“Being a kid’s show is not an excuse!”
When I hear this argument, it’s usually divided into one of two camps:
1.) “Kids aren’t stupid, they can handle better plot”, or
2.) “And think of the bad example this is setting for kids!”
My response to both of these camps is the same:
You’re absolutely right, kids are not stupid. But they don’t think like adults either.
You know what my little cousins’ favorite part of Miraculous is? It’s not the plot. It’s not the lore. It’s not the love square or even the action sequences.
It’s Chat Noir’s transformation.
Why? Because it looks like his tail explodes out of his butt. They find that absolutely hilarious.
That’s not to say that kids can’t or don’t necessarily enjoy good lore and plot when it’s presented, but they aren’t generally too fussed about it when it’s not.
As for “bad example” specifically, I totally understand where this concern is coming from. I really do. The problem is that most of the things y’all are considering “bad examples” are things kids will hardly pay attention to.
A little girl will not watch Ladybug’s ice transformation and think “oh, she has a tiara. Guess I’m supposed to be pretty and not strong.” She’ll think: “Oh wow! New suit! Cool!”
A child will not watch Marinette’s obsession with her crush and think “oh, I guess stalking is totally normal and ok!” He or she’ll think: “Haha, look at this character getting into awkward situations!”
etc.
All these deep issues y’all are extracting are not things that a child will typically take from a cartoon. Kids simply haven’t developed that level of critical thinking yet. The only people taking umbrage with those kind of things are the older teen and adult fans. You know–not the target demographic.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with watching or liking a show when you’re outside its demographic. Not at all!
But don’t be shocked when a kid’s show is treated like a kid’s show.
It’s ok for a kid’s show to be predictable.
It’s ok for a kid’s show to be formulaic or episodic.
Most kids won’t give a crap about the “deeper issues” like whether or not Marinette’s obsession is taken “too far”–in fact, they probably don’t even consider them. It’s simply not on their radar.
No, kids are not stupid.
But they don’t think like adults.
And therefore, yes, being “just a kid’s show” is actually a legitimate reason for not delivering on everything adults value in a show.
Is it nice when it still delivers those kind of things? Absolutely! I adore me some good lore- or plot-based episodes for sure!
But is it inherently “bad writing” when it doesn’t? No. Not necessarily.
And certainly not worth getting worked up over.

Conversation
Kyouya: So. Who broke the teapot? I'm not mad, I just wanna know.
Haruhi: ...I did. I broke it.
Kyouya: No. No you didn't. Hikaru?
Hikaru: Don't look at me. Look at Mori-senpai.
Mori: If it matters, probably not, but Kaoru was the last one to use it.
Kaoru: Liar! I don't even drink that crap!
Haruhi: Okay let's not fight. I broke it. Let me pay for it Kyouya.
Kyouya: No. Who broke it?
Honey: Kyo-chan… Tama-chan's been awfully quiet.
Tamaki: REALLY?!
[Everyone starts arguing]
Kyouya: I broke it. I burned my hand so I dropped it. I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a pig head on a stick. Good. It was getting a little chummy around here.
