Hello, I just discovered your blog and I love the way you paint skin and hair so much, its just the right amount of detail and always looks like I can reach in and touch it. It’s so easy to make skin and hair overly complex but I think you struck a perfect balance of detail and simplicity :D

But my actually question was that to was if you had any thoughts on Leona’s brother, both his personality and appearance? I’m starting to get worried we are never going to see him in the game 😭😂

First of THANK YOU SO MUCH SWEETHEART!! this one actually took me some time (mostly cause I keep changing my mind A LOT), and I had to rlly sit down and brainstorm farena without going fully back to Leona in the first five minutes. (It was hard)

ANYWAYS.

My thoughts on Farena Kingscholar

A lot of what we know about Farena is through Leona comments on him, but, based on what we see developing in all boys from twst, I take my own guess that Farena is not exactly like Mufasa.

APPEARANCE: Regal but Approachable.

I tried to lean Farena’s design into royalty, but in a way that still feels grounded and a bit more simple, like everyday clothing he would be wearing.

I headcanon he got most of his facial structure and build from their father, but his hair color is 100% from their mother (my other hc is that while he looks like dad, leona looks like mom). He wears his hair in three braids — two at the front and one longer down the back. To me, it feels like the "classic king" style in Sunset Savanna. Not exclusive to royalty, but definitely traditional and symbolic. He’s also more comfortable in traditional clothing. I headcanon his wardrobe as a mix of East African (especially Kenyan and Tanzanian) patterns and silhouettes, blended with the fantasy touches we see in the in-game Sunset Savanna designs + some Lion Kings colors and details. While Leona tends to modernize cultural fashion, Farena leans all the way in. It's part of who he is, and he wears it with pride, tho I simplified it the best I could cause if I had to do full tamashina Mina clothing again I would literally lose my hand

(I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS POST BY BUNNWITCH THO, I read it after I've done this to be more impartial while writing BUT I FOUND IT AMAZING AND IM GLAD I CAME TO THE SAME CONCLUSION)

Cheka, by the way? Total mini-me of Farena. Same bright hair, same coloring, same energy. I imagine the only major visual difference is their undertones — Farena’s skin reads warmer, while Cheka’s might lean more neutral/olive tone. But overall, the resemblance is STRONG.

PERSONALITY: Friendly, Firm… and Frustrating?

Here’s where things get more layered. On the surface, Farena is the textbook definition of a “good king.” He’s bright, warm, welcoming, and knows how to naturally work a room. People like him — he’s someone you’d want to share a meal with or sit next to at a festival. He clearly loves his family and his culture, and you can tell he genuinely wants to do right with both.

But being a good person and being a great ruler aren’t always the same thing.

Farena’s biggest strength, and flaw, is that he’s all about stability. He’s not someone who takes big risks or pushes for radical change. He’s the kind of guy who will keep things running smoothly and make sure the capital stays calm and content, but more than often Leona points out that his benevolence might come at the expense of "political astuteness". If a problem isn’t right in his face? He might not notice it. Or if things seem fine, he’s probably not going to question it too hard. He likely sees himself as continuing his father’s legacy — Same advisors, same policies, same steady hand.

This mindset probably makes him a decent ruler during peaceful times, but also someone who unintentionally ignores the cracks forming underneath. It’s not that he doesn’t care, he just might not see the need to shake up the system when the surface still looks calm.

The Leona “Problem”

The dynamic between Farena and Leona is complicated and honestly sad as hell. Farena clearly cares about his little brother. He’s always reaching out, trying to include him, trying to keep him in the family loop. But from Leona’s point of view, he is a little too much for him. He often describes Farena as "noisy" and always eager to care for him, indicating Farena's persistent efforts to connect, but we see Leona purposefully ignoring him, only answering his sister in law out of respect.

Leona was never raised to be king. And once Farena was chosen as heir, Leona was more or less sidelined. Not out of cruelty, but because that’s just how the system worked. That exclusion, paired with “public” opinion that idolizes Farena and tended to criticize Leona (tho not much as he thinks), created this massive resentment. Farena’s constant “brotherly” gestures might come from love, but Leona can’t help but see them as patronizing, exacerbating his sense of being overshadowed.

To make things worse, Farena probably doesn’t really understand where Leona’s coming from. He’s the golden child who got everything handed to him, and he never had to fight to be heard. So when Leona has ideas, even though Falena does recognize his brother's talents, he might brush it off as immature or idealistic, not realizing that Leona has a full-blown vision that just needs support.

I sometimes compare Farena to a grown-up Kalim: super nice, super loving, but a little too comfortable to recognize the full emotional picture. Kalim can’t see Jamil’s resentment, and Farena can’t grasp Leona’s. It’s not malice — it’s emotional blindness.

Final Thoughts

Farena Kingscholar is one of those characters who seems simple at first: charming king, loving dad, golden child, but gets more complex the more you think about him. He’s a product of a system that favored him, but he’s not arrogant about it. He’s kind, possibly generous, and genuinely tries to do the right thing. But his comfort in the status quo, and his inability to really see what Leona’s been through, makes him unintentionally frustrating.

Still, you get the feeling that Farena is trying. He’s doing the best he can with what he was taught, and even if he stumbles, his heart’s usually in the right place.

Bonus: He's really into being a brother-in-law 😭💪🙌
