Kdrama: 8 Reasons to Watch “The Man Living In Our House”

My new crack drama isn’t getting a lot of love, but here’s 8 reasons why you should give “The Man Living In Our House” a try:
Tired of weak-willed, wishy-washy heroines? Here is your remedy: Na-Ri is an extremely successful employee (a flight attendant, obviously the current fad) and a woman who is strong, opinionated, and smart. She is really, really easy to like, and has faults that you can relate to.
Tired of non-existent, manufactured romance? Na-Ri and Nan-Gil start from a strange space (the fact that he is her “stepfather” almost stopped me from watching this at all, and was a rough go, at first) but it’s real, unique, funny, and the chemistry is off the charts.
Tired of couples who dance around the issues, never saying what they really mean? While Nan-Gil would hide and dance around the issues forever, Na-Ri calls him on it, and brings their relationship to a healthy place by being honest about her feelings and helping Nan-Gil admit his and allow himself to enjoy it.
Tired of women not being able to handle a breakup? Na-Ri does it all brilliantly, from the reason for her breakup, to how she handled it, how she got over it, and what she said to her ex when he came crawling back.
Tired of evil secondary female characters? OK, I’ll admit I want to pull out all of Yeo-Joo’s hair on occasion, but she’s played very well by Jo Boa: the character is not one-dimensional, and we are starting to discover the fears that drive her - and there are a lot of them.
Tired of the same old plot lines? Well, the heroine is not a Candy, the second male lead is not a total nice guy (in fact, he is appealingly odd and not at all transparent), and there are plenty of twists and turns - from a tattooed back to a push down an embankment to a fall from a rooftop. Each episode just seems to add to the questions.
Tired of froth with no substance? I love the way this show explores different types of family: what makes a family, what doesn’t, how families work even when they appear not to, how they can both scar and heal.
Tired of watching idols struggle - and usually fail - at acting? Su Ae, Kim Young-kwang, Jo Boa, Lee Soo-hyuk, Kim HJi-hoon: all of them are doing a fabulous job, and not an idol in the bunch. Yay! We need to support this rare bout of reasonable casting.
