male reader & daryl getting real high (smokin lots of joints) off in a secluded area of alexandria? talking about really deep shit, like their equally horrible pasts, & bonding over how similar they are? idk i'd love to see that. :)
thank you for the request :)
A/N: this is poorly proof read and could've been a lot longer i just got really impatient and i had to post something. also the reason why their conversations are so vague is because 1- theyre high 2-theyre men
so there you go :)
Tumblr media
"Took me damn forever to find ya." The archer huffed as he ambled towards you. His backpack was hanging on his left arm as his apperance hinted how he was very well ready and equipped.
Your eyes were semi-shut as you inhaled the joint between your fingers. The clammy tip of the marijuana kept easing your muscles, making them only become more lethargic with each passing second as contentment was all you could sense in your being.
A cunning smirk was bearing your features because you couldn't help it. The run had already gotten cancelled and seeing the tough archer this keen made you ridicule him inside though you knew it was wrong, you were getting lit.
Your eyes observed the area for a brief moment. You were close to the outer walls in Alexandria where no one took patrols owing to the fact that it was one of the strongest walls.
Wind carried a few kids' laughter as they hurried to catch a ball as your eyes shifted to Daryl.
"What'ca ya doin?" He inquired with squinted eyes and curiousity he couldn't conceal.
"Gettin' high." A smirk tugged the corner of your lips as you raised one brow softly.
He stood inches away from you as he eyed you down. He rested his body weight on his right leg and bit on his middle fingernail.
You squinted your eyes at him as the sun was shining behind his body.
"Ain't the time."
"C'mon." He spoke under his breath and turned his body to the side.
"The run got postponed." You confessed at the end.
A sense of being taken aback flashed his face.
"Wha' for?" He spoke low
You exhaled as smoke escaped your mouth and lowered your head. You leered at him through your brows for an insant.
"Some herd is moving towards the area or some shit." You sighed once again, lifting your gaze to see him.
He kept his hands on his pockets, eyes narrowed indicating he was lost in thought. You shielded your hand above your eyes as you got up, pushing your chest out. Your cockyness could be spotted ten miles away everytime you were up in the clouds due to being high.
"Have a smoke with me." You mouthed.
His hesitation radiated the perimeter as you looked at him and inquired
"No?"
You challenged him as he seemed as if being pulled back into the Earth. His brows raised, looking through your entire being.
You had only known him for a few months when your group ran into two people called Glenn and Tara. Your group was on a mission that seemed to be never ending, yet some idiotic scene broke out. That Eugene guy had you fooled in your entire journey.
You didn't really know Daryl, neither did he. He was the silent type, not talking much unless necessary or for the sake of so-called compulsory morality even in the events of a nettlesome apocalpyse.
You approached near your bag you had left next to the thorns alongside lawn that hadn't been mowed for atleast a couple months. You put one knee on the ground as you took out your stash.
You got up, throwing the pack of stash to the air and catching it.
"Let loose." You exasperatedly sighed and rolled your eyes enough to catch his attention.
"Runnin' off like dis helps ya with wha' ?" He geniuenly wondered as you could see him relaxing a bit more. His brows were still furrowed yet you sat on the step of a stair.
"You wouldn't believe it." You quipped as you tapped your hand on your next to the step.
You traced him through your lashes with squinted eyes. You could view his undecisive, reluctant-ish demanour.
" 'm in." He muttered vaguely and sat next to you as a grunt left his mouth.
You took out your lighter in your pocket and ignited his joint.
It wasn't until he burnt a few marijuanas that he finally uttered a few words. Until then, neither of you did anything besides inhaling the soothing drug between your lips. The more breeze grazed your faces, the more tranquil you both became. So out of touch with outer problems that were going on at the moment. So serene, so unruffled.
"Heard ya was a military guy." He explained. Your eyes shifted to his face lightly to observe his droppy eyes, god knows how sleep deprivated he was. His back was slouch, head barely lifted to the direction infront of his eyes.
"Did it for money." You confessed, sticking your piercing gaze to his greasy hair in hope to get him look at you.
"Mmhm." He clattered subtly as he chewed on his goatee beard.
"Were you?" You inquired, contemplating this might be one of the very few chances you had to get to know this group of people a bit better, people whom you had meet not so long ago.
"Nah."
"Mah brother, Merle, was." He got quiet, brows furrowed more than before. No matter how tranquil he became, you noticed how he couldn't get his teeth off his lips or beard.
"You got a brother?" You sung in a zealous way. You adored men like Daryl, men who grew up in the south. Men like you. Real Americans.
"Did." He uttered softly as he forced a harsher scowl.
Your eyes widened lightly, mouth ajar as your chopped lips throbbed at the breeze. This was the end of the world, it was never bright to ask such questions
"Fuck, man. I- I didn't know." You finally spoke low as he clapped his hand to get rid of the dust that had accumulated from the step in this unattended side of the town.
You were face to face as mortification swarmed all over your body. You had tonnes of questions, did he die before the fall? What was he like? Does he think about him occasionally?
"Relax." A forceful smile painted his lips as his eyes fixated on the wall infront of him.
"I ain't thinkin' 'bout him no more." His averted stare locked on a far distance.
His joint was between his chopped lips as he picked the skin on his calloused fingers.
"Left fer tha military not cuz he was ready ta be a martyr." He clenched his jaw, eyes spiritless more than ever. Narrowed as though he couldn't think of words to utter. Plain as it was, you didn't want him to close in his shell because of your anticipation in getting to know him more.
"Bleed fer America or sum' shit." He added.
"Did it to escape life." His lack of energy was evident.
"If a man's got his reasons." You muttered under your breath as your head sagged between your shoulders softly. You didn't mean what you said, that's why it came out so brittle, so weak. Even you didn't believe it, it was just some limp excuse you had created for yourself years ago so that you would stay sane.
"Nah, I knew his damn reasons."
He gave you an insightful glare, leaving you crumble inside.
You took a deep breath, fingers playing with the buttons of your flannel. Your eyes raised at your fingertips as you debated whether to speak up or not.
"You know, I grew up in Georgia."
"Countryside, very south." You shook your head as you let out a nervous chuckle. Your smile lines didn't shift as they started tremble slightly from how long you'd been holding a smile.
"Son to a rancher family. Fanatically religious."
You dared to eyeball him through your brows. Smoke hitting his face as breeze changed its direction, your hair fell infront of your eyes.
"I mean, I know I don't sound like a southerner."
"But I am."
"Worked damned hard to lose my accent 'cause of prissy boys." You let another uneasy chuckle, remembering the very first day your dad dropped you in some college you'd believed you were gonna succeed in, that you were gonna prove you can be better than your blood. That you could end the cycle and prove everyone else wrong.
It wasn't even a term in school that you decided to drop out. You couldn't go back home and bear hearing condescending comments from your family, how college was some capitalist trick, how you should be like them and not fill your head with delusional ideas. So you signed up for military.
You were getting way away from your point as he turned his head to you, grabbing another marijuana from your stash.
Your track of thought was interrupted by the sound of him going through your stash.
"Fuck it. Now I'm just ramblin' " You shook your head as you took a long drag.
"Ya ain't. Keep goin' "
You couldn't tell if he was just being polite -yet rational for you to assume he never had such worry. You glared at him with cautious eyes as he placed his palms on the frontstep of the back door of the whatever abandoned house's perimeter you were on. He placed his feet on the long, untamed lawn, crossing his next foot on the other and threw his head back. You could feel him getting lost due to marijuana, you lost count of how many he had had now.
"The way I see it," He grunted between drags and observed the sky with his dark eyes.
