DIC- Darren Ng
1st verse:
My heart feels like a hundred pounds,
Thing about life is one mistake can put you on the ground,
Sometimes it’s hard to get up,
But time heals all wounds,
And once you can’t get back on your feet,
Then it’s time to make your wrongs,
I don’t call it redemption,
I call it resurrection,
It takes self-reflection,
Then self-empowerment
Hook:
When the light don’t shine,
And you feel down outright,
You let the pain bleed out,
Then you rise,
I promise it gets better, I promise nothing lasts forever
2nd verse:
It takes courage and strength,
Like Rosa Parks, like Django, or Joan of Arc,
When life gets rough and you done fucked up,
It means you become independent, never dependent,
The world feels lonely,
Because you realize no one gives a fuck,
They say “Let me know if you need anything, I’m here for you”,
Maybe because…it’s so damn convenient,
The only one who stayed down for me…was my momma,
Not even my twin, not even my father,
Momma, I’m sorry, I love you forever
Hook:
When the light don’t shine,
And you feel down outright,
You let the pain bleed out,
Then you rise,
I promise it gets better, I promise nothing lasts forever
3rd verse:
You know what’s fucked up?
Besides my luck and me fucking up?
Your father telling you that you have no future,
That if I had crashed, I deserved to have my life taken,
Because I was driving under the influence,
I made a mistake,
I thought I was good,
Sped by a cop,
Then his sirens came on,
And then I wished it was a dream,
And that I’d wake up,
But that was reality,
And what’s done is done,
I’m going to grow from this,
Rely on my own,
Take my life and drive in control,
Look back in ten years,
Look my father in the face and say I made it in life,
And that it’s not a joke.

DUI (Driving under influence) -> DIC (Driving in control)
Part 1
People have said this time and time again. It’s weird how the universe works. Good things happen to bad people, and the worst things happen to the best people. Take my Uncle James for example; a great father figure. He is extremely intelligent, funny, goofy, and full of positive energy. He also installs this sense of confidence in you and makes it known that he believes in your abilities; far greater than anyone else, including yourself. His son (my cousin), Terrence, was diagnosed with leukemia as a young teen. Fortunately, after 3 years of battling cancer, he had won the fight (#FuckCancer). Fast forward to 2013. Uncle James is diagnosed with a form of stomach cancer. The doctor predicted he had less than a year to live. It is currently, August 1, 2015, which means has already lived two more years than expected. I get to see Uncle James every Sunday and every time I see him, he has on that same funny, goofy, good-vibe energy that he’s had prior to getting cancer. I kid you not, I completely forget he has cancer sometimes. This man right here is my unsung hero. Someone who I adore and have great admiration for. Someone who I strive to be and will look up to.
Just yesterday on July 31, 2015 at 2:58 AM, I was driving back home on the 60 East from a party in Pomona. About 0.1-0.2 miles away from the exit to my house, I got pulled over by a cop for speeding (going around 80 mph). The CHP officers had asked me if I had been drinking that night. I replied, “yes.” They asked to me step out of the vehicle and performed sobriety tests on me, all of which I believed to have passed. Nevertheless, when the officers gave me the pre-Breathalyzer test, I had blown a BAC of .13. Needless to say, I was charged with a DUI. Although, it has only been roughly 36 hours since the incident, it feels as though a week in time has passed. At this point, the “what-ifs” and “I was almost home” thoughts still come back to haunt me, despite telling myself what is done is done, and that I should never have been driving under the influence in the first place. I am disappointed in myself for not thinking my actions through before committing them. I will continue to update my followers on my journey and the steps I will take to grow from this.
My uncle is a constant reminder of how one can choose the right path when facing their downs. His attitude, resiliency, and how he chooses to battle cancer is beyond imaginable. I plan on translating his attitude, beliefs, and proper actions into facing this battle of mine. I have begun by making objectives to meet. Each of these objectives are designated towards helping myself grow as a person and becoming more responsible. I think its begins with starting good habits. I will be tracking my progress on meeting these 40 habits. I intend to try and meet all of these objectives by the end of next year.
