No no, you gotta remember that black American Protestantism is meaningfully it's own thing. Because of several things about American history I probably don't need to explain, black churches have had a much harder time consolidating into big national-level power blocks like the Southern Baptist Convention.

Because of this, traditionally black protestant churches were often much more reliant on their flock for support, and in turn become much larger fixtures in their community, both culturally and economically; it's a free place to hang out.

Culture happens where people hang out. And in soil of culture, the flower of swag will bloom.
