I want to offload some Sailor Moon Merch...

No idea if there will be any interest, but I have a few various doubles and extras I’d like to get rid of from my Sailor Moon stash. Primarily small stuff like gacha, candy toys etc. Since I’m in Australia, I’d really only want to be posting domestically, or to NZ or Asia...Anywhere else the postage is going to be way too expensive. Pretty much I’m just wanting to make back what I paid for these - I need the space!! I have a few Uranus and Neptune and Outer Senshi themed things, most of it is Moon and Chibi Moon (those tend to be the extras usually).

Thank you! I love hearing from others who share my doujinshi proclivities. I have been building up this collection for a long time though (about 8 years now I think). Also for finding older stuff I recommend relentlessly stalking Mandarake and Suruga-ya, best places these days.

Seriously that Utena wine glass is sooo pretty! Luckily I saw a post someone shared on Facebook (I don't even have a proper Facebook, only an account I use for keeping up with collectable stuff, as sad as that is) and was immediately like, Must Have!!

It's a Premium Bandai item, and I have been checking their site regularly for new Utena stuff, b/c they have been releasing a few items here and there, but this never came up in my searches :/ I guess maybe cos it's an adult item technically?

Despite the fact that I’m kind of poor right now, I had to go ahead and order these beautiful preciouses. I didn’t even know about the Utena liqueur and wine glass - thank goodness I found out late Thursday so I still had enough days left to get a preorder in. And luckily found a buying service who got it for me quickly and didn’t care I was ordering alcohol (it is okay to import alcohol into Australia anyway, so I shouldn’t have any issues getting it sent). I’ve also been taking Japanese classes, which has been really fun! I did an accelerated Level 1 course over the Summer break which I’ll be finishing in a couple of weeks, and I’ve already signed up for an accelerated Level 2. And with my very basic knowledge, I’ve started trying to read Studio Canopus’s Outer Children (with the help of lots of online translators). Since I’m still only a beginner it’s very slow going, and very rough (there’s definitely things I don’t quite ‘get’), BUT at least I can do enough to get a very general idea of what’s going on, which is hugely exciting. I Got Some Fan Art!

The Kissing Hand sent me these awesome fan arts through the mail. The first one is inspired by the scene from Ch. 8 in All the King’s Horses where Michiru’s Aqua Mirror shows her the Space Sword, and the second is some cute sketches of Haruka and Michiru. These are really fantastic and I’m so happy to have them!

Let Me Just Talk about Sailor Moon Releases for a Moment...

So this is another entry in the never ending series of I’m a huge collector nerd, BUT Madman has made some interesting changes and announcements with their Sailor Moon releases. The article can be read here: https://www.madman.com.au/news/sailor-moon-comes-to-blu-ray-for-the-first-time-in-australia-new-zealand/ (Yes, this news came out a while ago but I’m only catching up with it now, due to still being kinda behind on a lot of stuff). Anyway, the upshot is, that Madman is now going to be doing their own Blu-Ray release of all 5 seasons of Sailor Moon, using the materials from Toei’s recent Japanese Blu-Ray release, not the Viz release. This is still not a true HD remaster, due to the original films no longer being available, but by all accounts, it is better looking than the Viz Blu-Rays. Madman will be continuing with their DVD releases as well, in a style consistent with the earlier releases, but they’ve said they’re planning to use Toei’s new remaster for Season 4 and 5, rather than the European Masters they used for the earlier seasons. (Fans seem to be divided as to whether Toei’s remaster or the original European Masters are better.) Once they’ve re-released the first three seasons on Blu-Ray, Madman has said they’re planning to release 2 part DVD sets and Blu-Ray sets alongside one another for the last two seasons.

I Went on Another (Actually Several) Sailor Moon Doujinshi Benders

This year has been really busy for me with work, which has the disadvantage of leaving me with not as much time as I’m used to having, BUT it also means I’ve had a lot of disposable income, and what else would I like to do but buy loads and loads of doujinshi? I also had corrective jaw surgery on my lower jaw about six weeks ago that I’d needed for a long time, and the fact that I had all this time afterwards where I was pretty much just sitting around at home feeling tired and not up to much meant I had way too much opportunity to go online and shop for fanbooks - Also I finally got up the courage to create my own Surugaya account and use a Japanese forwarding address, so that has made it a lot easier and cheaper to buy from them whenever I want. These are just a few of the goodies I’ve gotten my hands on recently from various sources.