"Ain't nothin' there ta worry 'bout." He spoke as if he couldn't believe his ears to see someone being this self-conscious about their accent.
"Fer me, never did." He took another drag.
"Never had ta deal with no pansies from the city before."
"That was stupid, I know." You chuckled at his way of seeing things.
"Where'd ya say ya grew up in again?" He shifted his head to you after a couple of seconds
"Georgia."
"Uh-huh." He curled the tip of the marijuana with his thumb as he exclaimed softly.
"What is it?" You asked.
"Same 'ere." He raised a brow.
"Fact is, ain't never been outta Georgia 'fore al' dis." A smile between sorrow and misrepresented self-conceit coloured his features. He squinted eyes at you.
"Ain't no way." You huffed with a hint of astonishment in your eyes.
"Tha's right." He said.
" 'Lways had sum' shit ta keep ma' engaged."
"Nuthin' worth a damn." His eyes indicated a sense of inward melancholy.
"Just drifted behind ma brother 's all I done. Did whatever he'd told me to." His eyes spaced out as though he was remembering those days.
It got silent. You respected his privacy at the moment. You couldn't tell if he was gonna regret having you told these things next day. You didn't even know if it bothered you. You had more things in common than you'd ever guess.
"You got family before all this?" You asked, not hiding your interest.
"If ya can call it tha' " He chuckled loosely.
Your eyes observed his body head to toe as he lied down restlessly on the stairs with a curled marijuana that was to burn his fingertips.
"Old man was a jackass. Ain't never done shit for us." He kept speaking. He wasn't looking at you, in fact did it feel like he didn't acknowledge anyone's presence.
"And ma' mom.." He didn't finish his sentence. You didn't force him to.
"Well.." His adam's apple trembled lightly as he used the wooden floor as an ashtray.
He got quite more than ever, eyes glossy which put you in disbelief. You couldn't know men like him would cry infront of an another man. Nonetheless, after a few swift blinks, he put himself together. He shifted his position and sat on the corner of the stair, back leaning against the porch fence as he beheld you.
"Grew up surrounded by a whole bunch of people that knew nothin' 'bout them kids."
Your heart clenched at his words. You knew the feeling, you swallowed your spit as you wished you had brought something to drink.
He sat across you. You dropped your head between your shoulders as you restlessly controlled your shallow breaths.
You didn't know what was going on inside of you. Your stomach felt like tightening alongside with the feeling of your heart being flipped inside and out.
Blood rushing to your every cell only made you stimulated, hands getting sweaty as you kept being occupied with your flannel's buttons.
You pressed your lips together only to start biting on the skin a second later.
"Ya al'right over there?" He asked mindlessly.
You lifted your head as he started to scribble on the wooden floor with his knife. He eyeballed you through his brows. His body language suggested a subtle irritation as you didn't answer. You were thinking of right words to utter.
"It's just... Didn't think you'd be the person who..."
You cut it mid-sentence as you decided to not jump into a conclusion.
"Men like you are always so though and so..." Your eyes traced the sky and your lips kept shaking as you begged to utter the proper things.
"Stop." He shook his head and your eyes grazed his face.
"Ain't into tha' whole pep talk crap." The curls of his lips trembled. He went back to scribbling the floor as if not expecting a respond from you.
"It ain't a pep talk." You stuck your gaze upon his greasy bangs.
"My dad was a drunken 'sides the times he was done with his farm errands." Your eyes followed his scribbles on the floor as your mind travelled to that dreadful childhood, youth...
"Taking care of the animals or..."
"I don't fuckin' know, mending the field or some shit."
You knew it like the back of your hand that you didn't make any sense at the moment. Your body, brain, mind were just too numb.
"Just another asshole that had a problem with everyone else in the house..." You muttered.
"Sucks." He grunted.
"It does." You mumbled once again.
You spent the rest of the day either sitting in complete silence or talking about the world before everything had gone to shit as sun set over Alexandria.

thinking about how daryl would react when someone he truly loves and cares about gets bitten and takes her last breath on his arms..
you fell on your knees, hand grabbing the back of your shoulder as your vision blurred at the sight of blood and torn flesh particles covering your palm.
"Daryl.." You spoke out in a tone above whisper as he turned his head to your body hitting ground.
his vision blurred for a split second as he felt himself getting lost between dimensions. The world outside went quite as he rushed towards you, not knowing you got bit. he thought he could ease down your fall, maybe prevent you from hitting your head to rocks on the hilly ground in the middle of the woods.
"hey, hey, hey." He exclaimed after he saw your eyes rolling behind your skull as he cupped your neck with his hand and shook you from your biceps.
your warm blood coloured his bare forearm and the best possible thing he could've think was maybe you got shot, not bitten.
you swallowed dryily, feeling your lips like a torture on your features as if they were glued together.
he didn't understand what happened for a minute or so, which felt like a century for him. the thing that helped him get back on the real word was your incompetent words.
"i- i got. i got bit."
he remained silent. it was a scene that resembled explaining death to a kid. it wasn't like he had never had someone die infront of him but this was different. you were different.
" I'ma get ya help." and without even letting you waste your breath, he started to cry out.
"Rick!''
"Glenn!"
"Maggie!"
His wailing grew less and less efficient and strong as a tear rolled down his cheek. No one was around, the ones that were though, were fighting for their lives.
"you can't help this." you begged between your tears and the fact that you couldn't recognize him anymore. gosh, was this death? not recognizing even the slighest feature on a face once you loved and yearned for.
all you could see was the under of his chin with your glossy and hazy glare. you could see the corner of his eyes getting all wrinkly, his body shaking softly which made you feel like you were on a damn roller coaster. his fingers clutched your biceps tighter.
"just hold me please." your voice trembled as your tears slided down your temples, drenching your baby hairs. your breath started to be less steady.
he lowered his head to you, tears held back for so long freed themselves down his face. he sobbed, his chest quaking so harshly that you thought he could die there with you.
you wanted him to move on, he needed to.
a food for thought 🥹

Your eyes flickered at Daryl's scars covering his entire back alongside of his tattoos that looked very much like to having been done by an amateur. You had been wondering their story for a long time now, yet never had the courage to question him vulgarly.
You moved your legs restlessly under the thin sheets, feeling his seeds sticking to your thighs and dripping onto the bed.
He was never at ease with such things. From the very beginning of your "relationship" that is, just warming eachother's bed on these aggravating days of the apocalpyse, where former human beings becoming foes to the geniune humanity. Hence, you always had to wait for him to leave first. There'd be nights so lewd, so scarlet that he'd feel adequate enough to let his guard down now and then. He'd fall next to you on the bed. He'd try to maintain his heaving chest as he'd cover up his downer body with sheets and would just lie down, your bodies so close to eachother, so warm that you'd feel sheltered against his bare skin. And then, he'd bend down to grab his denim jeans and take out the pack of cigarattes you'd looted from a walker's jackets earlier.
At times, there'd be enough to last you a week but at other times there'd be so little amount that you would share one. He would pass a cigaratte to you that he had taken a long drag of. You'd draw the cigaratte to your lips, savoring the tip of the cigaratte he'd moistened with his lips.
But on this specific night, both of you were high on joints. These thoughts entangled your mind as your attention shifted on the flexing muscles on his back while he put on a t-shirt.
You spoke your mind, without giving it a second thought nor being aware of his upcoming run with Glenn and Rick tomorrow early in the morning.
"Why don't you sleep here?" You uttered low, tracing your knuckles across the downy sheet incase he'd turn to face you, you couldn't dare.
"Why, are ya need in company?" He grunted in a headlessness manner as if to drop a joke. You despised how he practically didn't pay any attention to it.
