Rapture Market Closes It’s Doors Over Hack

Over the past several weeks DNM users have been unable to access the popular Darknet Market known as Rapture Market. Visiting any of the official Rapture Market links loads nothing beyond the generic “Down for Maintenance” page.

With little news emerging from the site admin’s, there has been plenty of speculation and FUD across various forums in regards to Rapture Market’s status.

2 weeks ago a post was made in Dread which offered some hopes of seeing a reemergence of the market in the near future. However, that glimmer of a return for Rapture Market has been silenced given a recent post by Rapture Market’s Head of Staff, LegalAmigo.

Dream Market Updated with New Features and Multi-Language Support

Dream Market, the most popular and longest running darknet market, has recently launched a fairly significant update to their website. It’s not a very obvious visual update and was not mentioned in an announcement on the Dream Market news page. Though it was a seemingly big change that includes a few important new features.

Some of the changes our staff has noticed is a pretty major one. Dream Market, which was only available in English since its creation, now offers support for multiple languages. Dream Market is now also available in Serbian, Swedish, German, Hindi, Arabic, Italian, Turkish, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, and French. Now one of the few Darknet Markets to do so.

The language can be changed from the main login page. This feature does not alter the language of the individual listings but does translate the site itself, opening the door for vendors to make listings in different languages to attract shoppers worldwide.

Dream Market Security Features

The next noticeable update is a few added security features. One is a user rating which is available on a users profile. It’s a simple thumbs up/thumbs down choice and is available on the profiles of all users, vendors and buyers alike.

This may have been created to tackle the growing issue of padded feedback of vendors who are scamming users. It’s not a bulletproof solution, but it’s something. It could temporarily throw off the bots used to automate the feedback padding and provide a visible overall rating for the time being as honest negative feedback is often buried by the fake positives.

The second security feature, which has been available now for several months but still worth mentioning is a “last active” time stamp.

The timestamp is displayed as the first thing a user sees after logging in. It displays the time and date that the account was accessed…a very nice addition for users who are too dense or lazy to protect their account with 2-FA (don’t be that person).

Dream Market Cosmetic Features

Next is a cosmetic feature, which seems to be a popular one among all web designers. It’s the option to view the website in dark mode, which is arguably softer on the eyes compared to the traditional dark text on a white background.

You can access this feature by clicking the small link that says “Dark Mode” in the bottom left side of the page.

Lastly is a less noticeable update. A slight upgrade to the core code and UI of the website. While not a major alteration, the site does seem to respond noticeably faster than previously.

This update did not include any major layout or design changes. Something that just about everyone has been anticipating given Dream Market’s heavily outdated design and popularity. Maybe sometime in the near future that will change, but until then it’s must be somewhat reassuring for its users to see some new development into Dream Market.

Olympus Market Has Likely Exit Scammed

As we move into day 5 it’s become apparent that Olympus Market performed the same tricks as Dream Market’s Monero wallet. Go offline for some general maintenance then mysteriously vanish leaving behind clueless support staff and empty bank accounts…

but in hindsight… we all pretty much saw that coming, right? Well…everyone besides Ori and Apollo, who you can’t help but feel at least a little bad for. Ori and Apollo are two of Olympus Market’s forum moderators. Both were sidelined and left in the dark by the Olympus Admins who as of today, have not been heard from in nearly a week.

The issues began last week when vendors at Olympus Market noticed their orders were not finalizing. 6 days ago Olympus published a post in Dread, blaming the same Monero bug that allegedly drained Dream Market’s hot wallet as the reason for the finalize issues, while the rest of the blame was pushed onto strained server resources due to a phisher running a reverse proxy off their site.

The following day the main links for Olympus went completely offline, eventually, this was followed by the Olympus Forum. While we noticed a couple old mirrors of Olympus were still loading fine, those too went dark just a couple days ago. Around that time Olympus was stripped off the DeepDotWeb Top Markets list after receiving the news on Olympus’s current status from HugBunter of Dread.

