Here is my new Character design for the final animation, I think this looks a lot more effective than the previous design and there is more expression and an even sketchier style.

My Choice of audio (“Not Enough Time”) is focused particularly around women, and what they would like to achieve in an ideal day. Instantly after choosing this audio I realised that I wanted my animation to be focused around one female character. After diving deeper into the audio’s details, I picked up on one of the ending sentences “Its no wonder that so many of us are walking around with these feelings of inadequacy given the fact that what we imagine ourselves to be doing”. I thought this is an interesting remark, and could be a good focus point for my animation.

In regards to colour schemes, art styles, imagery and movement, it wasn’t too hard to decide which direction to go in. I swiftly realised that a dark theme was in order, and so black and white was the best way to go. Style wise, I already wanted to test my hand drawn 2D animation, and it seems suitable for this project. As for imagery and movement, this needs to be a big part of what exaggerates the feelings of inadequacy. I mean this in the sense that the imagery will be a bit cold looking and the movement will move from erratic to still quit often.

Overall I know that for this concept to work, the animation needs to consist of quality drawing and a cold effect on the viewer. Alongside a relative character and a visually metaphorical approach to Tiffany Dufu’s words.

My Concept

With my choice of the “Not Enough Time” audio I want to exaggerate certain features that are mentioned, throughout my animation. For example, “Not Enough Time” is based around interviewing women in particular, and so I have decided to have my animation based around one female character that I have designed. The audio also mentions about how a lot of women are feeling inadequate and reasons for that. I want this to be a key focus for what my animation is trying to show. I am going to try and show how women feel inadequate through colour schemes, art styles, imagery and movement. I mean this in the sense that the colour scheme will be black and white, which will give the viewer a sense of darkness (inadequacy) and the imagery will be contributing to exaggerating what “Tiffany Dufu” says.

I have decided to animate this in a 2D hand drawn style (Photoshop Video Layers + maybe little bits of after effects). I want this animation to be constantly flowing between one thing to another, with 2D this is a lot more easily possible. Hand drawn animation is a lot more suitable for my concept as it allows me to be a bit more ruff with my style which is what I’m going for.

This animation looks most like the route I think I will head down for this project, however only in a visual sense. I love the colour schemes, and the way its drawn, not to mention how it flows between scenes.

I wanted to share this animation in particular as it demonstrates a vast amount of animation styles that swiftly move from one to the other. It helped me think outside the box, and makes me want to create art outside my comfort zone.

I am pretty Certain that I’m going to do a 2D animation. I feel more confident with 2D, and looking at previous work for this module, I know it can be used effectively for this project.

This animation nicely demonstrates a rounded style animation, with interesting character design.

Audio Choice

“Not Enough Time” By Tiffany Dufu.

I have decided this choice of audio for my animation due to various reasons. For example, I instantly imagined imagery more so than the other audio. Also I genuinely like the idea that it puts across, and how it puts how you manage you’re time in a day into perspective.