You felt blood rushing to your face. The humid already made it unendurable to stay under the sheet and now this. You took deep, instable breaths.
"No." Your voice was unexpectedly trembling slightly. You shook your head as you scoffed. Now, he was facing you.
"It's just..." You were already in remorse, wishing you hadn't even started this conversation in the first place. You bit the inside of your cheek as you cracked your knuckles out of apprehension.
You felt his piercing gaze sticking upon your forehead, yet you rejected to meet with his gaze until you found something to say that didn't make you look, perhaps, desperate.
"It just gets lonely in this side of the prison." You uttered, finally lifting your head to see him buckling his jeans. You had expressed this countless times in conversations with a different context. Rick had decided to put you in a cellblock away from the others when you first joined them and he didn't change his decision ever since.
"Gon' ask me ta snuggle, too?" He quipped, a subtle sly smirk played on the corner of his lips. He tapped on his pockets as he scanned the small cell for his belongings that he might've dropped.
A sense of indignity overwhelmed you, leaving you feeling overstimulated. You couldn't grumble. He wasn't a boyfriend that owed you courtesy after screwing your brains out. He wasn't someone like that after all. Nonetheless, you loathed at the thought of a huge difference between men and women. How insensitive they could be, how insensitive he could be.
You were very well aware of your relationship, you'd both made it clear to not turn this into anything it wasn't. However, you couldn't resist the longing yearning in your heart.
"Jerk." You simply said as you turned your back to him. You placed your hands under the pillow, resting your head on it. All those thoughts, yet "jerk" was the only thing you made it through your lips. You locked your eyes on the shabby wall, slowly breathing as all you were hearing was his movements behind you. He was so dazed that he couldn't comprehend you nor your course of actions.
"Got'a get sum' shit done in the mornin'." He spoke to himself as he was wearing his leather boots.
"Ya know, with Glenn n' Rick." He added followed by his grunts as he leaned forward to tie his bootlaces.
"The sun shines on this side of the prison, too. You know?" You uttered quietly. Your tone must've caugh his attention as he stopped tying his laces and leaned back on the chair bit by bit. He sighed as he rested his hands on his knees.
"What the hell 's dis all 'bout?" He spoke low with an irritated tone. He scowled at not getting an answer from you.
You wrapped your hands around you, staring at him with softly quaking brows. He stood there with a clenched jaw, eyeing you with squinted eyes.
"Now ya dun' talk?" He spat, chewing his bottom lip as he grabbed his jacket on the bedside table.
"Ya damn well kno' how ta kill a good night." He scoffed derisively, hearing a exasperated sigh from you.
He turned his head to you, giving you a spine-chilling glare.
"Don't ya?" His voice grew taller as you observed the vein throbbing on his neck.
"Keep it down." You exclaimed, shifting your position on the bed in a rush. The bed sank under the weight of your knees as you incompetently tried to cover yourself with the sheets.
His eyes flicked through your bare body for a brief moment as he forced himself to look you in the eyes. You felt subjected to his deviant gaze, a sense of shame flooding your every cell.
"Nah." He firmly uttered.
"Rick threw ya in dis cellblock for a reason." His tone above a whisper.
" 'Cuz ya stir up sum' drama."
"All the damn time."
"Dun' miss a chance, like clockwork."
He locked his eyes on yours. Dark shadows roaming his face. Your face got hot as you had to wait to process his words, what they could've meant.
"Those joints have caused you a mental block." You hissed, not understanding even a bit why he would've say something like that.
"Fuck off." You shrugged your shoulders as you threw your body on the bed, leering at the ceiling.
"It ain't tha'." He uttered, you could sense him leaning against the wall.
"Then what? All this because I asked you to sleep with me?" Your hands met over your chest, crossed. You could hear his shallow breaths, contemplating the best thing to say. You knew he'd fail. A moment passed as neither of you spoke. He took a deep breath
" 'S cuz ya wanna go for childish fantasies." He grunted.
"Like 's sum' kinda game." He spoke, one could sense the palpable thickness of weariness in his voice. It was like he had questioned it a thousand time before you even brought it up. His heavy words lingered in the air, unraveling all the things he never even told you. You could sense it.
"It isn't." You abruptly begged. You needed him to know that you understood his way of seeings things, his way of seeing you. You knew you shouldn't corner him. You didn't.
"Forget it." He huffed with exhaustion as he left the cell.
"Night." You mumbled, knowing he didn't even hear you. You didn't even bother to get up and grab your clothes lying on the floor as you were nothing but flabbergasted. Your eyes were glued to the ceiling, hearing the cicadas singing outside of the prison.
A tear rolled down to your temple and your hand shifted to the side of your face reflexively. You sniffed your nose and shook your head in apace. You got up slowly, sitting on the edge of the bed fully naked. You sticked your eyes to the wall infront of you, fearsome of even uttering a word to yourself in this godforsaken cellblock.
You reached your hand to the panties he threw to the floor as all you could hear was muffled conversations from people on watch. You exhaled, the futile argument which broke out of nonsense didn't support your brain to not grow more lethargic thanks to the joints.
The world around you started to spin, leaving you out of kilter as you had to screw your eyes shut. You wore your bra and as you were done with clasping it, you drank what felt like a gallon of water.
You topped it with a dirty t-shirt and left your body uncovered to the humid of the south on your bed.
What did he think? That you were gonna be just fine with just fucking. How long before you started to feel things, that you wanted more.
You blamed yourself, too soon you thought. Maybe it wasn't. There was no way to know.
You woke up to the sun breaking through your eyelids. You fell asleep to overthinking hence the penetrating headache. You swallowed dryily as you tossed your body to the water bottle next to you and gulped it down agressively to a point where it dripped down your neck to the floor.
You spent your day within the fences of the prison casually, helping people run errands and talking about the run three of the solid men in your group went.
You were in the hall where you kept your food in, cleaning your pistol and weapons so that they're more handy. You furrowed due to your focus on the weapons when you heard a few sighs out of relief drawing near to the hall.
You lifted your head, awating to see who it was with your growing curiousity. Your face loosened at the sight of Daryl and lowered it to your weapons once again, exhaling subtly.
He put his crossbow and poncho on the table, fixating his eyes at you. You wrinkled your forehead, trying to ignore his existence but you were only growing to be distracted even more, with him standing there and observing you.
You suddenly lifted your gaze, exhaling exasperatedly with your hands sagging between your knees. Dirty rags and utensils accumulating a thick layer of dirt on your hands.
You squeezed your eyes shut for a second, sighing dramatically.
"...What?" You huffed, wishing nothing but to be left alone.
" 'M sorry." He muttered under his breath, making it impossible to be heard.
"You're what?" You let out a frustrated growl with his fancy words.
" 'Bout last night." He shrugged his shoulders indifferently, concealing every bit of an emotion peeking on the way.
"What about it?" You forced a downward smirk, trying to seem cool.
"C'mon." He simply said, looking rather bewildered with you. He looked as if he didn't know where to put his hands or what to do with his body.
"Your fine." You huffed, focusing on the weapons.
"I's bein' a dick 's all." He begged, taking a step towards you.
"Yeah you were." You scoffed tauntingly, not looking at his direction. You observed his boots and exhausted steps drawing towards you as you maintained your focus on the dirty rag in your hand.
"Ya kno' I'ma set things right." He was so near you that you had to raise your head to look at him. You were sitting on the frontstep of smaller cellar in the hall, he looked down at you. Your eyes filled with a flamey look as he stayed put.
"Per usual." You forced a sham smile, wishing he'd sense the sarcasm in your tone.
Seeing that he wasn't getting out of the way, you instantly got up as you rolled your eyes. You leered at him.
