8th - 10th Century Large Raised hand beaten bronze Javanese Talam diameter: 45 cm Trays such as this were using in offerings and rituals in pre-islamic Hindu and Buddhist ceremonies and even as part of the daily routine.  The tray has a beautiful green patina which has been caused by the acidic volcanic soils associated with Java's high tectonic activity. The incredibly clear engravings are stylised lotus flowers. (at Mayfair)