Alice Books Purchases:

Alice Books is a Japanese online store that sells new doujinshi, and they do international shipping! The only option for international customers is credit card payment, which obviously won’t work for everyone. I’ve placed two orders with them so far, and these are the total purchases I received:

These two. Day Dream Tastes Bitter Sweet is a Minako x Yaten pairing, which I don’t really go for, BUT, I do love Starlights-centric books, and the artwork and story in this one is really beautiful. Plus I will take any and all well-drawn pictures of Yaten / Healer, just give them to me now. This book actually has a companion volume, which was sadly already sold out on Alice Books, but I managed to source it elsewhere and it should be getting delivered soon! Astral Box Second is, obviously, Harumichi. It’s primarily a text story, but I really like what artwork it does have.

These three. These are all by the same circle. Q_A is a really cute story centred on Sailor Pluto and Chibiusa’s friendship, with a bit of Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion thrown in. The other two revolve around the Inner Senshi and Sailor Moon. They were all super cheap, so I was like, why not?

Studio Canopus’s latest. This is a text novel that’s a “honeymoon” story about Haruka and Michiru set after the end of the S Season. It came with a few extras, including a postcard and some Studio Canopus Times newsletters.

Romantic Revolution Titles:

This circle was quite prolific for a while on the Harumichi front during the early to mid 2000s. Their works don’t seem to be particularly sought after, but they also don’t come up for sale that often, which makes them a bit hard to come by. I really adore their work, so I was happy to add all these to my collection.

Works by Mee! Off Gumi:

These are old 90s era Sailor Moon doujinshi. This circle did a whole series of Sailor Moon doujins with variations on the name Full Moon Flower Mirror, including three H & M books that were specifically all about Haruka and Michiru. The two pictured at the bottom here are Full Moon Flower Mirror H & M and Full Moon Flower Mirror H & M II. (Still on the lookout for H & M III). The one at the top with the pink cover is, I think, called something like Full Moon Fight - it’s based around the events of the S season and features both the Inner and Outer senshi. Some books by this circle are available to check out on Miss Dream’s website (though some of the accompanying/listed information about them is not very accurate). See:

I don’t know too much about this circle, other than the fact that they produced some really nice Sailor Saturn books. This is a reprint book that actually contains three different stories. They’re very atmospheric and close to the anime style of artwork, and we also get a fair bit of bonus Haruka, Michiru and Setsuna content.

Superlovers by Gold:

I believe I’ve posted pics of this one before, but it has a kind of interesting acquisition story which I don’t think I’ve shared. Gold is the circle name of two people who go by the pseudonyms of Shanghai Lily and Hong Kong Marie. They produced a handful of Sailor Moon doujinshi in the 90s, all of which are now pretty rare and expensive. I think at least one half of the circle went on to produce a successful professional manga of some kind. I think they only made two books centred on Haruka and Michiru, this one and another one with a fully red cover which I don’t have. Anyway, titles by this circle will typically sell on Mandarake for upwards of 3000 yen (pretty steep for a single title), and they don’t pop up very often, but my copy I picked up for a few hundred yen off of yahoo auctions a couple of years ago. I actually didn’t know anything about the title or the circle at the time, I just thought it looked like a cute book, and no one bid against me so I got it really cheap. And it is a really cute story, so I’m even happier that I was able to get it for such a reasonable price.

Some single miscellaneous books:

Birthday is recent-ish, from 2012. It’s not very explicit, despite being labelled as an adult book. Haruka and Michiru go on a cruise, and are all dressed up and pretty much just stand around kissing and cuddling in the moonlight (all of which I thoroughly approve of as doujinshi material). Then there’s a text story, and finally a very short, sweet story where Haruka and Michiru are in bed together. The whole thing is adorable from beginning to end, with really great artwork.

The book in the middle with Sailor Uranus on the cover is from the 90s again. It’s primarily a text story, though there’s a number of really beautiful drawings of the outer senshi throughout. I get the impression this is a Silver Millennium story focused on the Outers, and I’m pretty sure this particular circle produced quite a few Sailor Moon books. I only just got this delivered today, so I need to do a bit more research to figure out exactly what I’ve bought, lol.