"Will you please get out of my way?" You hissed, maintaining a stern eye contact like a rock.
He remained silent without blinking.
"Dun' do dis." He mumbled.
You felt heat rising to your head, slowly gritting your teeth.
"So now it's my fault?" You barked between your heaving chest. You digged your nails into your palm, your face getting redder each second.
He remained silent once again as he placed his burly left hand to your waist, burying his forehead on your shoulder. As you were at the brink of pushing his body, hands softly grabbing him by the shoulders.
"A herd nearly took us out today." He breathed against your skin.
Your hand fell loose down his body as your eyes widened and you let out a soft sigh. His hair tickled under your chin as you felt him breathing shallowly against your skin. Your eyes fixated on the entrance gate as you didn't know what to say or do.
You felt your eyes twitching along with your bottom lip as his hot breaths send shivers down your spine, your body flooding with goosebumps.
"Almost got Rick." He added after a few second that felt like a decade.
"I'm sorry. I- I-" You made it out through a shaky voice as he lifted his head, his hand still gripping your waist.
"Ain't yer fault." He slowly ambled toward the table where he left his crossbow on.
"Jus' made me get mah head al' together." He spoke as if there was no one in the hall. He slunged his crossbow on his body and rubbed his face as he let out a frustrated sigh.
"There ain't no reason ta be a damn douchebag." He added, eyeballing you as he placed his hands on his hips.
You were left with thousands of feelings, thoughts lining in your head leaving you stay put like a statue with no form of life whatsoever. Your brows were raised, lip bottom still trembling yet you managed a hold on it. He threw his poncho on his shoulder as he got close to the hall gate.
"Come to my cell tonight." You insisted with soulful, intense eyes right before he left.
You saw him nodding his head discreetly as he chewed on his bottom lip.

OH MY GOD DONT DO THIS TO ME I'LL CRY.
I often think about Daryl from when he was a kid. One of the main thoughts I have about him from then is how badly he wanted to grow his hair out to how it is now but Will would never let him. The longest it ever got was probably how it was at early prison-era length. Will would notice his hair getting too long and yell at him, forcing him to get it cut by his mom.
It hurts to think about the sweet little boy, holding back tears sitting in his mom's lap as she starts cutting his hair. I like to think his mom was kind though, he had at least one loving parent before she passed. She'd cup his face in her hands and promise him that it'll always grow back as he lets a few loose tears fall. He could never cry around Will but with his mom, he could if he needed to.
Around the Whisperers era, you're about to cook dinner when you tell him he needs a haircut and he practically panicked inside thinking you didn't like his hair long anymore, he thought you loved his hair from how you would comment on how you loved how it grew out over the years. You'd notice that pause within him and state, “Not a haircut, just a trim. Wanna be able to see your pretty eyes, baby.”. He'd show a soft smile and agree.
You'd pull out a chair for him to sit down on as you go and grab a handheld mirror and some scissors. You'd come back into the kitchen and situate yourself on his lap and show him exactly where you're going to trim the length to in the mirror. He'd wrap his arms tight around your waist as you got to work just trimming the ends.
When you were done you'd set down the scissors and cup his cheek in your hand, wipe away the few hairs that fell on his face, and hold up the mirror to him in your other hand. He'd say it looked good and as you set the mirror down and begin to pull yourself up off his lap he'd pull you tighter against him.
He'd begin by now cupping your face in his hands and kissing you. He'd trail his kisses down your cheek and jaw, peppering them down along your neck. He'd slowly pick you up to make sure you have your legs wrapped tight around him as he makes sure as well that he has his arms wrapped tight around you.
He'd carry you to your bedroom as you bury your face in the crook of his neck. He needed to show you his gratitude somehow. It was gonna be a long night of him showing you how much he loved you, how much he appreciated the tender love and care you showed him.

Disclaimer!: I am not a writer😭 I just wanna say stuff that I think about Daryl cuz it’s fun and he’s all I think about so that’s what this is.
I really believe that Daryl has anxiety. Like, it was super bad when he was a little kid, feeling like he could throw up or pass out any time he was in a social situation, it was more visible as a child with wobbly legs and shaky hands. Merle would just call him a pussy and tell him to grow up so over the years he learnt how to deal with it better, making it completely invisible to anyone else.
Once the apocalypse started it was kind of a blessing in disguise, it was just Daryl and his big brother so he pretty much forgot he even had anxiety. It wasn’t so bad at the quarry and the farm because he kept his distance. He’d go off on carol when she got too close because he got comfortable being alone and when others would invade his space he'd feel the old spike of nausea that reminds him who he really is, a coward like his brother told him.
during the time at the prison, he got closer to the group, in proximity and friendship wise. there wasn't much choice but he eased himself into talking to rick more instead of just taking orders without another word. He got closest to carol because somehow she seemed to understand him and she knew not to push and to give him space.
when merle returned, so did the old daryl, becoming more hostile and like a little puppy who does what merle says but he came to his senses eventually.
after getting stuck with Beth after the fall of the prison he came to realise that not everyone thinks hes some freak of nature. people can be good, some people are just good, beth was good, beth made daryl feel like he could be good, maybe he was good already.
beth dying set daryl back. whats the point of letting anyone get close if they die anyways? he still had carol though and she understood him.
arriving at alexandria, carol changed, shes smart. Daryl didnt change, the fact he was in a community with people playing happy families, which he never had, was a big enough change for him. This is when he’s oh so kindly reminded that hes still that little boy from the beginning. not having to deal with his anxious habits for such a long time has meant that he’d forgotten how. the amount of people trying to make him feel welcome and the way he felt trapped was too much to handle for him, he’d prefer to be out there.
he’s grateful for aaron, aaron NEEDS daryl to be out there. Daryl is not useless.
however, there are still plenty of times where he feels like he is. when occasional meetings are held, there have been many times where daryl has had to subtly leave, feeling the pit in his stomach grow too powerful, feeling like he could throw up from how anxious he is, he knows that that’s the telltale sign of his body about to have a panic attack and he’d rather die than be seen trying to manage that. sometimes he’d try to stay and get through it but carol notices the deep breaths he takes to try to calm himself and the way his fingernails have gone purple. it makes it so much worse when someone notices.
He knows it’s strange that he feels more at peace when killing walkers and spending time in the forest rather than being in a safe home with a warm bed but, he’s not used to that, he never had that and he doesn’t feel like he deserves it but he does, he’s been deserving of it way before the outbreak.
——————————————————————————
I might write a lil Drabble thing where the reader gets to know daryl and his nervous habits and they help him??

Not a request but the new Daryl Dixon show is so good 😛. Like the whole time he grunting and groaning 😍
daryl's groans and grunting is revolutionary, no one can change my mind. this man completely rebuilt my whole idea of a "material man" and i love him for that 😍

something is so intense and so passionate to think about daryl with a girl who is just like him, experienced such a shitty upbringing, abuse, so closed in her shell, introverted. someone who just pushes people with all the power left in her the second she senses it's going something further, something not anticipated.
daryl couldn't understand you first, being completely unaware that you are HIS reflection in so many ways.
there'd be nights where he'd watch you fall asleep and couldn't understand even in a million lifetime how you thought you didn't deserve love, a tender touch. he'd repeat in his head that you aren't a bad person nor somebody who doesn't care about affection. everybody does in deep down. he had to do this to keep sane, to always have you for himself. this is a huge element to your relationship, you try to look as tough as possible yet both of you understand a basic human craving. and you show it. whether with your secret glances aftermath of a life-death situation or overhearing people talk about you two.
this was extremely hard to manage at the end of the day. daryl doesn't want to lose you, neither do you. you'd push him and yell at him and have loaded fights about this. however, god forbid if any of you said a thing that made it plain you actually care about eachother. anytime he'd be running late to you from a run, you'd rush over to rick. beg him to send out you to look for him, yet he'd never let you. the amount of times daryl did this was countless aswell.
he'll always be by your side, so will you.

