A Look at the Birchwood Project
Tumblr media
Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, David Abele is a licensed Realtor and real estate professional with over two decades of experience in the industry. He currently guides the ARESI Group, a real estate network that offers buying, leasing, and property management, among other services. David Abele is also the founder of the Birchwood Project.
The Birchwood Project comprises two elements: philanthropic goals and a luxurious private resort. Its aim is to establish both a summer retreat cabin and a boutique lodge in a secluded natural setting miles away from civilization, with the objective of promoting access to the calming and healing benefits of vacationing in a wooded area with a lake.
The Birchwood Project Lodge will serve as a luxury vacation resort. Executives and family groups who are looking to connect with each other in an exquisite, secluded setting will be able to rent the property for unique retreats. The proceeds generated will fund the development of The Birchwood project's summer retreat cabins.
Families with critically ill children will be able to temporarily stay at the summer retreat cabins at no cost. Situated in the Brainerd Lakes area, the cabins are a short distance from medical facilities in Brainerd, St. Cloud, and the Twin Cities area, ensuring easy access to emergency care. These cabins are scheduled to launch in the summer of 2024.

Exposure to Nature Hastens Healing
Tumblr media
A Realtor from Minneapolis, Minnesota, David Abele leads ARESI Group, a team of professionals that delivers personalized services to all levels of real estate buyers, sellers, and investors in national and international markets. Deeply involved in philanthropy, David Abele established The Birchwood Project, a lakeside vacation site that offers opportunities to children facing medical adversity and their families to experience the healing power of nature for free. At the Birchwood Retreat, guests can enjoy excellent accommodation while escaping the stresses of urban life. The revenues collected by the resort are used to fund The Birchwood Project Retreat that houses medically challenged children and their families. Studies have proven that exposure to nature hastens healing. The earliest known study of this kind was conducted in the 1980s. Patients at Paoli Hospital in Pennsylvania who had gallbladder surgery between 1972 and 1981 were studied. It was observed that although gallbladder surgery is an uncomplicated procedure, it took most patients one week to fully recover while it took others two weeks. The discrepancy was analyzed, and it was found that on one side of the hospital, rooms faced a brick wall while the other side faced a corridor of trees. It was later concluded that those who viewed the trees healed faster. Psychologists have explained the healing power of nature through the Attention Restoration Theory, or ART. Urban settings are draining because they force people to direct their attention at many different tasks. Such demands are absent in natural environments. As a matter of fact, nature demands very little from people. The stark contrast between manmade landscapes and nature becomes obvious: urban settings inundate people with stimulation, while natural environments give the human body the opportunity to replenish, regenerate, heal, and recover.

CCRF’s Dream Further Campaign Reaches a Milestone
Tumblr media
David Abele, a Realtor licensed in Minnesota, Nevada, and California, leverages more than two decades of real estate experience in leading a team in Minneapolis, the ARESI Group. ARESI maintains a network of realty affiliates in key destinations throughout the country. On top of his professional undertakings, David Abele supports charities that deal with childhood cancer, such as the Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF). CCRF started as a little-known fund dedicated to research efforts to fight childhood cancer. In 1979, a 13-year-old girl with leukemia named Katie Hageboeck donated her savings toward a 10-speed bike to CCRF. In honor of its 40th year, CCRF launched the Dream Further Campaign in early 2021, aiming to raise $2 million to be dedicated to survivor research and care coordination. By November, Dream Further reached its goal, thanks to the passion of CCRF’s supporters. Members of the CCRF board have committed to matching the $2 million. With $4 million available, the nonprofit will establish the Katie Hageboeck Clinic and Innovation Fund. Meanwhile, the cancer survivorship and care coordination will begin immediately at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital.

Bridging on People Looking for Housing Stability
Tumblr media
Minneapolis-based philanthropist and Realtor David Abele brings over 25 years of experience in his industry in leading the ARESI Group, a real estate team that has active engagements with national and international clients. David Abele supports local charities in Minnesota, such as Bridging. Bridging was established in 1987 by Franz Heitzman, a custodian at Pax Christi Church in Eden Prairie. One day, he received a piece of used furniture from a congregant. Since there was no room in the church for it at that time, Heitzman called a social service agency that might know of a family that would need it. This gave birth to the concept of Bridging – finding a home for used pieces of furniture and secure housing for people in need. A study conducted by researchers from St. Catherine’s University sought to analyze the impact of Bridging on people looking for stable housing. The study, entitled ”From Housing Instability to Home: The Effects of Furniture and Household Goods on Well-Being,” made a qualitative evaluation of Bridging by interviewing 20 clients and 15 partners. The researchers found that housing stability is as important as emotional well-being. Some of the respondents were social workers who had experience with Bridging some 10 to 15 years earlier said that their Bridging made a huge difference in the quality of their lives, such that they were committed to helping other people similarly situated. They added that the comforts offered by the furniture they received from Bridging made them realize what they were missing. It was also highlighted in the study that a network of social services that provide access to furniture and household goods is critical in a successful housing support program.

Accelerates Discovery of Cancer Treatment
Tumblr media
David Abele, a realtor based in Minneapolis, holds a license to practice as an agent in Minnesota, California, and Nevada. His team of real estate professionals at ARESI Group delivers personalized services. Actively involved in community service, David Abele supports the Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF). CCRF maximizes impact investments for cancer research, particularly childhood cancer. In the spectrum of research, the stage between the early part of the study and when the new drug finally gets to the market is often unfunded. Known as “the valley of death,” CCFR aims to bridge the gap. Thus CCFR uses impact investments to fund studies conducted by OS Therapies Inc. and Oncoheroes Biosciences. OS Therapies Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that seeks to find treatment for osteosarcoma, a difficult-to-treat type of bone cancer. CCFR said that investments in OS Therapies will come from the Zach Zobiech Osteosarcoma Fund, managed by CCFR. The Zobiech family established the fund in honor of Zach, a teen musician from Minnesota who died of osteosarcoma in 2013. Oncoheroes Biosciences is the first company devoted to developing therapeutic drugs for pediatric cancer. It aims to find treatment for medulloblastoma, the most common type of brain tumor affecting children, and rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of cancer affecting the muscles.
