George looked up from his book to smile at his wife as she came into the room, placing the book softly down on the desk as she spoke to him. He was aware of his issues, his temper being the main one and even while the book had been a joke gift in a secret santa it had actually been somewhat helpful. ‘’Wonderful darling, I’ll be right there.’’ George said softly, standing up from his seat. ‘’It was a joke gift in my secret santa; think someones trying to tell me something. But it’s a surprisingly pleasant read, very helpful in places.’’ He gave a soft shrug. ‘’Not exactly Dickens though, is it?’’

    ❝  TAKE YOUR TIME ,  though i believe warm tea is better than cold ...  a joke ?    i suppose that’s not really a bad thing ;  besides ,  a new book is never a bad gift .  ❞  the woman stated with a gentle yet confident tone ,  a hand resting on her husband’s shoulder when she reached him ,  the other taking ahold of the book once he’d put it down .  while her gaze scanned the back cover briefly ,  mary spoke again .  ❝  frankly my dear ,  nothing is quite like dickens .  what makes an author good is his uniqueness  ---  there’s a reason they still teach shakespeare at school .  however ,  ❞  she paused ,  placing the book back on the desk ,  ❝  i think it’s wonderful that you decided to give it a chance .  i think you might not want to show it to the kids though ,  as they might laugh a little .  perhaps not john ;  that one will probably be more concerned about the book’s writing rather than its content .  ❞

♐:  is my muse blunt or do they beat around the bush?

      i wouldn’t say she beats around the bush,  but she isn’t blunt either.  she’s just careful with the things she says / the words she picks when voicing her opinion, so that no one gets hurt or offended.  she’s a very honest person but also incredibly considerate.

☂:  what my muse does on a rainy day

        on a rainy day,  i’d say she is most likely to bake something for the family,  pour herself some tea and spend the day reading !  she’s a very active person,  but lazy days aren’t necessarily a bad thing in mary’s eyes.  she’ll also spend a decent amount of time playing with nana probably.

    she is  INCREDIBLY  creative !  if you give her three words she’ll craft an entire story revolving around those three words in like,  two minutes.  i’m pretty sure the darling children get their imagination from mary;  honestly she is a bit of a child at heart.

“of course you would say that, mary. you have to as a friend.” she said with a laugh, “tell george that he doesn’t get an opinion unless he decides to wear something other than his normal.” duchess said before shrugging and rolling her eyes playfully, “it has been a while. i can’t say much has changed. just trying to figure out what to do with these teenagers i have. how about yourself?” duchess asked, patting the seat next to her for mary to sit.

     ❝  I AM YOUR FRIEND ,  but i would still have said that even if i weren’t .  &  i most certainly will !   but quite frankly ,  i don’t mind my husband’s everyday wear  ---  there’s something very charming about men in a good ,  well - cut suit or tux .  or perhaps i’m a bit old fashioned when it comes to men’s wear .  ❞  with a small laugh ,  she takes the seat beside the blonde  &  brings her mug to her lips ,  sipping from her tea while keeping a classy posture .  the good thing about spending time with duchess was that mary never felt as if she was being over the top with her tastes ;  not to mention her family did teach her very good manners ,  which she’d kept through the years .  ❝  very much the same ,  i would say !  things changed a bit when their friend peter disappeared ,  but i suppose everything’s slowly falling into place ...  as you might imagine ,  they don’t know i know any of that .  when i’m not worrying about the children ,  i’m worrying about george  &  when i’m not worrying about him either ,  i’m baking .  but how are your children ,  dear ?  i could’ve sworn i’d seen toulouse around town the other day  ---  but of course ,  i didn’t really say a thing ;  kids often seem embarrassed when the friends of their parents recognize them .  ❞

    ❝  GEORGE DEAR ,  the tea is-- ... oh ,  ❞  mary chuckles ,  knowing she should have expected george to be at least reading something ,  if not working .   as she stepped further into the office ,  the woman glanced at the title of the book in his hands ,  ❝  the tea’s ready ,  is what i was going to say ...  that seems like a good book .  ❞  definitely not what mary would pick up for reading ,  but she knew that encouraging george into learning about something that could potentially help with his temper was very important .   ❝  how do you like it ?  ❞

duchess flipped through this months issue of vogue paris as she sipped her coffee, it seemed cliche to have spent her morning shopping and winding up in a cafe looking at ever more clothes but hey it’s what she enjoyed after all. ❝ some of this haute couture is even going over my head.❞ the woman said with a small laugh, ❝ maybe i’m not as fashionable as i once was.❞

     ❝  NOT AS FASHIONABLE ?  now that is just impossible ,  you are one of the best dressed people in town !  ❞  warm laughter escapes mary’s lips ,  a smile resting between them as she glances at the vogue magazine in her friend’s hands .  it wasn’t always that the woman ran into duchess ,  but it surely always ended up in  good fun ;  after all ,  the two had more in common than one would think .  ❝  george used to always say that  fashion trends  are for the anxious ...  it’s easy for him ;  after all ,  all he needs is a suit  &  tie .  how’ve you been ,  dear ?  it’s been quite a while ,  hasn’t it ?  ❞

how do you stay married forever and not accidentally murder your husband in a fit of rage? asking for a friend

     ❝  WELL ,  it certainly helps that i’ve never been a violent person ,  but i suppose there are a few tips i can give you .  the most important one is to remember that marriage is a collaboration between two people ;  it takes effort from both parties ,  otherwise it won’t work .  secondly ,  respecting each other is very important .  always respect the person you’re with ,  but also ,  don’t take each other too seriously .  you’d be impressed by the amount of time george  &  i make fun of each other  —  but not in front of the children .  thirdly ,  i would say it’s always good to find some time off to spend with the person you love .  it might get harder as time passes ,  but it does wonders for the relationship .  george  &  i are both very busy people ,  but we try to at least have dinner together every other week ,  just the two of us .  i wouldn’t worry too much though ;  marriage is an adventure ,  you can’t experience it to it’s full potential if you’re not open to surprises .  ❞

what’s your favorite memory of when the kids were young?

      ❝  THIS LITTLE BAKING COMPETITION  we had in the house .  it’s more of a family memory really ,  but it was the first time we did something unconventional with the kids  —  you know ,  other than the usual walk in the park or beach trip .  i wonder if they still remember a thing …  it was boys versus girls ,  &  george was really confident that he would win because well ,  that’s george for you ,  but also because he had both john  &  michael on his team ;  so wendy  &  i decided to recruit nana .  it made no difference of course ,  but at least the teams were even now .  i think my wonderful husband forgot that nor john or michael knew how to read back then ,  whereas wendy was already learning her polysyllables  &  numbers .  long story short ,  george was in charge of doing the dishes for a whole week ,  but i don’t think he minded it at all .  it was definitely fun ,  &  the kitchen was a big mess afterwards  —  michael had too much fun with the flour .  ❞