You coughed for the millionth time, seeking your hand to cover your mouth as you leered through your brows at the crowd infront of you.
Your raspy cough caught Michonne's attention as she turned her head lightly to your side, her hands loose on her sides due to thirst and hunger.
"You alright over there?" She worried.
"Ahem." You made it out through your chapped, sore lips and moist eyes as you simply nodded. You scrutinized your surroundings, goosebumps swarming through your entire body in contrast to the heat of the south. You were left behind from the others, leisurely dragging your feet along as you hoped you'd make through the day until you'd find a roof to sleep under.
Michonne turned her head down, observing her shoes as the group halted on the side of a road and you thanked the one who suggested it.
You didn't bother to check to see what they were up to as you collapsed to a pavement, your palm reaching the paving stones eased your fall. You placed your elbows on your knees, your left palm massaging your forehead wretchedly.
You spotted Daryl's boots drawing near you from your semi-shut eyes. You raised your head, feeling dazed due to holding your head high too much. You lowered your head as he knelt down infront of you, grabbing your kness softly to get strength for his position.
You observed his face, dark circles shaping under his eyes and were you so sure you had them, too.
"You look awful." You joked with a withered voice escaping your mouth.
A pityful smile tugged on his lips as he lingered his eyes through your soul. He had been perceiving you all day long, how you'd grown more tired with each passing hour, how you'd been burning up; yet resisting it with the very less brittle power left in your body.
He lowered his head
"Brough' ya water." and passed you a bottle of water that was on his pocket.
"Save it for Judith." You spoke low, putting your hand on the water bottle to push it away as you eyed the others from the corner of your eye.
"She dun' need water."
"She need' formula."
"Sum' damn baby food."
He uttered in a deflated tone. He broke the eye contact, behelding the woods as he kept resting his hands on your knees.
"Plus, yer burnin' up." He shifted his gaze to you with heavy-lidded eyes.
"I'll get through this, too." You assured him, putting a constrained smile upon your face.
"Like hell ya ar'." He disdained as he heaved out a long sigh. He got up, looking down at you.
"Don't make a fuss about it." You hissed under your breath, making sure no one else heard it. A brief silence passed like a decade as you glared at him with stern eyes. His posture didn't shift after all, not taking in to process anything you said. You felt all your boldness flowing away as he didn't seem to give your words a second thought.
"Screw you." You bellowed in a tone above whisper when your hands met on your lap, drawing your knees to your chest as you looked away.
"I'ma talk ta Rick." He grunted, maintaining the eye contact he just forced you.
"And then what?"
"There 's gotta be sum' cabin I know of 'round here." He uttered, scrutinizing the area with his smokey eyes.
"I'm not so sure... After all that cannibal sensation." you huffed as you started scribbling the ground with a damp twig. Your whole journey was about this, escaping the what so-called safe sanctuary terminus.
"We got real far off." He shrugged his shoulders, the water bottle swinging on his fingertips as he eyeballed the others. His eyes met with yours.
You simply heaved a sigh, whimpering under your breath to the unbearable aches on your joints and entire body. You lifted your head, not uttering a word. You were very well aware of your condition, sweat beading your neck mixed with dirt repulsed you with nausea.
"I ain't jus' gonna sit 'ere and watch yea torture yerself." He stated with furrowed brows. You, once again remained silent as you lowered your head at your doodles covering the soil.
A part of you would give worlds to stick to one place with roofs and a tender bed with pillows for a while, yet it wasn't the time nor the place to mull over for such self-centered ideas.
You ran your fingers through your hair as you hunched your shoulders. You refused to gaze at him, though you felt his penetrating gaze sticking through you.
"Tha' wound ain't gon' heal itself, neither." He mumbled, resting his body weight on his left leg.
"It's just grazed me." You shrugged your shoulders, embracing your legs even thightly with your left arm. You wished to be as small as possible, as invisible as possible.
He stood there with complete silence briefly, seeing that you weren't lifting your head even an inch to meet with his gaze nor saying anything else, he left you there. You heard him exhaling abruptly.
You observed him approaching Rick from the corner of your eyes as you shook your head in apace as if it'd heal your maddening migraine. You screwed your eyes shut, resting your forehead on your knees as you gradually let go off your clutch on the twig.
All you could hear was your shallow breaths along with the muffled conversations from your people that wind carried all the way to you.
You opened your eyes. It was almost like your wide-eyed gaze gave you your five senses back. You were suddenly sweating buckets, though sane part of your mind notioned it was like that all along. You leered at the center of your shorts zip and your hair obstructing a clear view when you heard shallow footsteps drawing near you.
You raised your head, saw Rick looking down at you with his hands on his waist.
"Damn, you look awful." He exclaimed in a raspy voice owing to thirst.
You failed to find strength in responding back so you stayed put, waiting for him to talk again. You sighed as you spoke
"It isn't safe."
You noticed Daryl rolling his eyes lightly as he shifted his position.
"You got Daryl." Rick remarked with self-confidence.
You slouched your posture, locking your eyes on the opposide direction.
"C'mon." Daryl grunted as he reached his arm to grip you by the biceps.
"I can't." You breathed out as you shook your head and gave him a stern glare.
A brief silence as no one said a word.
"Y'ain't gon' do nothin' but slow 'em down." He growled, getting looks from the group, some of them you'd just met a few days ago.
"Come on y/n. Daryl's right." Rick mumbled, inattentiveness bearing his features.
"I got it." Daryl huffed under his breath to Rick.
Daryl clucthed you by the biceps with his firm grip as he held his other hand close to your waist.
You couldn't comprehend how sitting down for 5 minutes had an unbelievable impact on your body as you almost toppled over him. Your legs were practically useless as Daryl caught you by the waist and lingered through you with his smokey eyes. You leered back at him through your lashes, failing to find the might to speak.
"We'll catch up with you all in a few days." You mumbled as you turned your body towards them, your right hand was over his shoulder, he held your hand securely.
"Well, don't you look like shit." A new bulky ginger guy called Abraham uttered, sniggering under his long ginger mustache.
"I've heard that many times today." You forced a smile as you narrowed your eyes at Michonne and Rick friskfully. He scoffed tauntingly with his girlfriend.
"Ain't yea a chatter now?" Daryl quipped low, not loosening his grip on your hands as Rick approached you. You rolled your eyes, craving nothing but to spend atleast a day in a safe cabin.
Your hair danced with the breeze as you tucked strands of it behind your ear. Rick started walking to your direction as he passed you a pistol, giving you an assurring look then shifted his attention to Daryl.
They exchanged silent agreements by nodding their heads consecutively. A wash of safeness washed all over you.
"Can ya walk?" He inquired with cautious eyes incase you'd lie.
"I'm fine." You whined as you started walking toward the woods, peeking a glance at the others for the last time.
You strolled through the woods, then a hilly, then a road. Your head felt like exploding at the heat, sweating buckets hence leaving your body sticky.
Your undertaking of not letting out moans due to your pain grew to fell short swiftly.
"Where is this cabin, Daryl?" You puffed sharply as you halted in the middle of the road.
"Ain't so far." He lifted his shoulders, scanning the area.
"Can we stop for a minute?" You asked, glancing through your brows as you put all your effort to maintain your heaving chest.
He clattered a sound to indicate it was ok. You tossed your backpack to the ground as you sat down on the warm surface.
Your placed your hands on your knees as you observed the area.
