We often forget that we are nature. Nature is not something separate from us: So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature, we have lost our connection to ourselves!" Andy Goldsworthy #art #nature #consciousness

“...Be good, Do good, Be kind, Be compassionate.” - Swami Sivananda Wattle that most benevolent of trees. Expresses joy and says yes to life. “Wattle Is A Season In Landscape 303” Oil on canvas 305mm x 305mm ... Wattle, the floral emblem of Australia is not so much a species, a blossom or a tree. Wattle is a season in landscape. A season of healing, a golden rainbow that follows disturbance. A parade of seed, of sunshine captured, and of belief. The original party starter, the pioneer. In ecology the way to heal a broken ecosystem is to connect it to more of itself. In other word connection heals. When we humans (also part of nature) become broken we need to feel connection. The Coolamon is a tree that in her own time radiates fullness, sweetness and expression. Just like the divine feminine she’s radiant, charming and brimming with life. The Coolamon is our tree, a Byron tree, a Northern Rivers tree. A reminder that connection to country nurtures. The Coolamon was the subject of my 2018 exhibition #TheFourInvitationsOfSyzygiumMoorei ... The Four Invitations Of Syzygium Moorei is a series of paintings about the Coolamon Tree (Syzygium Moorei) and it’s profoundly feminine presence in our #byronbay landscape. The Coolamon Tree (Syzygium Moorei) is also know by the names Rose Apple, Robby, Durobby, Watermelon Tree, Coolamon Rose Apple. The species is a heavenly reminder of the beauty and wonder of this world and particularly of the country around Byron Bay. This tree is endemic to the area from Mudgeeraba to the Richmond River. It belongs in this country and may offer some gifts and guidance on how to thrive in this place. #australianlandscapepainting #abstractlandscape #australianartist (at Byron Bay, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/COtGxqbhJGM/?igshid=aje1ii9zambv

”The beauty of the natural world lies in the details.” — Natalie Angier And the details of the Coolamon Tree are full of beauty. It’s the shadows that bind #Bangalow forest to horizons and stream lines. A blue blue shadow because the foliage is thick and dense. In a Eucalypt forest, the harsh Australian light penetrates. Blazing past leaves, through the canopy and scorching the earth. Shadows dance lightly across the ground. Not here in our subtropical forest, the foliage will not yield. The sun never makes it through, shadows weld the forest to the green earth. #watercolour study Season 2 / Post 4 #TheBangalowSongCycles is a body of work that documents the journey of connection and creation of place and the palm that shares it’s name.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •••⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A cycle of songs 26 million years in the making, are rendered in drawings, watercolour and oil paint.⠀⠀⠀ ••• I recognise and pay respect the traditional custodians past and present of Bangalow, and the country I live, walk and paint on. #australianlandscapepainting #abstractlandscape #australianartist (at Bangalow, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/COYhpIjB9RP/?igshid=133so95cxnrav

The #Bangalow Palm and the village of Bangalow share more than a name. They share an ancient song, a vibration. Before we are named they have had a rhythm, cycles. We see the rhythms today ova and ova. In the particular we see the universal. In the macro we see the meta. The rounded hills, meandering creek lines dotted with foliage are reminiscent of the inflorescence of the palm. The distant “puffs” of trees on the hill lines with their hard blue shadows like green nuts from the palm strewn by the hands of Bangalow children. The over all effect is that we are surrounded by life, teaming life. By fertility, by green, by the spectrum of the flowering cycle of the palm. By Dylan Thomas’s “Green Fuse”. sketchbook study using #watercolour & #ink Season 2 / Post 3 #TheBangalowSongCycles is a body of work that documents the journey of connection and creation of place and the palm that shares it’s name.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •••⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A cycle of songs 26 million years in the making, are rendered in drawings, watercolour and oil paint.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #australianlandscapepainting #abstractlandscape #australianartist (at Bangalow, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/CK1331WDtyf/?igshid=1i6cbo9hvkc5e

#Bangalow was known as “Byron Creek” to early European settlers. Until the railway line to approached from Lismore. It was then named Bangalow to befit the contemporary settlement the new railway promised to bring. Perhaps it was pure luck that the village shared its name with the Bangalow Palm. A species that naturally exhibits the qualities of its environment. #sketchbook study using powdered graphite & gum arabic ••• Season 2 / Post 2 #TheBangalowSongCycles is a body of work that documents the journey of connection and creation of place and the palm that shares it’s name.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •••⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A cycle of songs 26 million years in the making, are rendered in drawings, watercolour and oil paint.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #australianlandscapepainting #abstractlandscape #australianartist (at Bangalow 2479) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKzTl2vjb0M/?igshid=g29afmwfh937