The forum moderator Ori contacted dread stating “Since today the site is down. All communication channels are dead. There is no way for me to contact any of them.” it was then that the Admin of Dread declared they officially consider Olympus Market an exit scam, based on the lack of an official response from the Olympus Admin and because of the information shared from the Olympus Forum moderator.

Our Admin (DNetSEO) also attempted to reach the admins of Olympus a few days ago, and we also have not received a reply..but that was expected. To be perfectly frank, I figured Olympus would have vanished way sooner than they actually did. Mostly because of how they Just kind of showed up on Reddit last January with a professional looking website, which functioned perfectly and had an overall professional appearance, minus some security issues. What got our attention was the Admin’s claim that their team was darknet market veterans with years experience in managing darknet markets…yet nobody seemed to know who these people were, and by not disclosing the markets they helped within the past I pegged them with red flags from day one.

After about a month of being online, we at Darknet Markets News reached out to the admin of Olympus with a request for an interview. Not only did they agree, they seemed eager to do it. Free advertising. All was going fine until DNetSEO emailed them the list of interview questions which resulted in them dropping all contact with us for over a week before sending us an email claiming they were not interested… due to u reasons he would not mention.

Apparently, DNetSEO did some digging and discovered several key indicators that some of the Olympus admins/staff were involved with a previous darknet market or darknet markets that had pulled an exit scam. While as per usual the interview was filled with idiotic questions we ask Darknet Market Admins during interviews, like “If you HAD to have sex with a pokemon which one would it be and why?”(Just an Example), but it also included A FEW SERIOUS questions about the red flags DNetSEO found. I gather that scared them off. And because of that, we are now too hesitant to ask good interview questions out of fear of the Admin becoming uncomfortable and canceling on us.

Beyond that, there are other Olympus related reports buzzing in the Dream Market forum. Allegedly Olympus Market Admins are using their customer’s login credentials to access accounts on other markets to bleed their wallets dry.

I won’t say “They kind of had it coming for re-using passwords and not using 2FA login”. So be smart. If are guilty of re-using the same on multiple sites then please take a couple minutes right now and go update them. Also set up and secure your accounts with 2FA.

For the new Olympus refugees looking for an alternative darknet market, there are two recommended options. One is for those looking for an established market with lots of options, Dream Market is the by far the biggest. Though there are several complaints about shady support moderators and funds disappearing from peoples accounts. couple options. Is it possible that Olympus could jump back online tonight or tomorrow? Sure, of course, it is. Many people had assumed Rapture had pulled an exit scam after they were crippled for over a week by an aggressive DDoS attack. But, I doubt that’s the case given the entire galaxy of red flags which surrounds Olympus. But I also doubt this is the last time we hear from them. I estimate within the next two years they return to the DNM grind with Olympus Market donning a fresh coat of paint and re-branded under another cliche and meta title like Wolfenstein3D Market or HansagoraReloadedv3.1.

Major Dream Market Vendor, MH4LIFE Busted in Operation Darkness Falls

“the most prolific dark net fentanyl vendor in the United States and the fourth most prolific in the world” announced the Press Release published late last night by the United States Department of Justice.

Back in late June, the United States Federal Authorities revealed a massive sting operation that specifically targeted darknet market dealers. Soon afterward over 50 darknet market vendors were arrested and charged in a lengthy operation that spanned several states and involved many federal law enforcement agencies.

But it was not until last night that the name of this massive operation was unveiled to the public, Operation Darkness Falls. This was shared in the same press release that focused on the arrest of the San Antonio couple Matthew and Holly Roberts, better known by their Darknet Market Vendor name, MH4LIFE.

MH4LIFE has been a familiar face for the DNM scene, with a transaction history starting on Silk Road back in 2011. Since then, MH4LIFE has remained reputable vendor account that has conducted business on Dream Market, AlphaBay, Darknet Heroes League, Nucleus Market and other popular Darknet Marketplaces. Allegedly their reputation was glowing for providing a wide array of high-quality drugs, and there provide highly praised customer service.

However, it was clear from the press reports that what put a gigantic target on the Robert’s was their decision to sell fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid which has led to an alarming rate of overdose fatalities in the United States. According to the Justice Department, MH4Life was the most prolific darknet market vendor of fentanyl in the US, and the fourth most known in the world at the time of their arrest.

