Spoilers for the ROTTMNT Movie and Season 2 if ya’ll haven’t watched one or the other yet!

Was rewatching Season 2 EP 13B, “Rise” again cause apparently I skipped one of the episodes before it, and I just noticed something that I’m not sure anyone else has noticed.

(Sorry for the crap looking picture, Wi-Fi isn’t my strong suit)

Is that a dead Kraang? I’m pretty sure that’s a dead Kraang. In the hidden city…

This actually explains something that weirded me out in the movie, which was when the leader(?) Kraang sealed the turtles’ Hamato powers. How did he do that? Why make him do that? Besides the whole plot thing, of course, but why give them that ability? I looked at it a bit and didn’t see any explanation besides, “this will start up the end of the movie” and I left it at that. But “Rise” gives an explanation I didn’t expect to find, especially since the show was “paused” for a near two years after the episode aired.

But The Shredder is using the “Empirium(?)” from a dead Kraang to extract the Hamato powers from Splinter! This not only shows that the Kraang were attacking the humans, as we know and saw in the Movie, but they also assaulted the Ancient City and it’s people.

Not just the surface.

So it very much makes sense why we didn’t see any Yōkai, (that is what they’re all called there right?) in the future with Leo and Casey! Because they were probably all fighting for their home or had already been wiped out while fighting. We never did get to see what had happened to the ancient city in the future. What happened to Sunita? Or Señor Hueso and his establishment?

This also explains why it just sealed the powers, and why the Turtle were able to break the seal! Because that’s all it does. It seals the power off from the being wielding said powers. The chains used to bind Splinter’s Spirit was all Shredder. I’m also pretty sure that the chalk circle was to reverse engineer the “Empirium” since you’d figure it would’ve been smarter to just remove the powers instead of having the even slight possibility of the seal breaking. The Kraang leader isn’t stupid, nor was he ran by emotions when he sealed their powers.

So that literally means that the Foot Clan somehow managed to reverse engineer the Kraang liquid(?) to do such things in the past. Also where did the Foot Clan even get it? Like, how did they just conveniently have just a vial of it? Did the Kraang give it to their clan and it was passed down through the leaders hands? Did the Kraang even know about the Shredder, did they say something about him that I missed or no? The Foot Clan worships both right? Do they worship all the big enemies that’ll come and destroy the world?

Anyways! I figured I’d post about it cause I haven’t seen or heard anyone talk about this yet, and this shocked me to my bones tbh. I never expected for it the end of S2 and the Movie to link up so smoothly after hearing about how it was “paused” and for how long it was. Of course, I don’t make shows or movies so maybe I should’ve expected it, but eh. I’ll burn that bridge when I cross it. Also, don’t hesitate to call me stupid if this was just heavily implied and I just missed the email about it.

So we know Splinter's Rat Flu affects the turtles just the same, right? Because Leo gets obsessed with giving Raph-a-doodle a hug.

But Donnie doesn't like hugs. Even when sick. So instead he just...leans. Like, lets his weight give out and puts his head on his brothers' shoulders, being a sad sick lil' turt. You know he's really feeling bad when you go to move away and he just whines at you.

Except for Mikey. We LOO0VE Mikey. With him, Donnie follows him around, giving him rapid-fire pets on the head, squeezing his cheeks and cooing "just a beby...he just a bebeeee!" like that one meme. It's the only time Mikey hates his brother being affectionate - especially because it guarantees he'll get sick too.

Okay, so here’s the thing: Leo has to die last.

Splinters goes first. He’s an old man, graying and while he’s the best ninja—he’s too slow. They aren’t fast enough, and Splinter dies. He wouldn’t be able to handle losing four sons, he couldn’t.

Raph goes second, protecting them. There is no mercy, there is no kraangification—he’d just be liability. The sister kills him before Mikey can scream. Raph’s always had separation anxiety, if he’s alone Leo can’t imagine how Savage Raph would handle the place, he reasons.

So the leadership settles on Leo’s shoulders. Donnie and Mikey are too angry, too upset. They don’t think straight—and Leo knows that. He understands that anger.

It’s been burning inside him since he realized that this was his fault. Leo takes the position, and they go back for their brother’s shell and mask. The only things left.

Mikey unlocks something, his mystic power returns. Leo’s and Donnie’s stay locked away. Leo gives him to Draxum to train; and Leo knows he’ll be safer than he is with a resistance.

Cassandra goes third, begging Leo to take care of a baby that doesn’t understand the word he’s been born into. He doesn’t have a name yet—being on the run can do that. Donnie names him Casey. It’s better that Cassandra doesn’t see what the world turns her son into, Leo thinks.

It sticks.

Donnie goes fourth, in a surprise attack and Leo feels him die. They’re twins but they’re not, but they’ve been together forever. Donnie hasn’t slept in years. He can finally rest, and not spent months in a lab worried about keeping everyone safe. It’s better.

Mikey is not around, but Leo sends him a message.

He shows up an hour later. Eyes rimmed red, and Leo is holding six-year-old Casey Jones in a death grip. Mikey has to pry him out of Leo’s hands, and they hug. Mikey cries, and Leo has to keep himself from breaking.

The entire world is on his shoulders, and he can’t fall apart because they’ve lost someone. They lose people everyday. April is already frazzled, and Leo sees the familiar edge of anger in her eyes.

He also sees it in Casey’s.

Leo wraps his brother’s bandanas around his sword handle. Mikey watches. The world is counting on him.

And he can’t fail them.

April goes fifth. After long years of waiting, and waiting and Leo watching Commander O’Neil take the place of April, she finally falls. She dies fighting a resistance that Leo leads. She dies fighting a monster Leo brought. Casey is with him, Leo is hurt, but Casey is okay.

Thank god Casey is okay.

And then, Mikey goes creating a portal to keep Casey safe. And Mikey looks back, he winks at Casey but Leo can see the scared look he has when he turns. But Mikey can’t be last. Leo can’t leave his baby brother alone, in a wasteland. Trying to rebuilt a resistance that can’t win.

Mikey can at least see their brothers. And Leo will do what he promised Cassandra: he’ll protect Casey.

And he tosses Casey into the portal, while he fights the dogs sent. He doesn’t know if he’ll survive this, but if he doesn’t—well. He’s got a family waiting on the other side doesn’t he?

(Leo survives. Figures he would. He mourns his little brother’s passing and even finds ripped pieces of his mask. He threads it between Donnie’s and Raph’s.

And, all alone in a cave, Leo breaks.)
