Thinking about this again. Still. Mostly have come to a place of like…idk regret that I made someone feel bad enough when offering advice/criticism that they felt they had to say that anonymously. I don’t think it’s a good way to establish a dialogue, or get someone to look at their actions and change their mind/behaviour. The internet is already anonymous enough that it’s hard (for me at least) to maintain relationships. The additional distance of a message I cannot respond to privately even to apologize sucks.
It makes me wary to receive anon messages to begin with, because it’s so often how hate arrives in your inbox. So I’m already on the defensive. And I’m a hot headed person by nature. I type without thinking stuff through all the time. It’s something I’m working on. But it’s continued to make me sad to think this message is from someone who ostensibly follows me enough to read my work, yet didn’t feel safe to approach me more personally with their grievances. I want to be a safe person to be around even if (especially if) we disagree.
So, like. If you’re out there anon: shit takes me a minute to process sometimes, but I do listen. I am listening. And I am sorry this was the only way you felt you could approach me.
You have an incredibly sharp mind for storytelling and analysis thereof. Your writing is some of the best I've ever read and I deeply enjoy seeing where you'll go with it.
At the same time, your tendency to be overly critical of other people's creative ideas makes them less likely to actually share something they're excited about, because it feels like you'll trash it. There's a fine line between important criticism that can enhance a story, and being overly critical because you think you're smarter than the person you're talking to/know better. You are decidedly on the latter side sometimes.
It's ok to not always be right.

Fandom doesn’t feel like a community anymore. Not the way it used to. Maybe this is a me problem. Maybe I’ve become too unpalatable to keep around, to respond to. Too Much, as usual, in a way that has always been true in person but used to be acceptable online. It sure seems that way some days.
Kind of embarrassing to be pathetic on main, but it’s my blog, so. Whatever. I’m just sad, and lonely, and mid-transition. Navel gazing over.

Honestly don’t understand anon hate. Why would you follow someone whose presence you clearly don’t enjoy? What’s the point?

older I get the less interest I have in explaining myself to people who aren’t even important to me. if you want to misunderstand me or create a narrative in your head about me that’s really not my problem… I know who I am

are there any fics you've left on the cutting room floor?
A couple! Assuming you mean for Rhaenicent which is my most recent fandom, I have:
- a pretty solidly plotted out western au engaging with the Underground Railroad pre-civil war, Chinese immigration to the west, and gender, sex work, and anarchy in frontier societies that will probably never see the light of day.
- Queen Rhaenys double lavender marriage scenario with blood magic bastard babies.
- epistolary lesbian historiography via Rhaenyra finding/being given Queen Rhaena’s old journals as a wedding present from House Strong, set in the 10 year time jump.

if you're writing and find yourself thinking 'this is too weird/gross/offputting/esoteric/ambitious/catered to my specific interests + sure to push away a broader audience' that is the devil speaking and it is a lie. you are already firmly on the right path and you need to double down

I’m going to be honest, now that some time has passed: I didn’t take this very well. It made me feel like sun-baked shit. If that was the intended effect, anon, I can say sincerely that you knocked it out of the park. Good work.
There’s a persistently petty part of me that never wants to write again where you might be able to derive enjoyment from it. From the labour whose quality comes from my own application of the overly critical behaviours you have indicated above that you despise to that work you also indicate you so admire.
That being said, I’m truly sorry I ever made you feel condescended to. I have years of training and some professional experience in story structure and media criticism, but that’s not an excuse to be a dick. And I don’t want to be a dick. If I have been, which I don’t deny is a possibility—far be it from me to deny the reality of your experiences—all I can say is that it was not my intent.
Have a nice day.

“there is no democracy in any love relation: only mercy”
This one haunts me, thank you
i think the only meaningful ship typologies i’ve ever had are “to think of hell itself as redemption’s home” / “a ghostly second self to work out all my discontents” / “there is no democracy in any love relation: only mercy” / “he is not of their kind; i believe he is of mine.” / “a dependency of equals is best.” i’ve probably been into ships that fall outside that but not many and no non-annoying way to categorize them