Charges for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and other charges were filed against Matthew Roberts and Holly Roberts when the two were apprehended back in April. From 2011 to 2018, the Robert’s distributed various fentanyl analogs, cocaine, MDMA, LSD, heroin, meth, cannabis, oxys, xanax, and more across various marketplaces. Often under different vendor names. The names mentioned in the press release include MH4LIFE, MRHIGH4LIFE, FASTFORWARD, and TRAPPEDINTIME.

When we checked into the reported vendor accounts we discovered MH4LIFE’s Dream Market account was still visible (although marked as banned) and had an impressive rating of 4.89/5 , and over 4,000 verified transactions between Dream Market, Nucleus, Agora Market. But what really stuck out was the most recent update on MH4LIFE’s profile which indicated that they were in trouble, and cautioned customers that addresses and packages may have been compromised.

“Code Red. Change your drop spots immediately. This is all I can say. Take the loss and leave negative fb. Assume adress and packs have been compromised. B Do not send messages or inquire about past orders delivered. Please trust and cut ties. This tragic 4 all. 🙁

The vendor account on Dream Market where the above warning was published shows that their account was banned in May and the last time anyone had logged into the account was dated April 25, 2018. One troubling thing our team has noticed in the Press Release is it originally claims the couple was arrested in April of this year but goes on to mention the couple operates their vendor accounts until May 12, 2018. While it may just be a simple error, that’s still worth noting.

It was also mentioned that the Robert’s utilized very professional OPSEC methods when conducting business. They kept their messages and devices encrypted, they purchased all of their postage from third parties with cryptocurrency and used glow bracelets and other objects as decoys in every order.

The Roberts would send their crypto to their digital currency exchanger for cleaning and to receive fiat in exchange. This may mean their arrest was tied directly to the honeypot laundering service which Law Enforcement took over and controlled for over a year. Between the laundering service honeypot, and the tens of thousands the Federal Authorities budgeted for blockchain analysis software, it’s clear that LE has a new set of tools and methods to track darknet vendors and shoppers.

Over 50 Darknet Vendors Identified in Massive US Sting Operation

June 26th, 2018 the Department of Defense published a press release announcing one of the largest dark web related sting operations to date. According to the press release the operation resulted in dozens of arrests spanning across the United States, and lead to the seizure of a galaxy of drugs, firearms, and crypto-currency and included several law enforcement agencies.

Law Enforcement has been changing the way they tackle crime related to the darknet, as we saw last year with Hansa Market and AlphaBay Market, and the tactic employed this time around is another first. Between the anonymity provided through Tor, Bitcoin, VPN, tails, and other anonymity tools and services meant to provide a layer of protection to darknet buyers, markets, and vendors, Law Enforcement agents are pressed to find creative new methods to unmask their targets. The release revealed that the primary tactic employed this time around consisted of a cryptocurrency laundering service.

The DOJ Press Release revealed that law enforcement agents apprehended a cryptocurrency exchanger named Nicholas J Powell who operated a bitcoin laundering service back in October 2016. With Powell’s cooperation, Law Enforcement was able to gain control of their account and continued to operate the service undercover. LE even began to advertise the service on numerous Darknet Markets starting as early as January 2017. This allowed the Department of Justice to gain full access to the transactions of darknet vendors and buyers that were processed through the laundering service.

The LE run laundering service was eventually advertised and offered across several major darknet markets. LE mentioned the service had a presence in the AlphaBay forums and held some presence on Wall Street Market, Dream Market, and others.

HSI Special Agent in Charge Angel Melendez mentioned that the primary focus of this operation was not to take down marketplaces, but to take down vendors operating on the darknet markets. “When we take down a dark net marketplace, these criminals will move to other marketplaces,” Melendez said during a press conference. “So the focus of this operation was really the bad actors, the people utilizing the darknet to sell drugs.”

Through the access provided by the cryptocurrency laundering service and other methods, Law Enforcement was able to successfully trace transactions from darknet markets directly to the vendor’s personnel bitcoin wallets. While Melendez declined to provide additional specifics into the methods used to trace the bitcoin transactions, he did mention that they were using other tools to analyze the blockchain. Public records do show that HSI’s patent agency invested over $58,000 into Blockchain analyzing technology months leading up to the initial investigation.

