one of my favorite matchablossom headcanons has to be that teenage kojiro didn't even mean to start bulking up— like, not at first. kaoru offhandedly mentioned liking how strong adam was, how easily he catches him when he falls, and kojiro's brain, fully feral for this man, just went: "okay. strength. kaoru likes strength. maybe if i'm strong he'll look at me like he looks at that other guy too." and the next thing he knows he's at a gym with a protein shake, doing reps like his life depends on it. not even consciously trying to impress him. just fully possessed by the power of a dumb crush.