"Should'n be out in the open like dis." He spoke, lifting his brows to scrutinize his surroundings with a wrinkly forehead.
You kept quite as your head sagged on your shoulders out of lassitude. You squeezed your eyes.
"Hey hey, stay wit' me." He rushed next to you, taking out a water bottle out of his backpack.
"Need yea ta stay hydrated." He muttered as he cupped your neck softly. He passed the water bottle near your lips, almost forcing you to drink. You heaved a sigh and wiped your mouth with your thumb.
"Gon' cook ya up a nice squirrel or sumthin' once we get there." He joked.
You creased your brows and painted a smile on your lips.
"I'm good with anything as long as it's not a snake." You uttered tauntingly. A sense of darkness hovered his features as if he was insulted and it passed within seconds. You sat like that for quite a long time.
Your flu got worse by the time you got to the cabin. Plus, it was almost like you were at the brink of a seizure with your wound on your leg. Daryl had to carry you all the way down to the cabin, safe to say you were slowing him down.
Your bottom lip trembled as he put you on the bed, tucking the hair behind your ear that was soaked with your sweat. Your eyes were heavy-lidded, seeing only a blurry view infront of you.
His eyes darkened as he observed you with concerning eyes. He knelt down on the wooden floor, opened the backpack's zip in a rush and took out the rain water he stocked earlier that day. Thankful thoughts lined in your head to the rain, your friends most likely benefited from it aswell.
He got up and placed the jar on the broken table. He scanned the cabin in a flustered manner as he patted his hands on his denim jeans.
Daryl made his way to the thin sheets laying on the floor and cut a piece of cloth and rushed back over to you. Your gaze followed his every move.
"Dis ain't gun' do much."
"Still, better than nothin' " He spoke to himself as he inserted the cloth into the jar, making sure it absorbed the liquid equally.
You looked over him, your eyes fighting to hide behind the lids. You swallowed dryly as he came near you. Water droplets were sliding down his forearm to his elbows and to the floor. Goosebumps flooded through your entire being as some of them hit your skin.
He pushed your baby hairs aside, placing the soaked cloth on top of your forehead. He gazed upon you, then your clothes and how incompetently you tried to cover yourself up.
"That ain't gon' fly." He huffed as he pushed the covers aside.
"I'm cold." You whined, eyes semi-shut. You weren't aware of your surroundings, condition and Daryl being with you. You tried to grab the covers to your chest.
"Yer burnin' up." He grunted as if to correct you.
A moment of bickering passed with him persuading you.
"Might wanna lose the shirt, too." He spoke.
You whined once again as he didn't let you utter a word. He grabbed the hem of your shirt as your fixed your posture, the cloth on your forehead fell on your lap. He grabbed it and tossed it on the table.
"Sit up." He stated.
You got strength by your knuckles from the mattres. The bed sinked under your weight as he pushed the table aside. You
raised your arms up high as he took off your shirt and helped you lay on your back. Your teeth chattered as you rubbed your arms on your biceps. A wash of despair washed all over him as he felt useless, that he couldn't do more.
He observed you for a while, contemplating what more he could do. He then, made his way to the end of the bed and started taking out your boots. He held you softly by the leg and tossed them to the ground. A groan of relief escaped your chest.
You raised your head lightly, getting strength from your elbows and chuckled at the scene.
"What a caretaker you are?" You joked as your head fell back.
He mumbled a "Stop." as he came next to you, a subtle smirk tugging on the corner of his lips at your teasing words.
He put the cloth in the jar and let it sink to absorb more water. His attention shifted to you as he sat on the edge of the bed. One could sense that he was in a huge dilemma, that he wasn't completely sure which course of action to take.
You swallowed dryly once again. He reached for your hair, your eyes widened at him. He clattered an "Sssh." between his lips without looking at anywhere else besides your hair. You had to lift your head for a brief moment. With stiff and an upright neck, did he grab all of your hair in his fist and spread them on all over the pillow. Your hair was no longer sticking to your back and neck and you sighed in relief at the feeling.
You lyed down as you crossed your hands together on your stomach. You peeked at him with weary eyes, so did he. His attention spaced out to the wall as you uttered after observing him all the way down.
"Help me sit up?" He turned to you, immediatly grabbing your torso with his big hands and helping you sit up without questioning. He couldn't help but ponder in his head how you'd heal quickly if you didn't try to be the tough one once.
Your fingers digged his bare shoulders as you groaned out of pain. You raised your head to meet with his gaze. You could sense the hesitation on his features as he looked back and forth between your lips and eyes. Safe to say, his hesitation wasn't because of your sickness but because of your potential reaction. He, then let go as he leaned forward.
"Ew, no. Disgusting." You grimaced as you pushed yourself away from his touch and leaned back on the wall.
You avoided an eye contact as he came closer on the bed, forcing you to look at him. You finally gave in and stared upon him, face rosing with heat.
His hands clutched you by the side of your faces and slowly leaned in for a kiss once again. You didn't pull away this time, letting his balmy lips leaving you overstimulated and shaky. So many thoughts, worries ran through your mind. You didn't want him to get sick if he hadn't already catch it, yet you could never resist his touch, his lips. Your face loosened at the feeling of his body against yours. Your grip on his left wrist fell loose as you breathed out after a short kiss.
He gazed through you for a hot minute before he got up.
"Sleep." He grunted as he grabbed his crossbow that was hanging on a hanger.
"Get sum' rest."
"I'll be in the front." He uttered before leaving the cabin

You lied down as you crossed your hands together on your stomach. You peeked at him with weary eyes, so did he. His attention spaced out to the wall as you uttered after observing him all the way down.
"Help me sit up?" He turned to you, immediatly grabbing your torso with his big hands and helping you sit up without questioning. He couldn't help but ponder in his head how you'd heal more quickly if you didn't try to be the tough one once.
"I'll be in the front." He uttered before leaving the cabin

this is sequel to one of my very first fics here which was requested by @kissmeunicornbaobei
so make sure to read that one first!!
Summary: So they finally convince to take this girl into the prison, not much is happening just some grumpy daryl and a sassy y/n lol
A/n: i've been reading fanfics here for quite a while now though my first fanfic was a first narration fic and the second one was "y/n" but it's not "you" pronouns it's literally "she/her"... i tried to reduce using y/n cuz it sounds ear-grating when you don't use it with "you" soooo don't mind it!! i'm still an amateur :))
Warnings: bruising because of daryl's harsh grip on y/n's arm lol, also idek if its because i love me some sexual tension between strangers, there are some "accidental" grindings and them touching eachother without meaning to soo

Y/n could hear their muffled conversation as she was ambling away to the other direction. She was wending her way rather slowly, blood rushing to her cheeks everytime she contemplated her odds out in the wilderness where one couldn't have a better chance of surviving all alone.
She debated the worst possible scenerio inside of her head. Her body started to tremble lightly due to her self-pity. She pulled her drenched hair aside, breathing out at the sultry feeling.
The heat wave hitting the side of her posture were rushing from the woods. She halted suddenly as she could swore her body was evaporating like a machine off of factory.
She exhaled exasperatedly when she put down her backpack on the ground and kneelt beside. She took her leather jacket off, her arms soaked in sweat. She lifted her head to two men as she coughed softly. They turned to her stopping, eyeing her down.
"Fuckin' punks." She shook her head as she grabbed a tin can out of her bag that was designed for liquor, uncorking it. She could get a whiff of the algae-infested odour and even take a peek at it. She shaked the can over her mouth, a few water droplets sliding down her tongue.