The announcement also showed that Homeland Security operated the service for over a year, providing cash for bitcoin and has so far traced over $20 million dollars linked to drug-related crimes. So far the operation has lead to the arrest of over 40 darknet market vendors, and the seizure of over $3 million in cash, large quantities of pharmaceuticals (over 24 kg of Xanax and 100k tramadol pills), 300 models of synthetic narcotics, 100 grams of fentanyl, 2000 bitcoin, 100 guns (including a grenade launcher), bitcoin mining hardware, 15 pill presses and other drugs and properties. The current total value of seized goods holds an estimated value of over $20 million dollars.

The press release also included the named the following vendors apprehended in the sting operation who have been federally charged.

TrapGod – Antonio Tirado and Jeffrey Morales of Bronx NY (Arrested June 18). Federal Agents claimed they recovered U.S. Postal Service shipping boxes, already addressed to customers around the United States.

Cannabars AKA TheFastPlug – Jose Robert Porras III, 21, and Pasia Vue, 23, both of Sacramento who operated on several darknet markets including Trade Route, Wall Street Market, and Dream Market.

Sawgrass aka Ross4Less aka ChristmasTree – Daniel Boyd McMonegal, 35, of San Luis Obispo and Mariposa, California who mainly operated on Dream Market.

TheSource aka BonnienClyde aka BnC aka BCPHARMA aka Money TS – Nicholas J. Powell, 32, and Michael Gonzalez, 27, former and current residents of Parma, Ohio.

Several Unmentioned Accounts – Sam Bent, 32, of St. Johnsbury, Vermont (and formerly of East Burke, Vermont), and his cousin, Djeneba Bent, 26, also of St. Johnsbury who operated several accounts and shipped orders from several different post offices in Northeastern Vermont and Northwestern New Hampshire.

Over 50 darknet vendor accounts have been identified according to the Press Release.

The operation has spanned across New York, Maryland, and several other states, and has involved the DEA, US Secret Service, HSI, US Postal Service and other Federal Agencies. It is currently unclear if this operation will lead to vendor arrests in other countries, but according to the present information there are still several open investigations and the case is ongoing.

AlphaBay Market Vendor, Pirate, Arrested

A New Jersey drug operation which originated on the dark web has resulted in the seizure of over 10 Kilos of cocaine in total, with over 3 kilos discovered in a Monmouth County stash house.

DEA agents searched the home in New Jersey on August 30th and uncovered 4 kilos of cocaine from the property. After the initial raid, the LE source informed the police that they had purchased cocaine and other substances from a darknet market vendor known as Pirate on the now-defunct AlphaBay Market.

The LE informant cooperated with the DEA in an attempt to arrest Pirate, the darknet market vendor. The source contacted Pirate and arranged for him to ship the source a package of cocaine and marijuana, and in exchange, the source would pay Pirate an amount of bitcoin and ship Pirate’s customers fentanyl.

In September, the court papers show that 7 kilos of cocaine arrived in New Jersey. The shipping receipts that Pirate had sent to the informant shows that the packages had originated in Southern California.

Pirate requested that the informant ship 2 kilos of fentanyl press pills to a customer in Minneapolis. The informant agreed, and working with Law Enforcement, 2 kilos of fake pills were shipped to the customer address. US Postal Inspectors attempted a controlled delivery of the fake pills, but nobody came to the door.

Over the next month, Pirate contacted the informant and discussed shipping up to 50 kilograms of cocaine to New Jersey if the informant would be interested in shipping fentanyl to Minneapolis. At this point, Pirate offered to visit New Jersey, along with his cocaine supplier so they could meet the informant in person.

The informant agreed to the meeting and they arranged for Pirate to pay $100,000 USD for the informant to supply a person in Minnesota with a large quantity of fentanyl.

In November Pirate flew to Newark Liberty International Airport and arranged for the informant to meet him at his New Jersey hotel.

