The young king stood atop the hill, gazing out across his lands to the encampment of the enemy invading. He knew what he needed to do.
They had been an unstoppable force, so far. They had already caused so much death and destruction. He knew what he needed to do.
One of his generals walked to him, and worriedly said "My liege, are you.. sure? They outnumber us 20 to 1."
He closed his eyes and thought of his past.
He thought of his kingdom.
He thought of his home.
He thought of the parent who used to have this role.
He thought of the legacy he now has.
He thought of his husband, his children.
The general asks once more, "My liege? This is a madman's plan..."
He thought of the death he'd seen their enemies cause, the destruction wrought.
He knew what he had to do.
He opened his eyes, and spoke.
"They will fall here. We will not lose."
The general just nods, still looking uncertain. After a moment, they depart.
He knew what he had to do.
The young king lifted his sword and stepped forward, towards the enemy.
He knew what he had to do. And he knows he is strong enough to do as he must.