"Ugh." She grimaced as she tossed it to the ground. She had no water and she didn't know where she could find some. She wiped the sweat beading her forehead with her wrists and screwed her eyes shut to prevent herself from weeping as those men were observing her. She could feel her cheeks burning under the heat as she sat down in the same position, still.
Her ears caught the attention of delicate footsteps drawing near her, one of them must be approaching me; she got hot inside of her head.
She raised her head as her fingers shifted to her neck, scratching it lightly. She felt the dampness of her hair on her hand and a sense of repulsion washed all over her at the feeling. One of her eyes were shut tightly because of the blazing sunshine. Her hand shifted to her forehead, shielding the sunshine as she pressed her lips together.
"What now?" She hissed as she gained strength from the burning ground with her palms, knee and got up, facing Rick. She avoided eye contact and leered at the woods with crossed arms
Rick narrowed his eyes at her, his annoyance growing thicker with her attitude.
"This is my last offering." He stated, squinting his eyes at her as if to force her to look at him in the eyes.
Y/n's eyes caught his piercing gaze as she remained indifferent.
"Now, you ain't gonna survive out here 'till you find a clean water source." He huffed, gazing at the woods with an exaggerated manner.
"Which is very unlikely." He remarked, shifting his gaze at hers. A vague smirk appearing on his face.
Y/n observed him and Daryl behind.
"I say let 'er do whatever she damn pleases." Daryl snapped airily as he sensed her judgemental glares and unpleasant body language.
He came closer, his eyes scanning Y/n the entire time. Even when he came next to Rick, he didn't take his eyes off of her. Daryl had placed his crossbow on his hands.
All of them exchanged hesitant glances. Y/n could feel her heart pounding on her ears as she tried to maintain her heaving chest.
"C'mon. Let's go." Daryl uttered low, grabbing Rick by the shoulder lightly, patting it two times swiftly as he turned around. A look of disinterest flickered across his face, feeling bummed out with her attitude towards their efforts of helping her. Rick stayed put. Daryl sighed audibly as he turned the other way around to face the two of them.
"Look, if she wanna go and die by herself. Fine." Daryl barked, becoming enraged with both of them.
"Ain't my problem." He added low, his eyes fixated on Rick.
Rick leered at him, trying to convey a message with his eyes and turned to Y/n when she spoke.
"I'll come with you." She said in a rush, her chin up as she wasn't looking neither of them in the eyes.
Daryl and Rick exchanged subtle glances with lowered eyelids. They finally broke her, scraped off the persuasion and bullheadedness.
A few minutes passed like years when all of them approached a red sedan with dirty windows, smeared muds half dried.
Y/n glanced at Daryl and Rick from the corner of her eyes as she reached out her hand to the door handle.
"Do you have more belongings from where you come?" Rick asked, interruping her action with furrowed brows owing to the sunshine obstructing a clear view. She looked at him, not taking the strands of hair infront of her face and shook her head. She felt Daryl leering at both of them on her shoulders and swiftly turned on her tiptoes. Daryl wasn't paying any attention to her as if she was a graveghost. His eyes were locked on Rick's and Y/n turned her head slightly to the side and saw Rick nodding.
She felt her heart skipping a beat as she glimpsed back and forth between the two. She remained silent as her lips twitched for a hot minute. Her hands met behind her back, close to her hips as she attempted to appear at ease.
Y/n peeked at Rick's hand reaching his back pocket on his jeans. She exhaled vaguely. She eyeballed Daryl without moving her head at all and shifted her hand near her pistol case. If anything were to unfold at that moment, she was helpless more than ever. She couldn't take out two men, not while being stuck between two of them.
She felt her palm sweating and trembling. She peered both of them back and forth without blinking an eye. She was inhaling from her mouth, seeking to be as plain as possible.
Daryl looked at her, eyeing her up and down as he took a few steps forward and grabbed the handcuffs that was thrown to him by Rick.
She froze, shrugging her shoulder as she withdrew her hand to her side. She couldn't help but let out a frustrated chuckle.
"You gonna handcuff me now?" She fumed with the last bits of energy left in her body.
Daryl remained apathetic and moved forward towards her. His irritation towards her was evident. One could detect it just by glancing at those stern eyes of his.
Y/n didn't shift her position. Her mouth was slightly ajar with a hollow look bearing her eyes. She developed a small hunch with the weight of her backpack and the startlement caused by their abrupt decision.
She chuckled nervously as she stared Rick, trying to convince him otherwise with her absent-minded gaze. Though it was vain, he was the one to throw the handcuffs first after all.
She shifted her eyes to Daryl who was standing only a few inches from her.
"You still think I'm a threat?" She uttered in disbelief, regaining a better posture as she processed the gravity of the situation.
"In a damn ride, hell yeah." Daryl insisted, smugness features dancing on his face to dictate they were the superior in that exact moment.
"It's for precaution." Rick declared, his hands were on his hips as he rested his body weight on his left leg. His gestures and body language were indicating a huge inattentiveness, already unengaged with the entire hustle.
Y/n sighed, unwilling to resent as Daryl grabbed her by the biceps with an unyielding clutch.
She shook her arm to free herself while glancing at him with an intense glare. She turned around and leaned against the car as her backpack slided off her arms.
Daryl came closer and gripped her wrists firmly. Y/n sighed exasperatedly at the flamey feeling of the car against her bare skin. Her upper torso was bent over slightly so that Daryl could handcuff her. She rolled her eyes and heaved a sigh as she ducked her head, leaning it on the car while feeling Daryl's jeans brushing against her bare legs.
"Is this really necessary?" She spoke tall, placing her chin on the car with fatigued, barely opened eyes; causing Rick to lift his head at their direction.
"It 's with ya." Daryl grunted behind her ear as he let go off his obstinate clutch and yanked the handcuffs to check incase of something unfolding that could catch them off guard.
She winced softly at the pain of metal hitting her skin as she eyeballed Daryl from the corner of her eyes with furrowed brows. She straightened her back and shook her arms lightly as Rick opened the door for her.
His eyes followed her gaze in an apologetic way, indicating that it wasn't personal. She tried to get seated in the car clumsily due to falling out of kilter with her hands combined with a handcuff behind her ass.
Rick closed the door, leering at her through the dirty car window as he sat on the driver's seat. Y/n looked down at the window crank that seemed to have been replaced for an automatic one. There was no way she could open it with her hands.
Y/n's eyes met with Rick's on the rear-view mirror. Rick figured out her struggle right away as he opened the passenger's seat window by the crank and mumbled to Daryl who was standing infront of the door.
"Daryl."
Y/n spotted his head gesturing backward at her as he started the car. Daryl tossed his crossbow on the passenger seat as he moved next to the backseat door and opened it.
Daryl got inside of the car and placed his fist on the backseat, the seat dipping under his weight as he moved his body close to hers and reached out to open the window manually.
Y/n leaned back to the seat in a rush, a sensation of being exposed washed all over her followed by the feeling under an abnormal threat towards his body. She found herself being unsure of the appropriate course of action. She sat down there in a peculiar silence, being lost with words to utter and actions to take.
The actuality of her hands being strapped behind her -now starting to hurt- didn't make the situation better. She thought, she could embrace her arms around her or inspect her nails instead of leaning back stiffly as all her view was Daryl and the odd chaining sensations of defenselessness.
Blood rushing to her cheeks rosed them with abashment. She was feeling like a highschooler infront of a guy she had a huge crush on, once again, though that phase ended some time ago and the new world order didn't resemble anything in the past.
Daryl's hand grazed her soft thighs as he pulled himself away. He didn't seem to mind nor notice. She heard him grunting "Virginia summer." under his breath to Rick as he got out of the car and sat on the passenger seat.
