For my final project I chose to use Formal, Abstract, and Surrealism topics we used throughout the semester.

To start I chose formal by using warm(red) and cool(blue) colors with a fade beginning in the red and staying steady thru the blue. I liked the way it brought the attention to my art work below.

Then I used Abstract by including different shapes and used markers to color them in different ways bringing some energy to the project and something different. Which goes along with the story line behind my characters drawn below as they live eventful lives.

Lastly, I chose Surrealism by drawing two characters, Cartman and Kyle, these two are best friends who live in the same town and do tons of things together. They enjoy playing outside at their school playground and video games with their other friends.

Overall, I had an amazing time this semester learning different ways and designs of art, and I had a blast creating this masterpiece.

This is awesome! I love the Bonnie’s wolf with wegmans can! The background brings the focus to your character and catches our eyes. I love the colors used makes the art pop.

Final Project

For my final project, I combined cubism, abstract expressionism, and surrealism. In the top half of my project, I used the geometric shapes and fragmentation of cubism. I wanted to create a stained-glass window effect with this aspect of the background with the thick black outline contrasting against the bright colors of the shapes.

In the bottom half of my background, I used the random abstract qualities of abstract expressionism. I wanted to layer materials, lines, and marks to contrast against the more organized rigid manner of the cubism half of the background. I wanted to create a fun, vibrant, creative background with a lot of lines and shapes along with demonstrating contrast between two different movements.

For the central focus of my project, I created a character inspired by the surrealism movement. Using scraps from magazine pages that I have used from prior collages, I created the character, Bonnie. I used a variety of items to create a weird, unique, and imaginary character rooted in the characteristics of the surrealism movement.  I used the phrase “End of the Road” to represent the end of the semester. I also thought this phrase was especially fitting as it is the end of my final semester of undergrad! Thank you for a great semester, this class was so much fun!

I like the colors you used and background design chosen. The inclusion of cutouts make the art work unique and brings it to life, great work!

For my final piece, I decided to incorporate futurism, cubism, and the Italian renaissance. With that, it took a lot of thinking how I’d make it all work and be visible to viewers. For cubism, I decided to draw many abstract shapes into my background and by then coloring the inside with different colors. I felt this would make the rest of the piece pop with different colors.

When implementing the Italian renaissance to my piece. It felt important to put it in the middle of the canvas to make that the focal point. After cutting out the human features, I drew the other half of the face like we did this year and tried to make it as realistic as possible.

Lastly, using futurism was the easier of the parts as it filled up outer space of the piece but popped out like the rest of the piece nicely. I felt that it was an important piece of this semester in analyzing nature versus technology to see how much the times have changed today.

Final

For my artwork I made a background using paint on a canvas. I was inspired by the cubism unit when creating the background. I used familiar shapes like circles, squares, triangles etc and then also incorporated made up abstract shapes in all different colors.

In the next part of this artwork, I was inspired by the unit on abstract expressionism. I wanted to use a different medium so instead of paint I used a fine point marker for this step. I made abstract shapes and lines to add to the canvas. After finishing with the marker, I went back to paint and used the technique of splattering. The last material I used for this part was sticker gems to add to the abstract of the piece.

In the last part of my piece, I created a character inspired by my work from the surrealism movement. This character is similar to that of Frank from this unit. I used paint to create him and marker to add his facial features.

I made my puppet by using a water bottle and attached two colored pencils to act as arms/hands. I included a cut out of an MLB jersey and face cut out to bring my puppet to life, to balance his body out, I gave him boots. Attaching a piece of tape to the back of the puppet allowed him to be mobile and enjoy the song. My puppet is Starr, he enjoys playing golf when he has free time and would like to go to the moon.

I chose “like no other” to refer to my childhood with technology, as a child we were introduced to many new forms of technology, iPods, new smart phones, something our parents weren’t used to when they were our age. I remember getting an IPod and it was an awesome feeling, you were able to talk to your friends, play games or listen to music while on the road too, and experience like no other.