The informant traveled to the hotel, along with an undercover DEA agent who was hiding a recording device. Pirate introduced himself as Ali Mumin Hagi-Sufi and introduced his cocaine supplier, Ali Muridi Hagisufi, to the informant and undercover LE. Ali Mumin Hagi-Sufi (Pirate) gave the informant $20,000 USD and assured the rest would be provided from someone on coming the next day. The also discussed an ongoing exchange of cocaine and fentanyl which would span across Ohio, Minnesota, and Tennessee.

Both Ali Mumin Hagi-Sufi (Pirate) and his cocaine source, Ali Muridi Hagisufi were arrested for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance analog, using a cellphone to commit a felony, and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

Once the order is marked as shipped, you just need to wait for your order to arrive. Be vigilant when checking the mail as orders are often disguised for better security.

If you are using escrow instead of FE, which you always should, the vendor has 16 days to make sure the order is delivered before the money that is held in Dream Market’s escrow is automatically deposited into the vendor’s account.

If it is getting close to the 16 days mark and you have not received the order, or if you have any issues with the order you can request an extension through the order page.

If the order has not arrived after the extension or if you have complications with the order that has yet to be resolved, you must open a dispute with Dream Market.

PGP Encryption is one of the most important and primary aspects of proper OPSEC, especially when navigating or using Darknet Markets. We have also received countless requests for a tutorial about using PGP so decided it was time to make a simple tutorial and video on how to properly setup PGP on your computer. 2.) When you begin to install GPG4WIN on your device you will be greeted with a popup window showing a few different options to include when installing GPG4WIN on your device. You will notice that by default GPA is not included. Since we plan on mainly using GPA make certain that you check the box before continuing with the installation. Once you check the GPA box you can go to the next step by clicking “Next”.

3.) If GPA does not automatically start after the installation is complete go to your start folder, or if you have it on your desktop, double-click the program so it starts.

4.) On GPA’s first run, it will notify you that you do not currently have a PGP key setup and asks if you would like to make one. Click the button “Generate New Key”.

5.) The GNU Privacy Assitant window will now open and ask you for you to enter your name. Since we want the best OPSEC possible, we suggest entering a fake name or an alias that you have never used for any accounts in the past. Enter your alias and click “Forward”.

6.) Now GNU will ask for your email address. As with the previous step, we don’t want to use any email account which can be easily traced back to us. Since we will not need a real email for using PGP we suggest entering a non-existent email account, making sure that the email domain also does not exist. Once that is filled out click “Forward”

7.) Your PGP key will begin generating and soon a new popup will appear requested a password for you PGP Key. Make sure you enter a good, strong password, and if it’s not something you can easily remember, make sure to write it down and store it in a safe place. If you lose your password you will not be able to decrypt messages or unlock accounts that have 2FA backed by this PGP key.

8.) GNU will now ask if you would like to make a backup key pair. We suggest you do this and select an easily accessible folder to export the keypair to so you can locate it on your device.

9.) Now go and find the keypair you just backed up. Once you located it open the file. By default, your computer may not know how to open the file as it is saved as a .asc extension. If that is the case you can right click on the file and select to open the file with a basic text editor of your choosing. For this tutorial, we are using Notepad++ as our text editor. 10.) Once you open the file you will find a large block of text. This is your PGP key. It’s the key you will add to your accounts, so people can use your key to encrypt the messages they send you. Any messages encrypted with your PGP key can only be decrypted and read by you.

How to Encrypt Messages with someone’s PGP Key

Now that we have properly set up our own person PGP key, how do we go about sending an encrypted message to another person using their PGP Key? This is a very easy process and only takes a few steps to complete.

1.) Find the PGP key of the person you want to contact and copy it. Create a text file and paste the person’s PGP key into that text file and save the file.

2.) Start GPA and click the keys tab in the main menu and click the button “Import Keys”.

3.) Locat the text file you just saved with the person’s PGP key and click “Open”

4.) If everything went smoothly you will see a popup window that shows that a PGP key was properly imported into your keyring.

5.) Now go to your keyring window and click the button that says “clipboard” in the main menu.

