I think that in real life…. Relationships r like . Your partner WILL ‘trauma dump’ on you. You will have to perform ‘emotional labor’ for your partner. Your partner will make mistakes. You will also do all of these things. The very nature of love is irrational and problematic and difficult …. To expect a relationship to be free of these things is strange to me…. The point is that your relationship to that person is ultimately worth it, and worth growing with them, helping each other, seeing the worst parts of another person and being able to love them anyway

Sometimes I wonder if the way that Janet Drake is character assassinated by fandom is related to the way that Tim is character assassinated.

Because basically no matter who you ask, you'll probably encounter the opinion that Tim takes after Janet more than Jack.

And in fanon, a lot of times you'll see Janet being portrayed as cold and calculating and that tends to get paired with "little businessman" Tim. And where you'll see him being written as a little bit more naturally cold, even in fic where it isn't portrayed in such a negative way. Like even if that behavior is being supported contextually. (Like not "bad", but still "chilly".)

Whereas in canon, in the sparse times we've seen Janet, she's been a sweet lady (and to be clear I'd like to remind people the reason we barely see her in canon is that she died before Tim was officially Robin, she was not given the chance Jack was), and Tim for the majority of his writing (of which there is a lot) is portrayed with his main standout characteristic being his compassion for people. And he has this enormous amount of friends and sociability (wherein if he has a problem it's more likely he stuck his foot in his mouth to come off as rude rather than been cold).

And I wonder if I was able to track this back, if Janet started being written the way you predominately see now around the same time people starting seeing Tim how they do when they starting focusing on the writing that was coming out when he was not acting like himself (in some cases, with the writing knowing this and it's on-purpose that he is not acting like himself, and in other cases, just blatantly ooc with respect to who his character has been and was supposed to be). This is an extreme minority of his content, but has an enormous amount of fandom focus for how little it actually is.

Like, just those characterizations feel a bit linked to me. Am I the only one that feels that way? I don't know.