Y/n felt as if getting back to life with her steady breaths and leaned-forward posture. She loathed at the thought of her weakness towards him when he didn't seem to be bothered at all.
She sensed her body functioning the way they should at once when the engines started. She slowly swallowed her dry spit and found herself leering at the back of Daryl's head when her eyes met with Rick on the rear-view mirror and she halted with the piercing gaze through Daryl.
The dust particles and the stimulating breeze were merged with eachother in the sickening heat of the air. She licked her lips and started observing the walkers that they were passing by.
She squinted her eyes now and then, having nothing at her hands to prevent dust particles and her own hair getting into her eyes, causing them to water and burn.
The ride went on like this with the offbeat silence when she heard another grunt from Daryl. She was pulled back to Earth with his voice, turning her weary eyes to him.
"Here." He uttered with a grey bottle of water in his hand, reaching it out to her. His eyes remained on the road for a second or so and then shifted to her.
"Ya ain't had water in a good while now."
"God knows how long." He assumed while some of the water droplets spilled down the center console of the car due to poor, gravel roads.
Y/n peered back and forth between him and the water bottle with self-sorry going through her veins. She hopped on her ass to sideways to come the center of the seat as if she was bouncing on a ballon.
She leaned forward, her neck going even further so that her mouth could get a good grip around the water bottle. The water bottle shaking and spilling water everywhere didn't make the situation any better. She, once again, felt self-sorry washing all over her like lightenings off of a feral storm. She creased her brows at Daryl when he extended the water bottle further.
Daryl's grip and stance got firmer to make it easier for her to drink it, though it was helpless; water started running down her chins to her thighs and t-shirt. She kept drinking the water, not knowing where to lock her gaze on. Her eyes met with Daryl's eyes observing her lips cautiously. He, then, shifted his gaze on hers and shook his eyes lightly, making the situation even awkward.
Y/n looked down at the water droplets on her t-shirt when Daryl pulled the water bottle away and as she raised her head to make an eye contact with him, he inquired.
"Wan' sum more?"
She nodded her head as she reached a bit further and started gulping down the water as an odd eye contact formed itself between the two of them. Funny was the new world, a redneck stranger feeding her with water. He darted away his eyes to Rick as he started driving the car slower so that she wouldn't choke on water.
He withdrew the water bottle, placing it in the backpack laying on the front of his legs. Y/n leaned back as the wind blowing at her face dried off the water on her chin and left the neckline of her tanktop damp.
She made out the reason why neither of them were saying a word to eachother was due to her presence in the car. She was astounded that they didn't even bother to blindfold her. Her suspicion grew thicker as they were in the car for 20-25 minutes long.
The car halted infront of a prison with a big yard.
"This explains the handcuffs." She complained under her breath as Rick and Daryl stepped out of the car.
Y/n felt her chest heaving for a hot second when her eyes spotted Daryl approaching near the car door and opening it.
She leered at him with narrowed eyes owing to the blazing sunshine obstructing her view behind Daryl's head. He didn't say a word as he leaned infront of her and grabbed the backpack that was sitting on the dirty rags covering the floor.
He mumbled something to Rick as he slunged the backpack filled with guns and magazines. He eyeballed y/n with an uninterested glare as he gripped her from her left forearm and yanked it.
"C'mon." Daryl uttered as he clutched his crossbow and scanned the area incase of a walker in the perimeter attacking them.
"I can't do anything within your walls." She huffed, scrutinizing the people glaring at the three of them. Everybody stopped what they were doing at that moment to gaze at them intensely. There was a big garden and a small fence with a few pigs wandering inside. An old man who was an amputee walking along with an asian boy closed the distance between them and the fence.
The old man approached the fence even closer and put his left hand on it as he held his crutches on one hand. Y/n rejected glaring at him, following unwritten morals even in that moment.
Daryl walked toward the gate, still gripping her arm; not paying attention to his harsh grip. Y/n turned her head around to see Rick looking at her. She tilted her head lightly, an undertone of apologeticness and annoyance flickering across her eyes, she halted while doing so when Daryl drew her towards himself roughly, causing Y/n to bump into him as if to fall down.
She regained her balance, glancing up at Daryl.
"Watch where yer goin' ." He scowled, looking at her up and down as if she was the one at fault.
"I would if you-" She complained, only to be interrupted by his words to a small kid with a cowboy hat.
"Help yer old man." Daryl uttered casually, not looking at the kid as he pulled her by the biceps to get her walk behind him. His eyes sternly fixated on the second gate, a road that seemed endless with a slight hilly.
Y/n peered down at her biceps, seeing Daryl's knuckles whitening. She took a deep breath, her hair dancing in the air as he walked aggressively, y/n having to follow his steps.
"I'm not some kind of a cage animal you asshole." She hissed loud, her brows furrowed out of anguish.
She endeavored to free herself from his rough clutch, whimpering quietly under her breath. Her face started to cramp owing to the faces she made, aiming to get him let her arm go.
He kept the distance between them as he opened the second gate with a set of keys that was hanging on his belt.
"That's it." She fumed, shaking her arm furiously with all her power. She freed herself from his grip, glimpsing down at her biceps and seeing it bruise slightly.
His eyes caught hers as he moved forward swiftly and yanked her by the forearm, this time not so harshly.
"Those handcuffs ain't comin' off 'till Rick decides what he's gon' do wit' ya." He spoke low, walking past the gate with her besides him. The attention on them grew denser. People not even trying to conceal their inquisitive eyes with shovels and bowls on their hands, stopping in the midst of their daily errands under the wrathing sun.
"He was the one willin' ta take ya in, anyhow." He grunted, finally halting in the center of the concrete yard surrounded by poorly situated prison buildings, watch towers and many more.
"So, you're like his bitch?" She teased, aiming to enrage him. To her thought, he couldn't act out infront of all these people, some looking rather sensible.
Daryl spun his head to her, not minding the curious eyes and the whispers that the wind carried all the way to them.
"I ain't nobody's bitch." He hoarsed inside of his mouth, leering at Rick coming from behind who was joking with the little kid with loud chuckles.
He turned his gaze back at her. A wide grin was bearing her face with her left brow arched.
"Hmmm." She mocked, swaying her body softly without realizing as Daryl gradually let go off her arm when Rick started talking.
".... Now we got a new survivor." He added to the words neither y/n and Daryl decided to tune in.
"She isn't gonna stay in the cellblocks for now. For precaution." He remarked, turning to her and slightly raising his right hand to her, indicating it wasn't personal.
She shrugged her shoulders at his words, being extremely disinterested until Rick uttered his final words to the crowd surrounding them.
"Get used to it, people." He peeked at the kid next to him and sniggered as he placed his hand on his shoulder.
Daryl was a few inches behind y/n when her attention fixated on Rick walking into one of the buildings.
"Hey." She uttered, taking an attentive step.
"Tell your henchman to uncuff me." She narrowed her eyes after observing some people grinning slyly while others seemed taken aback.
A subtle smirk tugged on her lips when she begged.
"Please."
Rick's eyes shifted an inch or so to Daryl and nodded his head softly. She turned her head aswell, aspiring to see an unsettled and incensed Daryl only to not.
Her smirk vanished subtly, though she aimed to not make it evident when Daryl came close her from the behind and yanked the handcuffs.
She didn't try to look at him uncuffing her hands owing to the fact that she felt ludicrous. An odd minute passed when she felt the alleviating sense of free wrists and drew them to herself to massage them.
Daryl scanned her with a penetrating stare as he dropped the bag on the ground cautiously. He shifted his gaze to the gate and started ambling.
A blonde girl with a baby in her hands started approaching toward her when she scrutinized the area with a blank stare.
