do you ever think about how ratatouille successfully taught people that anything can be possible no matter your upbringing was and that you have to detach yourself from your given roles in life and just live and create without giving in to other people’s expectations of you and that the greatest things can come from the most unexpected sources and that you have to be the change you want to see in a world and that not everything is about survival and going from one day to the next and that the difference between doing and achieving is being fearless about it by just letting some rat pilot a guy named alfred linguine for a 2 hour movie

How to start again ✨
delete apps and social media that lowers your mood
wear a new scent, throw away things you don’t need, delete contacts of people who make you feel unworthy, unfollow social media that makes you feel bad in any way
make a new playlist that makes you feel confident and happy
in a journal, write down why you want to change, the traits of the person you truly want to be, the places you want to go and people that make you feel inspired
write down the things that stop you and bad habits you have, and replace those with new mindsets and habits
before you sleep, make a detailed, achievable routine for the next day, that includes everything you want to do, including activities that genuinely make you happy
try new hobbies, like baking/cooking, playing a musical instrument, making art, learning a new skill, a sport, or a new language. you can easily get free resources online
think about the ideal version of yourself. you can be like that, if you try your best and work hard.
do not overwork yourself or set overly lofty daily goals and forget to do things like drink water. make your sleep and health your number one priority.
spend less time on your phone scrolling through social media. have a method of focusing on other things, like Pomodoro method or using the Forest app.
if you can’t concentrate, commit yourself to doing it for 5 minutes. once you get into the flow it’s much easier to concentrate.
be patient and kind with yourself. it’s hard to change overnight. you’re the only one who can help change you, so be a friend to yourself.
once you start something, promise yourself you will finish it.
have new weekly routines, like going to a cafe every Wednesday afternoon or indulging in your favourite tv show every Friday night.
do not deny yourself of good things; there needs to be a balance. similarly, do not be too generous and overdo it too much.
dedicate a day to clean your room and organize your things if you feel stressed out.
it may feel scary to change, as you may feel like it’s not the real you. but you’re still you, just the best version of yourself.
have a relaxing morning routine to look forward to, like making a nice breakfast, having a skin care routine, stretches, journalling, or thinking about nothing for a few minutes
have a mental image that makes you excited to do something. visualize yourself completing the goal and concentrate on it every morning.
however, learn not to rely on motivation because your brain will often turn off motivation, especially when you first begin something. have a routine, a specific time to do something, and do it.
notice the places and people that drain your energy, and try to avoid them. find people who make you feel energized and places that calm you.
think about an enjoyable part of something. for example, when studying you can look forward to learning new things and when exercising, listening to calming music or using nice stationery. it’s actually more fun than you think.
even though it’s hard, don’t compare yourself. you’re on your own path, and it doesn’t matter if people are better than you, because there will always be someone better than everyone. don’t be afraid to suck. so draw badly, write bad poems, run slowly, make embarrassing mistakes and fail everything. you can’t be good at something unless you’re terrible at something first. and doing anything badly is so much better than doing nothing.
don’t tell anyone about your new beginning, just start and let the results speak for themselves.
you can change and be your ideal self. but it will be hard to do that if you don’t believe in yourself. so make sure you challenge negative thoughts telling you can’t do something. tell yourself firmly that you can do it and then prove your negative thoughts wrong.

In the spirit of the 2nd amendment --
let everyone who wants a gun, have a gun. But let’s remember that when the 2nd Amendment was written, our forefathers were using muskets, right? So have a mandatory trade-in. Muskets for all!
Because NO ONE is talking about the fact that the guns today are vastly different than the guns of yore. I think if they could have foreseen the mass shootings of this day and age they would have drafted the 2nd Amendment much differently. As it is, they must be looking down upon us with horror.

