the floor. When she stood in front of them, she ran her hands through his hair tousling and out right playing with it. She grinned when she realised that it was actually really fucking soft too. "Alright, Kid, you hungry?" She asked. He stared at her wide eyed. "Mattie, if he's hungry you'll have to cook. Echo's food may be rather amazing but right now we can't afford the repercussions of it." Frost stated. Kordell cowered behind Echo. He knew that this man and the other woman were arguing against him staying. Frost looked up from his book and smiled at the kid. "Oh, welcome to the team, kid." Kordell was unsure about all of this. Earlier he had been too confused by being 'kept' but now he was thinking that if something seemed too good to be true, it usually was. After all things were going a little too well. He broke into someone's house, she caught him and now he was being bathed, clothed and fed. He put his guard up. This whole thing seemed fishy now. His stomach suddenly grumbled stopping him from rejecting the offer of food. Echo chuckled and pushed Mattie towards the kitchen with one hand and gently pulled Kordell with the other. Rosalyn was sitting in the kitchen eating a piece of leftover cake. Kordell looked at her cautiously. Echo frowned again as the kid stayed beside and behind her. "Welcome to the team, Kordell." Rosalyn welcomed. Echo fist pumped deeming it a win. Mattias was already partway through making Kordell's food. "I'll make sure you get some of that cake." Echo whipered, conspiratorial. Kordell felt better having watched the man take bites of the food to taste test it. He also had to admit that the cake looked really good. Frost walked into the kitchen throwing a shirt at Echo and motioning to the kid. "You still have to tell Amp." Frost reminded. Echo pouted, nodded and gave her old shirt to Kordell who immediately put it on. "Yeah, that's fair but I'll do it later. I already texted him and found out that he won't be back for a little while." They all knew that Amp was the only one that had a chance at countering her logic. Kordell was shoving the food into his mouth a little too quickly. "Slow down a little bit, kid, you're going to choke." Mattias warned gently. "No one's going to take it from you." Kordell obligdingly slowed down still wary. Once he finished eating the food, Echo swept the plate away and set a paper plate with a piece of cake down front of him. He absolutely loved cake. It was his favorite food. When he finished with that, Echo patted him on the shoulder. "Come on," she requested. He was confused but got up none-the-less. She directed him towards the door but he firmly stopped. "We're going back to my place. Amp will be back soon so we can beat him there and maybe I can explain to him in a way that'll let you stay." Echo explained. Kordell looked a bit anxious but allowed Echo to take him back. They walked together back to Echo's run down house. Echo opened the door for him and closed it behind him. He flinched a bit at the door closing. He whirled around feeling trapped. It was different before there had been others and there had been people outside who would probably react if he'd screamed. Now they were in her house again and no one outside cared about some sewer kid. He knew he could scream until his throat bleed but no one in this shitty part of the city would come save him. He wouldn't help anyone either there was no way of knowing it wasn't a trap. He took a hesitant step back. Echo noticed his demeanor shifted towards flighty. She was concerned and confused. He had shifted away from Mattias but he was a tank. She watched as his alarm grew before shifting down the foot and a half difference. "Kordell, it's okay. I'm not going to hurt you." She told him in that soothing tone she used for her other job. He flinched again. "What do you want?" He asked hesitantly. She tilted her head inquisitive. "Why didn't you turn me in? I've been caught twice before the first one was a pickpocketing failure and the guy nearly broke my wrist while waiting for the cops. I kicked him pretty hard and bit him to make him let me go then ran. The second time was a different break in. The two in the house beat me pretty bad then left me in the trash-strewn alley." He said too confused to care that he might be giving her ideas. She already wanted to keep him whatever that meant. "They hurt you for trying to survive?" Echo's voice was hollow. She pulled him closer to her and started poking and prodding at him. He squirmed and tried to pull away terrified that she really was going to start hitting him. "Stop squirming, shit, I should have asked Ro to do a check up for you. How long ago did that happen?" She asked her voice still not back to normal. He stopped moving immediately. Amp parked Echo's car and got out. He was confused why Echo had been wondering when he'd return. She knew he was buying her groceries, a new toaster and looking at new stoves since she had blown it up, again. He was going to try to convince her to get a fire pit instead. Amp walked up to the door and as he was reaching to open it noticed the keyhole was a little deformed. He frowned. It had been normal when he left he was sure. A million worst case scenarios flew through his mind. Echo asking when he'd be back and the door's new deformity painted a bad picture. Either Echo was going to be gone or she had been asking to find out how much time she had to scrub the blood off the walls and floor. He braced himself and slowly let Echo's front door swing open. His hand flew to his keychains but instead of some scene from a horror movie he was greeted by Echo bent over and talking gently to some kid. A million questions sprung up in place of the worst of the worse scenarios. He blinked a couple times hoping that maybe between his eyes closing and them opening the scene would be replaced by something that made sense. No dice, the strange scene remained. Echo had turned to look at him like a deer in headlights, eyes wide, mouth open a touch of fear and not breathing. The kid was revealed to maybe not be a kid instead likely a really young teenager his expression matched Echo's pretty well and it'd be funny if it weren't so confusing. In a flash, Echo had shifted to her feet, arms pushing the younger behind, and her teeth bared