Strawberry Candle is a really pretty illustrations only book made by one of the manga assistants who worked on the Sailor Moon manga. There are illustrations of all the Inner and Outer senshi and the Starlights, as well as characters from a bunch of other anime. It’s a really lovely book, but I’m not gonna lie, I got it mostly cos I wanted the Outers and the Starlights.

So yeah, those are a few of things I’ve bought recently. I’ve also been working on expanding my Monster Pharmacy and Mad Tea Party collections, I’ve actually got a lot of books by both these circles now, I just couldn’t be bothered to take them all out and photograph them. I’ve had A LOT of fun getting all these, kind of the perfect hobby for convalesce after surgery, and my total collection is now sitting at just over 200 different doujins.

JB Hi Fi was/is having a sale of 50% off all their Hanabee anime titles, so I decided to get in on that and buy a bunch of different series, some of which I’ve never heard of. Sakura Trick I’ve watched before, and it’s terrible, so, so terrible, but I decided to get it for my Yuri library anyway. RWBY is something I’d like to check out, From the New World I’ve seen bits of before and I think it will probably be My Kind of Thing, though I know it’s very depressing (and it has a lesbian relationship where one of the girls ends up getting with a guy because That’s Just What You Do (I think, anyway, from what I remember watching ages ago), and that’s a pet peeve, but we’ll see how I go). The others I’ve never heard of, but who knows? I have high hopes for Tsuri Tama, which is apparently about an angry boy learning to fish and make friends. I’m kind of betting it will become my favourite of the bunch.

New Utena Chapter in Flowers Magazine

Tagging @genderqueerharuka who asked me to say something about my copy once it arrived! So as some of you may know, there was a new chapter of the Utena manga that appeared recently in Flowers, a monthly manga magazine released in Japan. As one might predict, the magazine was really popular and sold out quickly (at least it did on Amazon Japan and CD Japan, probably the two sites most accessible to Westerners); I managed to snag a copy off of CD Japan and thought I might share a few photos and a rough run-down of the what the story appears to be about (keeping in mind I can’t actually read Japanese, so I’m going purely by the visuals). Here is the cover to get us started:

First thing I’ll say is that this magazine is a lot bigger in size than I thought it would be. Look how FAT this thing is! Obviously, only a very small chunk of that is the Utena story. All the rest are chapters from different manga by various other artists.

The magazine is also quite a big bigger in size than a regular manga. Here’s one of the old Utena manga paperbacks for size comparison:

And now onto the story. It’s the first chapter in the book, and we have a couple of pages of adverts for Utena related things (including what looks like an Utena-themed cafe? Why must I miss out on all these amazing things?)

And then this gorgeous double colour spread with the title of the chapter - After the Revolution

We open at Ohtori Academy, see someone giving a speech, and then see Touga talking on the phone to Saionji. Skip ahead a few pages, and we see that Touga has decided to go explore Akio’s old tower, where he runs into Saionji again.

They start exploring and come across this old photo of Anthy and Akio, presumably from before they came to be as we knew them during the events of the manga and anime.

Right, some stuff happens that I’ve left out. There’s several pages of a flashback in which Touga is young and wakes up in a hospital bed. He gets out of bed, finds young Saionji, and the two go wandering around the hospital and find young Utena lying in her coffin (presumably this takes place just after the accident that killed Utena’s parents). Young Utena awakens and sees a vision of young Anthy being tormented by the swords. Then we’re back in the present; Touga and Saionji are arguing and end up being transported to the dueling arena where they get into a fight. Suddenly rose petals start to fall from the sky...

...And Utena appears (I think a vision of her rather than Utena herself).

Touga and Saionji stop fighting and continue exploring the tower. Eventually they come across a creepy bed and a creepy nude painting of Anthy.

Akio is apparently unimpressed at Touga and Saionji disturbing his private Anthy porn collection, and his ghost/spirit appears and attacks Saionji. It seems like a duelling ring appears (perhaps sent by Utena?) Touga puts it on and is able to defeat Akio.

The painting changes to become a picture of Utena and Anthy together, looking very gay.

