that means a lot — really, it does, especially from someone like alice. but for some reason, instead of a thank you, or a you too, or even just a bashful smile, her first reaction is : mina laughs, bright and genuine, and tilts her head to the side, bouncing her temple lightly against alice's shoulder. she looks up at her, hair tumbling across both of their shoulders. ❛ do you know how many people would totally kill to know that you said that? ❜

she's not quite sure how this has happened, or why — considering it's been a few years since alice has even shown interest in releasing music — but social media ( and some reporters, for some reason ) has developed quite the fixation on the two of them lately. are they best friends? enemies? do they hate each other? does alice think she's replaced her? does amina think she's better than her? are they copying each other? oh, the drama!

she doesn't really get it. she doesn't even think their music sounds all that similar. or their work, in general, especially considering how young alice was during the majority of her music career. they just, like ... both have long brown hair. or that's their running theory, at least. alice doesn't seem to get it either, and, thankfully, definitely has no intention of perpetuating any of this, which she likes about her. she likes alice a lot.

she giggles again, nose scrunching in amusement. ❛ too bad for them, ❜ mina says, and then her expression softens as she rests her chin against alice's shoulder. her lips curve thoughtfully, something fond slipping into her tone. ❛ thanks, though. it means a lot. ❜ it took a while to get here, she doesn't say, because she doesn't have to, because she knows alice knows. ❛ i know i don't have to say you too, but i'm gonna, 'cause it's true. i reread echo chamber on the plane the other day, and it was just as good as the first time. maybe even better. ❜

@glimoon sent: i didn't really appreciate what it was that i had. / accepting.

she's silent at first, fingers threading gently through glimmer's hair. the brush sits, discarded, on her lap, as she opts to smooth the rest of her hair down with her hand. once it's appropriately ... queen-like, mina pulls away, and glances down at the glitters left against the tips of her fingers. watches how they still sparkle in the sunlight streaming in through the window, despite how much glimmer herself seems to have dimmed lately. with a soft hum, she leans closer, lips pressing softly against the crown of her head.

❛ i know. it's hard. and it's not fair. ❜

she knows it's not quite the same, really, when you compare the two of them. amina and her parents never had the same — tumultuous relationship that glimmer and angella seemed to always have, and what she knows must be weighing heavy on glimmer's shoulders now. but it's not quite different, either, is it? her parents may have lacked angella's immortality, but she'd never thought they'd be gone as early as they were, as suddenly as it happened. and she misses them, but ... the memories have started to crumble under her fingers already. she wishes she could remember better. wishes she could have somehow known, back then, and willed her younger self to commit more of them to memory, so she wouldn't just be left with pieces now.

( already, sometimes, she can't quite remember the sound of her mother's voice. she hopes it takes a long time for that to happen to glimmer. )

❛ it's not like you could've known, ❜ she continues, voice soft. angella was never supposed to be gone in the first place. how could she have been prepared for something that was never meant to happen at all? mina shifts, glittering fingers brushing against the side of glimmer's arm as she tucks her closer against her side, rests her head against her shoulder . ❛ you can't be cruel to yourself for that. shouldn't be. and i think — ❜ and she hesitates, just for a moment, before a sad smile ghosts across her face. she thinks of the portraits in the halls of castle bright moon, of the angelic founders of bright moon who, like angella, must have never meant to be gone, but somehow were. when she speaks again, her voice is quiet. ❛ she won't hold it against you. i think she understands. ❜
