Lau Pa Sat Live Band's Sound Engineer
This is a weekly solo gig, where 2-piece bands will come and perform for 2 sets of 45 minutes at Lau Pa Sat. I help to set up the monitor speaker, 2 vocals and either a keyboard or guitar. I also do the mix for them and ensure it sounds good in all the zones at the food centre.

Arranging for a string quartet
Referring to an already existing cover of a mash up of songs (Perfect, You are the Reason, 1000 Years) by ShiLi and Adi, I was tasked to arrange an accompaniment for a string quartet for their use in future.

Filming
Music Video & Audio Recording @ Horus Studios
At the early hours of 5am, I was at Horus Studios preparing the lighting and cameras for an NDP Tchoukball Music Video recording with Minister Edwin Tong and the Tchoukball Association of Singapore. I got to observe the sound engineer, Leonard Fong, who have worked with artists like JJ Lin, work in the recording room. I also worked with artists Shi Li & Adi, assisting them with whatever they needed. For the most part, I was in charge of the roaming camera, taking close-up shots and filming the behind-the-scenes.
Filming for Keppel @ Keppel Bay Tower (A Day in the Life of an Investment Analyst)
I was involved in creating the storyboard for a 6 minute explainer video, advertising Duet AI and Alpha AI. Following a pre-made script, I planned the shots and setting for the whole video.

During the shoot itself, I was the location sound recordist, using the Rode Go 2 and Zoom H4n to record. As I was unfamiliar with the talents, I made sure to go through every step that I was doing while miking them up so as to make them comfortable. Some challenges I faced was due to it being shot in a public setting, I had to deal with external disturbances from the office workers. There were also shots who had to be shot in an evening setting but we only had the venue in the day. We had to be creative to block out any light sources and create our own environment.

Video Editing
Using software like Adobe Premiere Pro and Capcut, I learnt how to do video editing and subtitling.
Projects:
Chartered Secretaries Institute of Singapore Conference 2024
It was a 5 hour conference, and I edited the video with different angles, capturing the close-ups at the right moments. I also did a highlights video capturing the essence of the conference. Some problems i faced was that the audio recording was not the cleanest and I had to use Izotope to clean the audio to the best of my ability and blend it with the original.
NDP promotional video for Northwest Celebrations
I produced reels for Instagram and Facebook which was posted on multiple Northwest CC social media pages, and designed interactive posts such as games and shoutouts to advertise the event.

Band Manager
As ShiLi & Adi's Band Manager, I followed them for gigs, one in particular being the NTUCxNDP Bay celebrations @ the Promontory. There, I worked with external vendors like Show Productions. I also worked with external sound engineers to record the band.

Birthday Dinners
There were also events with bigger band setups like Birthday Dinners, and this one in particular had a Minister of Parliament present. We had a 4 piece band setup, and used the Midas board.
I was also the Event coordinator and stage hand, in charge of liaising with the other event organisers to ensure everything ran smoothly.
We managed to successfully engage the guests, they even wanted more from the band and we had to extend our set lists.

Corporate Events
For bigger events like these, we used boards like Midas and wireless mic systems.
Luxury Group Marriott International Networking Dinner Event @ The Ritz Carlton
This was my first event being a stagehand, and I learnt how to look out for the band as there were drunk guests and people that wanted to sing on stage as well. I also got to try out mixing the band and familiarising myself with the soundboard.
Chartered Secretaries Institute of Singapore Conference 2024 @ The Ritz Carlton
I was involved in setting up the AV system and doing the tech rider. I had to triple up as a stagehand, stage manager and usher during the event as there was a lack of manpower. This trained my focus and multi-tasking as I had to look out for the emcee, keep track of time, usher the multiple speakers that were going up, look out for the sound, and assist the event coordinator when she needed help.
NHCS Dinner & Dance 2024 @ Suntec Convention Centre
I was the stagehand for this event, and was in charge of handling the mic movements and any props that were needed to be brought on stage, and shifting the band up and down stage. The event went smoothly.
Sapphire Windows 25th Anniversary Celebration @ Sapphire Windows HQ
Merry Bees were in charge of executing this event, and we had to setup the stage, sound and lights from scratch. I was the stage manager for this event, and had to oversee the different segments, assist the emcee and help with any stage movement. There were some hiccups as the emcee forgot certain parts of the script and one segment was excluded. We managed to solve this by communicating with the bosses and shifted the segment to the end.

Weddings
The first few events I was involved in were weddings, where I assisted in setting up the sound system which consists of 2 FOH speakers, 1 monitor speaker, 1 keyboard, 2 vocals, 2 SPDs, 1 Kick drum and the soundboard. For small events like Weddings, we used smaller soundboards like the Yamaha CL and the DM3 Touchmix. I also assisted in sound checking the band, mixing during the set, and taking care of the band's needs (eg Getting them food, water, finding out their resting areas, etc) During these events, I learnt how to liaise with wedding planners, build relationships with the waiters in case I need their assistance, and plan where to place our sound system.

Being an Intern at Merry Bees
Some roles I was involved in: Band manager, production crew, post-production editor, stagehand, show caller, artiste liaison, A1 and A2.
During my time here, I was exposed to many different roles not just related to sound and music, but also things like hospitality, video editing, videography, coordinating events. I learnt many interpersonal and transferrable skills, and was exposed to how production and live sound was like in the industry. Though it was physically and mentally draining at times, it was very fulfilling when we saw an event through to completion as a team. We faced many challenges along the way, but the people here are team players and problem solvers which made it easy to find solutions. I also attended meetings with clients, suggest sound systems and arranged and planned for events.