in growl. He took a step back. "Echo?" He asked in confusion. She used to growl at him every time he walked into her house. She wasn't used to people just walking in. He had offered to knock but she had refused saying that she'd have to get used to it eventually. She had. And yet here she was growling at him again. She straightened. "Sorry, you surprised me." She stated as she got her instincts under control. "It's fine. Who's that?" He asked gesturing towards her, the kid was still behind her. She gave a nervous laugh and Amp was left more confused. "Who's who?" She asked, laughing again. She's hiding him but why? "Echo," he stated his voice just a touch hard. Her shoulders slumped for a second. She straightened again soon though, plastered a smile on her face and cleared her throat. "Amp, this is Kordell." She stated stepping out from in front of him with a small flourish. The kid, Kordell, waved at him timid. "He's mine due to unexpected circumstances, he's going to be staying with us." She cleared her throat again gently. The way Amp heard her statement it sounded more like ' he's mine, due to unexpected circumstances he's going to be staying with us.' It made the circumstances about him staying there instead of about her suddenly having a kid. Amp paused. That meant he overestimated his age. That meant she has a kid. His mind spun in circles for a while trying to come to terms with the fact that his girlfriend had a child. Echo frowned at Amp's reaction. He had gone from confused to hyperventilating too fast. She didn't understand. "Amp, easy calm down take deep breaths." Her voice started panicky but shifted to soothing and calm. Her hands flew to his shoulders but he brushed them off and staggered a step away. Echo ignored the hurt that bloomed and focused on Amp. She stepped forward again knowing too well that he was past the point of being calmed with words alone. Her hands slowly returned to his shoulders and pulling him up a bit. "Sshhh, take deep breaths, come on, with me take a deep breath, it's going to be okay." Echo continued mindless soothing babble as Amp painstakingly slowly relaxed. Kordell watched the interaction with confusion. He didn't understand anything with these strange people. The woman was kind, the first man had gotten him a shower and made him food, the other man and woman welcomed him to their 'team' which he didn't understand either and now this man was having a panic attack. Kordell was very confused. He'd admit that the lady, Echo he thought, could have explained a bit better but none of the others had responded like this. They fed him, put him in clean clothes, let him shower, complimented him and even gave him cake. Kordell still wasn't sure what payment they wanted from all of this. He was hoping though that they wouldn't hurt him too badly. So far aside from the meeting with the floor and being tied up for a while, they had been the nicest people he had met other that his parents that he barely remembered. He continued watching as the man, Amp he guessed, calmed down and relaxed in the woman's arms. He suddenly thought that it was really unfair that he had given his name but the didn't give theirs. It took a minute to brush the thought away. The man stepped away from the woman but continued looking at her. He looked confused. Kordell was confused too. Neither of them moved for a minute. "Are you okay?" Kordell asked manners from a different life breaking through. The man recoiled probably having forgotten he was there. "Yeah, I'm okay. My name's Amp. Yours is Kordell right? It's nice to meet you." Amp responded. "Yeah, nice to meet you too, Amp." Kordell responded. Echo at that moment seemed to realize that she never introduced herself. "Holy shit, Kid, my name's Echo, the other woman you meet earlier was Rosalyn, the guy I was arguing with was Frost and the other guy was Mattias." Echo stated seeming surprised. Kordell blinked at the sudden inflow of information. Amp seemed confused again. "He's already met everyone else? Your kid doesn't know your name?" Amp asked. "Yeah, after what happened I took him to the safe house to get him cleaned up and fed. Wait kid? Mine? Kordell's like 11." "13," Kordell interjected. "The point is that I'm not old enough to have a kid your age. Kordell broke in while I was watching TV. I decided to keep him and he doesn't have any family. I'm not going to just turn him back out onto the streets." She walked over to him and wrestled him out of her shirt. Kordell was caught off guard and thus didn't put up much fight. "You can count the boy's ribs and see his spine," she spun him around. "It's not that bad but it's bad enough. I'm not going to pretend I'm capable of this but I kind of feel responsible and I really feel like I'm going to like this kid. I don't want him to get hurt again. There's some strange as protective urge that I can't understand. Amp, let me keep him. If I start fucking up, we'll find somewhere better for him to live." She implored. She wasn't begging yet but she would if it'd help. Amp stared at her for a minute before looking at the boy who had been turned around again but hadn't asked for his shirt back. Kordell stared right back neutral, like he didn't care either way but Amp noticed hope in his eyes and how hard he was biting his lip. Amp's eyes softened. "Do you want to stay here?" He asked Kordell. He glanced away thinking about it. "What do you want? I learned fast that nothing comes free. You've done a lot so what price am I going to have to pay for it?" He asked. Echo's thoughts turned dark and mean as her hands wobbly removed themselves from his person and returned the shirt. Whoever taught this kid is due for a world of pain. Someone actually tried to... Her thoughts halted not wanting to think about it. "You don't have to do anything, Kid, we aren't like that. The only thing I want you to do," Kordell's full body flinched, "is to be happy and let me know if anyone tries to touch you like that, because I will fucking kill them." Her voice turned menacing for a moment. Kordell spun around and gaped at her. "That. What. I. Thank you." Kordell stated, it wasn't payment enough for their kindness. If they really meant it, he didn't think she could fake the emotions in her voice, he would happily do anything for them.

