Really fun to consider pokemon characters owning merch of more high-profile trainers. Gladion has a Piers t-shirt under that hoodie. Nemona owns a poster of Red and Blue used to promote the Alola Battle Tree. Hop owns dozens of Leon trading cards that go for hundreds each with collectors. Cheren still has a Keychain he bought from the Nacrene City Museum gift shop when Lenora was still a gym leader.

Actually thinking about fandom culture in context of the pokemon world is so fun. Shauna has made amvs of characters Diantha has played. Penny religiously read Lillie's "my mom sold me to Champion Cynthia" fics. Bede runs a Galar league discourse blog on Tumblr. Drayton skipping class to read reader x Raihan rpf. There's so much potential here.

random add on, Ghetsis marrying Cybele is an anomaly, not even Cybele know why the fuck he'd marry her (pity?? manipulation??) She's just going along with the ride.

Ghetsis might... have a genuine attraction to her, it's just that he has a big ass wall that protects him from being vulnerable, there was always a wall between them that prevents Cybele from truly seeing the 'ugly' parts of Ghetsis. She knows it exists (she's met her in laws) but never fully connected the pieces.

Don't interpret this as Ghetsis being inattentive, as a puppet master, he's always watching over everyone in his life and he can't let himself be seen with a flaw of course. He treats her well, takes her on dates, and gives her gifts and stuff, but Cybele never fully understood Ghetsis the way Ghetsis understood Cybele.

He also never really mentions that he's married, most team plasma grunts see Cybele as just some random lady that does finance or whatever. Not even his bestie-that-he-definitely-wont-betray Colress knew that he was married.

I think during bw2, Ghetsis becomes a little bit looser with his 'evil genius with no flaws' persona around Cybele, sometimes he sleeps in his office, and wakes up to a blanket over him and a note telling him that if he was tired, he should've gone to bed with her.

After bw2, the two are just... tired, and now just live in a cabin in the woods. Old retired couple, Ghetsis is now on his lowest end, but in a way, he somehow manages to bond with Cybele further now that his pedestal is broken.

baby Cybele cuz why not. She was probably a menace growing up, and the fact that her parents are pushovers doesn't help.

Cybele was kind of a bully until high school when she messed up big time, and now she needs constant affirmations that she isn't a bad person (mostly by Gwendolyn) (she is very much a bad person)

yeah, so I've been making this AU in the back of my brain for a while. Basically, between bw and bw2, Ghetsis sends one of the shadow triad to become a gym leader so that Team Plasma can have some intel on the Unova league.

under the name Azrael (I'm unsure if I'll keep it as that tho), the shadow tries to handle being uprooted from the cold harsh frigate to Virbank city.

I got a comment on one of my recent posts and it got me thinking a bit, with the rise of tech bro culture (especially post-pandemic, it feels like it started getting more prevalent), how people heavily distrust billionaires and the news media, and how there's talks about how AI is used to identify or create databases on people, etc., I do think Team Flare and Lysandre were actually pretty ahead of their time as villains.

Lys had a mass surveillance system on Kalos using the Holocasters he invented, had some implicit control of the news media thanks to Malva (and Flare even nearly had a journalist murdered in the manga when she was trying to push a story that would have exposed their plans), and there's always conspiracy theories you hear online about how the wealthiest people want population control and to eliminate people, which is EXACTLY what Flare tried to do with the Ultimate Weapon.

(Back in 2013, I mostly remember people treating them as a bad rehash of Team Galactic, but I wonder how fans would have taken them had XY been released more recently.)