6.) GPA clipboard should open and you can now enter the message you would like to encrypt with the person’s PGP key. Go ahead and enter the message.

7.) Once you finish typing the message click the “encrypt” button in the main menu of the clipboard.

8.) Now you will see your keyring that contains all the PGP keys of people you have imported, including the one we just imported for this tutorial. Locate the PGP key of the person you wish the message and click “encrypt”.

9.) The message you typed in the GPA clipboard is now encrypted with the PGP key of the person you wish to contact. You can copy and paste the encrypted message into whichever platform you are messaging the person and only they will be able to decrypt the message using.

How to Decrypt a PGP Message Sent to Us?

Now let’s see how we can decrypt a message someone has sent us using our Public PGP key. These are also the same steps you will be following when you have set up 2FA protection on your Darknet Market accounts.

1.) Open GPA and click the GPA clipboard button on the main menu.

2.) Copy and paste the encrypted message into the GPA clipboard.

3.) Click the “Decrypt” button on the Clipboard’s main menu.

4.) If you use multiple keys, select the PGP key you know was used for encrypting your message and select “decrypt”

5.) Now a popup window will request the password for your PGP key. Enter your password and click OK.

6.) Soon the message will decrypt and you will see the decrypted, readable message in your GPA clipboard.

Dream Market Fentanyl Vendor “Doggfood” Arrested

A 32-year-old Ex-Postal worker in Baltimore has been arrested for allegedly selling Heroin on various Darknet Markets using the Vendor name “Doggfood”.

Cory N Skinner of Pikesville, better known by his darknet market moniker “Doggfood” pleaded guilty to intent to distribute over 100 grams of heroin, along with various other drugs including cocaine and now faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

Doggfood was a fairly popular heroin vendor on Dream Market, according to DarknetMarkets.com research. But his popularity was not due to his sales, but rather a bad reputation for adulterating his product with Fentanyl. Leading to many of his customers becoming sick.

Doggfood’s product was confirmed to be cut using fentanyl after chemical testing was done of his product by the harm prevention forum DNM Avengers, who posted the results several months back. A quick search of DNMAvengers for the mention of Doggfood pulls up several posts and threads full of complaints regarding DoggFood’s product, provided customer service, and numerous accounts suspecting fentanyl to be the main ingredient for the product Doggfood sold as Heroin.

According to court documents, Law Enforcement began their investigations after the death of a police officer who worked for the University in Arkansaw. Detectives discovered a priority mail package which was sent from Baltimore. 2 additional packages were intercepted by USPIS (United States Postal Inspector Service) which was connected to the package sent to Arkansas. The additional packages contained about 3 grams of heroin. All of these packages had Skinner’s fingerprints on them.

US Postal Inspectors in Maryland also were investigating Skinner between September 2017 and January 2018 and had intercepted over 47 grams of Heroin and more than 80 Buprenorphine packs that were split between 20 or more packages. This leads us to believe that Skinner may have been placed under arrest in early 2018, at the end of the Maryland investigation, but we have no information to verify that.

Through the entire investigation, it was determined that Skinner had sold an estimated 100 grams of cocaine, over 200 packs of Buprenorphine, and almost 300 grams of heroin as a Vendor on the Darknet Market, Dream Market. Upon arrest, detectives discovered mailing supplies, more than $6000 in cash and additional, a 9mm firearm with ammunition, evidence to support his ties to darknet markets which included the laptop Skinner used to access and use his Dream Market account.

We did further research into the Dream Market vendor, DogFood, and discovered he had vendor accounts on both Wall Street Market and Tochka Market. Though his sales on both markets are zero, we found it alarming that there were still live listings on his Tochka account. We verified that both accounts belong to DoggFood by verifying the PGP key, which was also used for his main account on Dream Market.

We also found it troublesome that DoggFood’s Wall Street Market account shows that someone logged into DoggFood’s account about a month ago. This is very suspicious as it has yet to be discovered what date Skinner was apprehended by law enforcement. This leads one to believe that Law Enforcement or one of DoggFood’s friends may have access to his account information.

Skinner is facing 40 years in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on August 13th for his involvement with Darknet Markets.