Accidents (a tiny thing I wrote)
This is one of those things that was supposed to be part of something bigger.
Echo, Mattias, Amp, Frost, Rosalyn and Kordell are hanging out on a cliff above the sea. Kordell is Echo's little brother. Other than a 12 year old Kordell, their ages range from 15 to 18. Echo is 18 and Kordell's older sister. They are all exhausted. They all call Kordell, kid due to him being young and hanging around them a lot. Amp and Echo are dating. Mattias is very protective of his friends. Kordell goes over the side of the cliff. COMMENCE WITH THE ACTUAL STORY!
She was almost to the edge Kordell went over before he even splashed. Adrenaline pounded through her pushing her even faster when she heard his splash.
"Echo, help," Kordell half screamed half gurgled. Panic pushed her over the edge of the cliff before she remembered that he was incapable of swimming. She landed close to him and wrapped her arms around his suddenly fragile seeming chest heaving him above water just long enough for him to catch his breath before the adrenalin abandoned her and they both went under. Kordell inhaled water as she suddenly went limp. She kept a hold of him but there was no way she would be able to get them around the cliff and back to land. They went under water again due to a wave. Mattie and Amp leapt off the cliff when they noticed Echo go under. Mattie grabbed Kordell around the shoulders tugging the kid to land. Amp caught Echo around the waist and pulled her just behind Mattias. She didn't struggle, helping Amp get them back with failing strength. When they were almost there, Mattias noticed the kid wasn't breathing making him push even harder to get to land.
Rosalyn was running towards them and could clearly see Mattias performing CPR on Kordell and ran faster to help them. She saw Amp holding Echo back who was coughing up water helplessly but steadfastly watching Kordell and Mattias. She choked on the water and started dry heaving for a painful minute. Rosalyn turned back to Mattias and Kordell to see how it was progressing but the kid must not have started breathing yet. She arrived, just noticing Frost beside her, then in front of her pulling Mattias away while Rosalyn took over for the CPR. Echo was suddenly much closer but Amp grabbed her before she could get in Rosalyn's way.
"Easy, Echo, it's alright. Rosalyn will bring him back." Amp comforted as well as he could while holding onto her tightly so she wouldn't get psycho protective while Rosalyn was trying to resuscitate him. Kordell would come back to them. He had to. Echo gave a screech and tried to get to him. Amp just held on tighter. "Shh, I'm sorry. He'll be okay."
Nothing was happening in Echo's mind. She couldn't think past her intense focus on Kordell. He still wasn't breathing. She clawed at the ground trying to get closer. She just wanted to be closer. She couldn't help him if she couldn't reach him. She growled harshly as Rosalyn stopped chest compressions and punched him hard on the chest. She did it again and the kid jolted. The next thing she knew he had rolled over and was puking up water. Somehow, she escaped Amp and pulled Kordell to her. She gently brushed her hands through his hair. He whined and curled into her as much as his weakened body would let him. He was still coughing up water, splashing it across her but she didn't care in the least.
"Shh, easy, kid, slow breaths," she rubbed her hand across his back. Less than two feet away was the puddle of watery vomit but she didn't care. She wasn't sure how much she could/ should move him. She didn't even care that it was possible that he could puke on her. He was shivering in her lap and fading in and out of consciousness.
"S-sorry..." he broke off to cough water onto her some more. "I slipped..." he coughed some more. "I didn't mean to..." more watery coughs. "I'm sorry, Echo..." he went back to full body coughs that shook both of them. Echo growled softly hating that he actually expected her to be mad.
"Shhh, it's alright. You did great. You were fucking awesome." she told him in that voice that's reserved for when she's working. He stopped coughing. She was furious with herself. She turned her attention back to him as his breathing slowed until she knew he had fallen asleep on her. She growled at the hands that tried to take her fucking kid brother from her.
They stay there like that for almost an hour with her slowly calming down from almost losing him. It wasn't until she was completely calm that she noticed the others were even there or that they had been sitting on the beach soaked to the bone. She also noticed the ambulance and emergency workers that were sitting in the sand as well looking a strange combination of annoyed and accepting. She let Mattias pick Kordell up for only as long as it too for her to stand up then pulls him back into her arms. She carried him to the ambulance ignoring Ro and the emergency medics who were complaining about hurting herself and the various cuts and gashes littering her form.