As Touga and Saionji look at the new painting, we get another vision/glimpse of Utena and Anthy together.

...And then on the last page we see Touga and Saionji walking away with their arms around each other, looking as gay as Utena and Anthy.

All in all, it’s pretty freaking epic, and I love how gay the whole thing is. Very glad I got it!

I stumbled across that one by chance, but it was an immediate purchase as I actually had a few random scans from that book I found years ago and really liked the look of the content. I don't recognise all the artists, but from what I can tell, there are quite a few well known circles represented - Hello World, Jesus Drug, Morinaga Milk ... It is a High Quality Book.

Lol, I was so proud of myself for tracking down that Harumichi Moon World Correspondence doujinshi ... Been on the lookout for it for a while, but anthologies are hard to find without being able to search for the Japanese titles. Managed to find it on an old database where the Japanese symbols were included as graphics rather than text, so then just played around in google translate until I matched the symbols, and then copy & paste and found it pretty quick.

Had a few things come in the mail today that I couldn’t stop myself from buying. More Disney Q Poskets!

Big size Rapunzel was super cheap (like, 900 yen); found her on Amazon Japan for that price b/c she supposedly had ‘box damage’ ... Box arrives and it’s perfect. Like, if it had actual damage I wouldn’t have cared anyway, esp. not at that price, but it’s always funny when Japanese stores do that.

Poor Outer Senshi have temporarily been somewhat misplaced. The little petit Q Poskets are adorable.

And I got two more doujinshi anthologies b/c I’m kind of obsessed with them. The Utena one (Bara no Kakumei / The Revolution of the Rose) has a lot of really lovely stories, including a Juri/Shiori one that I really wasn’t expecting. The Haruka/Michiru one is called Moon World Correspondence ... I wanted it cos I knew it had a Mecca story in there, though as it turns out, it’s a story that has been published elsewhere as well anyway. But there’s a lot of really nice Harumichi works in there, including a long-ish dramatic/angsty story by Kiseki Museum centreing around the hunt for pure heart crystals and the talismans, which was a delight to find.

I got Belle from my friend cos she knew I loved her :) And I think the Big Belle is pretty cute tho! I read how lots of people think she looks weird cos compared to the other princesses, she looks nervous (even my mom commented on this) and I felt a bit miffed. I adore her! lol.

Her skirt looks very puffy, like a cake. And the details of the layers from beneath is great (this enables her to stand without the base) - such a shame it’s not visible if you don’t turn her…*if you don’t turn her around.

The petit series are cute but they’re so smol… Oh, and I have the regular color Belle. I think your Ariel is the special coloring? She looks a bit shiny.

Rapunzl.. THE HAIR IS SO AMAZING. I’m not really a big fan of Rapunzl but if I get her it’ll be worth it cos the braid details are fantastic, with the little flowers. I’ll probably display the backwards lol

When I looked at the Disney Q-Posket line up I was pleasantly surprised cos I’m not a fan of the Sailor Moon Q-Posket, you see, and those Disney Poskets are beautiful <3

When I found out these figurines were meant to be UFO catcher’s prize rewards I was stunned. So well made for a crane game!

I like how I keep saying Rapunzl instead of Rapunzel I guess it’s obvious enough that she’s not my favorite princess hahaha #honestmistake

I do think they made an odd choice for Belle's expression - maybe they were going for pensive and went a bit overboard? But she's a very lovely figure. I wouldn't really worry if other people don't like her as much - as long as you're happy with her and get enjoyment out of having her I'd say that's by far the most important thing. Yes, I got the special color shiny Ariel. But I'm getting the regular color Rapunzel since I like her slightly darker coloring. Haha, I agree Rapunzel isn't my favourite Disney character (or movie), but I love the figures they've made of her, and purple is my favourite colour so I had to get her! I'd love if they made Merida and/or Moana. Or Meg from Hercules! Hercules himself was pretty annoying, but Meg was awesome.

I always thought the Sailor Moon Q Poskets looked kinda weird and didn't get any. But these Disney ones are really cute! And Banpresto is even releasing a couple of figures in the Q Posket line from Yuri on Ice (not out yet but soonish) that look promising. Lol, the petit ones are smol, but at least it will be easier to find a space for them!
