                𝑯𝑬  𝑾𝑨𝑺  𝑨  𝑴𝑨𝑵  𝑶𝑵  𝑨  𝑴𝑰𝑺𝑺𝑰𝑶𝑵,  zooming  through  the  aisles  of  the  grocery  store  for  the  sole  purpose  of  acquiring  a  single  pint  of  rocky  road  ice  cream.  the  location,  though  practically  walking  distance  from  his  apartment,  rarely  had  the  specific  flavor  —  one  of  the  only  flavors  he’d  actively  seek  out,  at  that  —  in  stock,  so  to  have  spotted  it  in  the  background  of  one  of  his  classmates’  snapchat  stories  was  some  sort  of  miracle.

                eyes  scanning  the  frozen  section,  his  attention  was  so  focused  on  locating  what  he  had  set  out  to  find  that  he  hadn’t  realized  he  was  pushing  his  cart  (which  made  no  sense  for  him  to  have  given  his  grocery  list,  anyway)  straight  into  a  collision  until—

                “oh,  shit,  sorry,”  derrick  quickly  muttered  before  tearing  his  gaze  from  the  freezer  doors  to  identify  the  victim  of  his  carelessness.  was  this  a  familiar  face?  he  could  have  sworn  he  had  met  her  once  before,  but  for  some  reason  was  unable  to  place  her.  “have  i—  do  i  know  you?”

they’ve never told him explicitly, but he’s almost certain that he was an accident — he’s eleven and thirteen years younger than his older brother and sister, respectively

growing up, he was practically raised by his nanny until he went to school and never really formed a close relationship with his parents bc they seemed so distant from him even though they lived in the same house 

his siblings were kind to him but they were definitely closer with each other than they were with derrick; derrick was like their baby but they were usually busy focusing on their own lives especially when they were in high school and derrick was in . preschool

his parents channeled a lot of their energy into cultivating the success of his older siblings but when it came to him they kind of just let him do whatever ?? they had zero (0) expectations for him

they just sent him to a private school n were like yep he’s good to go

when he was sixteen, his family moved to toronto because of business matters with his dad, and derrick was Not happy with that !! he didn’t have other options either because his brother was in california and his sister was in new york so he would have had to move .. regardless : ( he had made his own lil family of friends in school n it sucked to Leave The Country 

so naturally, when he was hauled into a new school, he gets Angsty and he makes almost No Friends ?? but then the natural course of .. school happens and he makes some friends but also gets into some shenanigans with said friends etc etc edgy teens n parties etc etc

so now he’s at the university of toronto for computer science but he really has no real direction in life he’s just kinda out here

kind of an asshole sometimes and i honestly don’t even think he realizes it

doesn’t really believe in love being like ... a real thing ?? he’s a huge cynic and gets into relationships just bc he feels like it 

he’s a loyal friend tho .. i’ll give him that

pretty independent ?? learned how to cook when he was like .. 8

also actually pretty gifted .. if only he applied himself ..

wears a beanie 4/7 days of the week usually

overall just a pretty chill dude who doesn’t really know what he’s doing but he’s out here doing stuff anyway

the only reason he ended up downloading the app was because he was dating this girl and she insisted he do it so they could make each other’s love alarms ring

she rang his alarm but he didn’t ring hers and that was the end of that relationship i guess LKJDSFS

he keeps the app around because he’s the type to never clean out his phone but also because it feels good when his alarm rings ngl

he’s pretty detached when it comes to like .. love alarm’s influence in society tho .. he probably couldn’t care less about the badge club
