First time

There’s always a first time for everything. Today was the first time that I actually questioned if I wanted to do dentistry for the rest of my life. Clinic and requirements have me extremely stressed and today I reached my threshold. People keep reminding me that real dentistry isn't like dental school clinic, and that literally is the only thing that is keeping me going.

I just started working on my last FAFSA application EVER!!!!! CRAP!!!! I’m not ready for the real world!!! Someone make time STOP!..... perhaps my reaction to this is a sign that I should specialize!!??

How did we get here!!

Today in clinic I extracted 6 teeth in 3 different arches and did an alveoloplasty on 2 of those arches. I also got to suture for the first time!! I’m starting to feel like a real doctor!!!

No one in this world would have wanted to be part or your accomplishments like I did. I helped you get to where you are now and the fact that I couldn't share your initiation into your profession has been one of the hardest things for me. I really do hope that one day you realize that you had the most supportive person by your side and that i only wanted to see you grow....but life is hard but it moves on.

Something i’ve been thinking about lately.

Ever since I could remember I always had a plan for everything. My plans didn't always turn out the way I wanted but I always had a plan for my future. When people would ask me what or where I would go after high school I had an answer for that. During college, when I was asked what I would do after i graduate I had an answer for that too. During the first 2 years of dental school, i had an idea of what I wanted to do with my life. It wasn't an exact plan but it was an idea that i would work around. However, now that I’m starting my 3rd year of dental school and people are getting ready to apply for residencies, I get asked what I plan on doing after dental school and for the first time EVER I don't have an answer!!!! I have no idea where and what I will end up doing and that scares me terribly! Life gives you twists and turns, some that are hard to deal with, but I guess i really have to learn to embrace the “it’s okay to not have all the answers” phrase.

I want to congratulate this humble, smart, loving, and ridiculously handsome man for receiving his first medical school acceptances!!!! Hard work pays off and I have no doubt that you'll be a great physician!!
