p5 verse where someone requests a change of heart for one of the admins of bakugan interspace, and the phantom thieves think it’s gonna be just a normal mementos run but whoops turns out ren has a palace.

unless i’m not remembering something, there really is no lore about why bakugan on neathia and gundalia are in their marble forms outside of battle. and while it makes sense for them to be out in their big forms on their home world, where it’s just them and no tiny humans or vestals or whatever, it doesn’t make sense for them to be in their big forms on gundalia and neathia, where they migrated too.
gundalians and neathians are tiny compared them to bakugan! one misstep and a bakguan can take out a whole building! so rather than some edgy shit about how both sides are forcing their bakugan into tiny marble forms, i believe that neathian and gundalian bakugan simply evolved to be able to change between these forms at will, so they could better live amongst the gundalians and neathians.
on neathia, where they aren’t as cramped and live on the surface of the planet, bakugan can more often be outside their marble forms safely. there’s just more space. and this logic applies to how linehalt was in his big form all throughout ren’s childhood flashbacks. it’s just ren and him, isolated in a big forest; he wouldn’t really be a hazard to anyone’s safety by being careless except for ren, and he’s always looking out for ren.
anyways- for the rest of the gundalian bakugan; there’s just no space for them to move around comfortably and safely.

@whitedawnd | starter call.
“his name is linehalt, your highness. he’s a darkus bakugan,” ren explained, allowing the small, vaguely dragon shaped being to flutter into his palm from his shoulder. kotaru had not the been the first among the order to take interest in linehalt, and ren was certain they would not be the last. it would seem that no other worlds connected to askr had bakugan the way gundalia and neathia did.
“you’ve seen what he looks like in battle; when his people first came to gundalia, they took on these much smaller forms to better live side by side with us,” ren concluded, holding linehalt out for them to see.
the bakugan nodded respectfully at the princex and said, “it’s a pleasure to meet you, princex kotaru.”

ren WILL lie and say he’s from earth and human while in askr, but he can only keep this ruse up for so long. see, being a subterranean civilization, gundalians aren’t used to sunlight, and require special eyedrops to in order to not have intense migraines.
after a few weeks, he’ll run out of his eyedrops and have to talk to someone about finding some sort of replacement for him ( be it an enchanted pair of glasses or just a healing spell that continues throughout the day ). he will most likely first talk about this with the summoner or anna, and will reveal his true form in order to convince them he’s an alien.

anyone in askr: wants to be ren’s friend without him making an effort into manipulating them to be his friend and with no ulterior motives for wanting to be around him ren:

“i hope i’m not annoying you.”
SOFT SENTENCE STARTERS. | ACCEPTING
“you’re not, your highness,” ren says, quick to reassure her as he sets aside his notes. countless heroes here had corrected him on referring to them by their titles - most of all, princess sharena and her brother themselves - but it was simply too soon to feel safe discarding the titles and respect that seemed to carry over from gundalia.
“it’s just that this is all very new to me,” he admits. “i’m not used to people...wanting me around without having some ulterior motive. i’m not used to people of your status being so open and friendly with others.”
he wasn’t used to having friends would be an easier way to put it, but it wasn’t entirely true either. he had had the brawlers, for the brief months he’d been among them. and anyways, it’s not like the brawlers had royalty the way gundalia and the order of heroes did. but the way that royalty treated people was completely different from one another.
“i’m trying to find my place here, i suppose,” ren concluded. “trying to figure out how i’m supposed to act.”

since ren was sent into the forest prison when he was so young ( six years old ), and his only companion for the next nine years was a bakugan, he had trouble fitting into gundalian society when barodious sent for him and linehalt to be released.
he was aware that barodious court was an exceptionally dangerous place to be. he knew that the slightest misstep would result in being executed, no questions asked. so in order to make up for all the time lost learning social ques, ren began to study the behavior of the people around him, and would mimic the behavior they reacted to most favorably. he watched a lot of videos and movies in order to better learn how to act around other people, but for a long time, ren simply stayed quiet unless he was spoken to, and only said the bare minimum at that.
whenever in a new situation with new people ( and especially on new worlds ), ren will revert back to this behavior of not speaking unless spoken to, and only speaking the bare minimum, which can ironically often be perceived as him being short with someone.
his vocabulary didn’t suffer from him imprisonment and isolation, because linehalt himself is very verbose, and would teach ren what he knew in exchange for ren taking care of him.

HEADCANON : FEH VERSE
ren is summoned to askr sometime after the brawlers arrive to help on neathia, but before the episode “sid’s return.” he’s dealing with heavy amounts of doubt and guilt regarding the emperor’s orders and what happened to the rest of his team, respectively.
ren does not believes he belongs in such a place as the order of heroes, and tries to keep to himself most of the time. he’s in his human disguise almost all the time, and only lets those he’s closest to see him in his gundalian form. he’s usually found in the library, reading on the different worlds, or outside, basking in the sunshine.
he’s a colorless dragon unit, though the one doing the fighting is entirely linehalt. linehalt has been shrunken to the size of a normal manakete, in order to make things fair. if he were his normal size…any battle would be easily won simply because of how big he is.