I saw a post talking about how Terry Pratchett only wrote 400 words a day, how that goal helped him write literally dozens of books before he died. So I reduced my own daily word goal. I went down from 1,000 to 200. With that 800-word wall taken down, I’ve been writing more. “I won’t get on tumblr/watch TV/draw/read until I hit my word goal” used to be something I said as self-restraint. And when I inevitably couldn’t cough up four pages in one sitting, I felt like garbage, and the pleasurable hobbies I had planned on felt like I was cheating myself when I just gave up. Now it’s something I say because I just have to finish this scene, just have to round out this conversation, can’t stop now, because I’m enjoying myself, I’m having an amazing time writing. Something that hasn’t been true of my original works since middle school.
And sometimes I think, “Well, two hundred is technically less than four hundred.” And I have to stop myself, because - I am writing half as much as Terry Pratchett. Terry fucking Pratchett, who not only published regularly up until his death, but published books that were consistently good.
And this has also been an immense help as a writer with ADHD, because I don’t feel bad when I take a break from writing - two hundred words works up quick, after all. If I take a break at 150, I have a whole day to write 50 more words, and I’ve rarely written less than 200 words and not felt the need to keep writing because I need to tie up a loose end anyways.
Yes, sometimes, I do not produce a single thing worth keeping in those two hundred words. But it’s much easier to edit two hundred words of bad writing than it is to edit no writing at all.

in honour of "i don't want to do my assignment" here are the top 15 things my engineering profs have done over three years as an undergraduate:
- walked in 10 minutes late with a steaming cup of coffe "sorry I'm late but believe me you did not want me to come without coffee"
- forgot to schedule a midterm and when we asked about it was like "??? I thought you didn't have midterms here?"
- on his birthday, brought in a plate of cake offered it to us because "I don't like it but you can't tell the faculty"
- answered an email at 5am with "good evening Allie, "
- tripped on the desk so hard he had to sit down and then was like "that's why I'm an engineer not a ballerina"
- was frusturated about lack of participations while solving an excersize, sat on the floor in front of the board and said "I can stay here for the 53 minutes we have left of class, unless you guys tell me what the next step is"
- one of my profs was plotting with us to steal the other prof's copy of a really obscure dynamics book because "it's not fair that he doesn't share
- one day we were walking into uni and the prof was walking out and we were like "don't we have class with you in 10 minutes?" and he ws like "shit okay" and he turned around. I don't know if he lost track of time or was running away.
- one prof came up to me in the cafeteria to ask me for a favour and his friend (another prof) was like "poor thing, she's going to get sick of you" and I still don't know if it was directed at me or my prof
- one prof said "I see you guys more than my parents" and I was like "I see you more than anyone" and he was like "I'm so sorry"
- one prof "accidentaly" uploaded a picture of his co-worker (another prof) riding a bycicle to the class file area
- scheduled an extra class and when we all showed up was like "I didn't prepare anything, I didn't think youd come"
- when one of my classmates got really insistant that he was right (he wasn't) my prof put a peice of chalk on his desk, whispered "then you give the class" and walked out and everyone was like "you dipshit" but also happy because we had an exam later
- brought a bag of candies to class and threw them at people who answered questions
- got frustrated in the middle of an exam because everyone was solving the problem incorrectly and started giving a class right there

that Brian Eno quote about how whatever you find most repulsive about a medium (film grain, record scratches/fuzz, CDs skipping) will be the first thing you try and emulate once that medium is obsolete because it's "the sign of a moment too powerful for the medium assigned to contain it".... man.......

My Personal Character Files: The 6 Box Method
This is for my science fiction WIP, so some things may need to be added/modified depending on your genre. I will also include a screenshot of an example at the bottom so y’all can see how I set it up in my Doc.
1. The Quick Ref
I use this as the first page of my “Character FIles” Doc.
I put all my important characters in a list, then add their height, age, and the page their complete file can be found on. This is helpful when I need to know if a character would have to crane their neck upward to look another character in the eyes. Comes up more than I’d have guessed.

2. The Individual Profile: 6 Box Method
I add and subtract stuff based on how important the character is. Without further ado…
Box One: Reference Photo
This is where I add in any actor, model, drawing, etc that I base the look on. When I don’t need one, sometimes I’ll put in a picture that represents the character’s style.
Box Two: The Introduction

“If Bacchus ever had a color he could claim for his own, it should surely be the shade of tannin on drunken lips, of John Keat’s ‘purple-stained mouth’, or perhaps even of Homer’s dangerously wine-dark sea.”
