The boy almost jumped from his bed to the ceiling with how startled he was from Father Sebastian’s mere presence, like he expected to be yelled at before calming down and looking at him worriedly. The look could tell a story: one full of a lifetime of suffering and loss, but tries so hard to be strong. “H-hi.” the boy croaked out weakly, rubbing his sore throat before sitting up and rubbing his sides. “I-im sorry to disturb you, s-sir.. b-but w-where am I?” He asked softly, covering his swollen eye and cheeks like he hoped not to repulse the kind man with his brutalized face.

A small figure tries to make themselves as small as possible going into the church, ducking their dirty mass of dark hair low while sneaking in. They were shivering, trembling in fear and pain from the cuts on their arms and legs with clothes that barely fit on their thin frame. This small person ducked into the dark corners of the church to curl up tightly into themselves, sobbing quietly and trembling.

The priest was in the church, reading one of his favorite scriptures in an empty pew all by himself while ignoring the sudden loud slam from the church doors.

Just as he was about to flip the page he couldn’t help but feel a tingle run down his spine. “Hmm?” Sebastian could sense that something felt amiss and starts to glance around the area he was in. “...Hello?” No response. “Did someone come to this holy establishment and is afraid to speak up?” Again, nothing but silence. It was then that he quickly picked up on the soft weeping, feeling another tingle in his spine once more.

He calmly placed the Bible down and stood up. Sebastian begins walking down the aisle slowly, his footsteps echoing softly inside. Just as he was about to head to the end, the priest slowly turns his head and sees a strange figure hiding amongst the shadowy corner. His eyes widen in shock. 

Sebastian quietly made his way through the empty fourth pew section to get to them and stops in front of them. “...Oh my!” He quickly takes a knee. “Are you alright?” he asked the stranger.

A day would pass before the young teen could awaken again, flinching from the rays of light pouring through the stained glass and assaulting their working eye. For a brief and terrifying moment, they feared that they were back at that horrible house their “parents” lived in, still locked away in the basement after the recent passing of their beloved half sister and the entire escape was all but a dream. This moment stopped when feeling a shirt covering their thin frame like a long dress, clean and smelling of fresh laundry and their cuts cleaned up and patched.

The young one carefully sat up on the bed they were placed in and looked around slowly, seeing blank stone walls, large glass windows, and an old wooden door that separated the boy away from whatever is outside. “I-... I made it...” they mumbled softly, tearing up slowly as a smile threatened to tear his lips. “I-I got away..!” they muttered confidently, but quickly silenced themselves in fear of being found awake..

The small stranger curled up tightly into a ball when hearing the man approach, shaking and sobbing louder as they babbled incoherently for mercy and “not taking them back there”. A small dangling slanted cross made of metal was around their thin ankle, dirtied by blood... Dark violet eyes look up at Sebastian tearfully, a black eye slowly forming and cheeks yellow from bruising. “P-please... I-I don’t w-wanna go back..” the figure croaked out painfully, their throat dry like they have been screaming forever before their eyes roll back and fall unconscious in the isle.
