THE END THAT NEVER WAS: Frontier’s original ending was far more cautionary and downbeat. In the epilogue we were to discover that Superman has been recovering on a remote island, after being saved by Aquaman. The two of them were to discuss and reflect on the madness and beauty of the human race. In the end, I decided it was too low-key and introspective. I also thought it was kinda…well, gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – just not the vibe I wanted to hit at the end of this particular tale. New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke
